Conference Realignment

I doubt this merger happens. There is not going to be enough money to make it worthwhile.

As noted in Fletcher’s post, this hypothetical merger is for the purposes of media valuation. There’s no actual merger on the horizon. Doesn’t mean that some AAC members don’t eventually make the jump, in spite of the “promise” to stick together.

I am not a big fan of going more than 14 teams in a league. I know a merger like this would possibly bring in more money. But, it also makes the road to winning a conference championship that much harder. Isn’t that some of our criticism of the so called “super league”? Money first, winning second.

Just want to reiterate how much I hate this.

Come on NA! You got to admit it was a little fun watching the PAC-2 teams get a reality check, with their attempts to create a P5 conference.

It’s not going to be fun when they circle back around with concrete media numbers in hand and we lose top members from the AAC. Sure, I will be happy when Memphis, Tulane and USF fans STF up and quit whining, but it won’t be good for the conference.

unfortunately this

This is a P4 + ND football break-off proposal:

Closing snippet from Dellenger’s piece posted above:

We are done. We won’t be in the 70.

Congrats to everyone who wanted this.

Time to find a new hobby.

There is a downside to all of it, says former Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby.

“It’s a zero-sum game,” he said. “You have one winner and one loser. Take the aggregate of the Big Ten. Those who have been traditional winners, some of them are going to have to lose.”

They are making the pitch to the top 30. 70 is just the starting place. I dont expect it stays there.

This latest proposal is 70. Basically P4 football breaks off and does its own thing.

The proposal is for 70 -but they made the pitch to the top 30 power schools.

“A group of investors & ex-Disney executives have met with ADs at 30 power schools with a pitch: a $9 billion infusion as part of a 70-school football league.”

If you haven’t done so yet, read the entire article. Lengthy but thorough.

Unlike the other proposal from earlier in the year that most have dismissed as DOA, this one seems to have some traction.

And it doesn’t say they met with the top 30 but so far have interacted with 30 of the 70, as well as 3 of the 4 commissioners.

One thing I can promise all of these greedy assholes:

I won’t be supporting the super league. I will just check out, and, so will my boys. They already hate the idea. If it’s going to be pro sports, they will just watch actual pro franchises in the NFL/NBA/MLS/MLB. They have zero interest in super league college football. They already talk about soccer more than CFB anyway. They mainly just watch games to humor me.

We were never going to be included in the break away nor should we be. If we’re lucky we’ll be in a more regional conference with the likes of Wake, ECU, App and a JMU or Coastal. Less travel and potentially more rivalry potential.

Guess I’m in the minority but I’m ready for them to go the hell on.

We werent making the breakaway - what we need is the break away not to be 70 schools. If its gets down to 30-40 then we are in business.

70 is too many. It kills the remainder of college football. Including us.

If we can keep it under 50 we have a chance to survive. And that chance increases dramatically every 5 or 10 fewer there are in that super league.
