Conference Realignment (Part 2) 🗺

Advocates of the AAC are now turning against the Conference.

clt says buffalo has

aau status
1B endowment
32k students

clt says this looks like the aac profile

norm and victor e bull will fight immediately

Only Chapass Hole can make FSU look classy.

A rebuilt PAC was a concern with Cal and Stanford or maybe even with just Cal. With both of them gone I don’t see Oregon St and Washington St somehow convincing 6 AAC teams to leave. Just not happening.

OSU and WSU just got painted into a box. This stuff is funny and someone should make a movie out of it.

Sure all fans want to be UGA or bama - but winning records and making a bowl beats having a 1 or 2 win season and it keeps those fans believing. If we head for the mega conference of 30 or some teams those are some current top 25 programs that then become the bottom feeders assuming the rest of us lock them out of scheduling.

The dynamic is in the NFL the teams are all invested in the best of the league. In college sports each school is worried first and foremost about themselves, not the conference or the good of the sport. No current power players are going to do anything that benefits other program and at the end of the day students, fans and boosters are carrying weight.

As far as going down - once that super league is built with basically the best of the SEC and the best of the B10 we will see how that works for them. I just don’t see graduates of other programs caring or following those teams - which means the rest of us will be playing something closer to what made people love college sports in the first place. That will impact ratings and media money and sponsor money. I can certainly see a time where one of those brands see there might be more money and opportunity to move out of the super league into one of the leagues that were left out. There will still be strong brands left out there and likely geographic conferences that make sense.

We probably have to get through to the end of GoR in ACC and the first TV contract for the super league. Throw in the prospect of making players employees student fees and school funding of something like the super league and all of the other stuff - who knows where it all lands.

All I know is no one would have guessed we would be where we are now and if this is going to follow business - then its always about consolidation and then breaking apart and if the schools all continue to prioritize themselves over conferences or the game itself then this is never going to stop. Grass will always be greener somewhere else.

Anyone heard why Aresco is not looking at trying to add OSU and WSU? That seems odd.

I’m curious if he’s holding out for next big movement with ACC departures and the league falling apart and wanting to keep flexible to add those schools.

He is probably also looking at the bottom line for the other sports in the conference. The travel costs that we have discussed are a much larger issue for our conference than the other conferences acquiring west coast schools. I appreciate his geographical approach

We should just add App St and visiting teams can schedule us both because of the Tweetsie air port is for finding illegal growers and moonshiners

I find a portion of the App fans highly annoying but if they joined the conference it would be easier for us than any other school because we are a two hour bus ride away. We already play them in football and basketball regularly so I’m not 100% against the idea.

  1. ESPN apparently doesn’t need the Pacific Time Zone as badly as people thought.

  2. The States have no real TV value.

Literally just not happening. Their football is great but their remote location, lack of other sports success, and lack of research and doctorial programs are an automatic no for AAC U leaders.

They get 2 yes votes and both are in-state and solely to cover our asses.

This, I would assume ESPN didn’t want to pay unless Califord was involved.

Maybe too many Spectrum customers in Washington and Oregon

I’m thinking if aresco isn’t planning to add western teams then its likely going to be teams like umass, buffalo, army, teledo, jmu, odu, and georgia state.

Didn’t the AAC add excess schools last time in anticipation of future AAC teams leaving? My guess is no one has been added because that was the plan.

This didn’t seem to be a concern for Mike Hill as he said we are close to a major airport. That makes the Market schools that much more attractive for a larger footprint because of the smaller travel time. He said we don’t bus people long distances. We just fly commercial.
