Conference Realignment

The PAC is still broke with no media deal. They were no where near close enough on the last offer to grab those schools.

Iā€™d like to be as ā€œbrokeā€ as the Pac-12 is!

That proposal, while awful for basketball, is a lot better than what we are doing right now for all sports.

Yeah I figured NMSU fans are probably in the anger phase right now.

The PAC has been turned down by Tulane, USF, Memphis, UTSA, UNLV, and Air Force. They offered Memphis $2.5 million for exit fees that cost $25 million and the ā€œpotentialā€ for $10-$15 million a year in TV revenue. The PAC still has no media deal and I donā€™t see any indication it will be $15 million a year. They currently get about $7.5 a year in the American depending on credits. Travel cost are estimated to be around $2 million extra a year as well flying out west for the PAC.

I feel like Iā€™m in bizarro world and have to question what fandome Iā€™ve decided to support. I completely agree that athletics will continue because thatā€™s what future Iā€™m trying to avoid.

I guess this falls somewhat in the Niner fans having beating dog syndrome that getā€™s mentioned on here at times. P4 schools to G5 ā€œWeā€™d like to break off, create a new division and get paid moreā€. G5 to P4 ā€œOk, please do, and do it as quick as possible. We like being relegated and left outā€. P4 to P4 ā€œgeez, that went way easier than I envisioned. Maybe we should have asked them to also pay us to leave?ā€.

Iā€™m talking about the hundreds of millions currently in the Pac-12 coffers. And that bandied about $25 million AAC fee is not correct as that applied to SMU. Houston et al paid $18 million in exit fees, which is the precedent for Memphis et al. Not chump change, of course - Pac-12 was just being ā€œcheapā€ on that.

Per the proposed House settlement, the G5 etc will be paying. And quite a lot!

Yes and we need to fight that tooth and nail and stop being scared of being left behind, because theyā€™ve already decided they are kicking us to the curb.

Thatā€™s a strong argument.

Iā€™m not scared, I dislike. Not the same thing.

Lol, good spin, but not the same. Yes, G5 is potentially paying above itā€™s share, but P4 are also paying.

The we I referred to was the athletic departments of the G5 schools. Unless you work for one?

Weā€™ve already been relegated. Before NIL and the portal I would have been fighting this all the way, but a school like us canā€™t compete at the national level of the top schools now. We arenā€™t playing the same game as Georgia and Alabama and neither are most schools.

Really depends on where the break is if it works out ok for us.
