I will say though this does eliminate any possibility of a PAC rebuild so the doomsday scenario for us (PAC rebuild) is off the table for now. If the AAC adds Army, Oregon St/Washington St with an eye toward going after the MWC in a couple of years, or sits pat it will still be an excellent situation for us.
SMU has money, schools like us donât. Texas oil money goes a long way. And whoever said it is right, their end game was to get into the ACC which they did.
All this is crazy and has to settle at some point.
We are in the best postiion we could have hoped for at this point.
Maybe for once Charlotte will end up a winner when the smoke settles.
We are due some good luck.
According to Hill this week, the ACC taking those 3 is the best scenario
for us and he has a lot of faith in Aresco.
A Girl others called a whore I called a damn good sport. Itâs all about perspective, everythingâs relativeâŠ.
I think the approach SMU took is, how many more opportunities will there be, itâs now or never. I mean I agree with you, that I would have come to the table with a higher offer as a starting point. But maybe they thought, if we go in with a certain $ amount, that a Baylor or TCU would come in and try to negotiate too.

Sounds like no PAC2 or MWC teams.
Sounds to me like the States have accepted their fate and plan to Mountain West it.
I donât agree with the NCSU, VT, USC or Maryland assessments. I think VT and NCSU are in prime position for another potential SEC expansion. And who would the B10 replace Maryland with?
I get the regional theory and prefer it as well. But until you get a Texas, Florida, Ohio State, Penn St, ND, UCLA, etc, to lead that change, itâs all rhetoric and not relative to whatâs actually happening.
The super league isnât going to be that big. Kinda been over my reasoning for that several times on this thread alone.
Back to todayâs news, if OSU and WSU go to the MWC as it seems can only be the case, then that undermines the AACâs position as the best of the rest / last CFP autobid. And the MWC commish is sharp. I have listened to a couple of media types interview her. She is no Judy McLeod. Do not underestimate her. She used to be the Deputy Commish for the PAC (and they probably should have promoted her instead of hiring GK). She will be a very formidable foe for Aresco and the AAC.
So who meets that criteria? Off the top of my head
Army-Theyâre by far and away the best candidate but have always refused
Liberty-They have resources that are unmatched. There is a GoR but they can pay their way out I would imagine. If performance matters their football team wins.
Texas St-Donât like it but if you want 4 in Texas thatâs your best bet
SBC Schools? Those didnât have the budget last time.
UMASS-Hard no
Sounds like we are adding one though.
- army
- buffalo
- no one
clt asks who should we add?
Marshall, JMU or Coastal if we can get âem.
UNC-Chapel Hill never passes up an opportunity to make sanctimonious statements about academics.
They vetoed West Virginia joining the ACC when the Big East was breaking up because they thought WVUâs academics were substandard. Then Maryland left the ACC and the ACC had to replace them with Louisville. Around the same time, UNCâs academic scandal was being revealed.
The minor sports athletes UNC-CH is worried about will make one trip to the west coast every other year. They can play Cal and Stanford on the same trip and those schools can visit Chapel Hill the next year.
With WVU the academic institution currently in very serious financial straits, looks like not adding them was probably a good thing. Ironically, the Mountaineers were considered for ACC membership back in the 1950s, but UVA ended up getting the then 8th and final spot over WVU and Va Tech.
clt says hill is correct. this is good news for us. go get army or buffalo if we want
I am not feeling Buffalo at all, sorry @ghostofclt
Yea Buffalo is like Fetch haha
