Conference Realignment (Part 2) 🗺

SMU like Tulane is fortunate to both have some of their large dollar donors who are not only very active for the school but also are very successful in the Sports business.

They can provide vision and strategy, hence the SMU offer to the ACC.

clt would not give $.01 to cover our costs to get into the acc. smu is foolish if they move forward.

FWIW, Notre Dame is actually a member of the Big Ten - in men’s hockey. :ice_hockey:

No revenue for 5-7 years for SMU?

Adding CaliStan?

Notre Dame pushing for the ACC to do this but won’t join themselves?

This is madness.

The whole ACC landscape may be different in 2 months and SMU will sign up to no revenue for 5 to 7 years. That has to be fake news.

I’m dubious on getting Cal or Stanford, but if Aresco can sell a multi-year westward expansion plan for the AAC, I think OSU and WSU are feasible.

Again, get SDSU, Boise, and 2 of UNLV, Colorado St & AF later, and that’s a damn fine super league. Easily the 5th best in the CFB landscape.

Sources within the AAC indicated they’d be interested in adding two of the Pac-12 schools just as much as all four of them. The AAC believes all four schools would add value. The conference also believes it could provide value to the four Pac-12 schools, as well.

The AAC’s current television deal is a big reason why. The AAC signed a 12-year, $1 billion TV deal with ESPN back in 2019. The conference distributed an average of over $8.3 million to its 11 all-member schools in 2022, according to tax records. The Mountain West Conference distributes around $4 million annually, according to multiple reports.

ESPN could also assist the AAC financially in the acquisition of new members, according to people familiar with the AAC’s expansion efforts. It’s something that happened when the AAC added six schools from Conference USA for this season.

clt asks if we are going to be in a conference with stanford and berkeley?

Isn’t he part of that leadership group?

Yep, since 2018. AD at FAU before that and an assistant AD at Ohio State prior to that. Being mentioned as a possible successor to Gene Smith at the latter.

clt says 10 years ago, we were in the fcs. now we are in serious discussions to be in a conference with stanford. we are moving up like a :rocket:
