Interesting tidbit about North Dakota State’s move:
Speaking of feasibility studies, Collegiate Consulting announces it assisted North Dakota State with an FBS Feasibility Study and a follow-up benchmarking analysis. The firm initially completed NDSU’s FBS Feasibility Study in 2021, examining both the Mountain West and then-American Athletic Conference, and provided benchmarking for operating budgets, staffing levels, salaries, financial aid, revenue sources and other comparables. Collegiate Consulting updated the report in 2024 with a sole focus on the Mountain West and looked at both full and football-only membership.
Either way, still better to be grouped with peers with similar resources. FCS has teams with no fans playing in high school quality stadiums.
NDSU, the montanas, and a few other fcs schools deserve better than that. The the G6 simply becomes the new fcs, at least it’ll be a tier of relatively similar resources programs. The old fcs playoffs were a fun watch before all the teams with the most resources moved to fbs.
I’m thinking the so-called Super League will follow the major professional model, which is 30 to 32 teams. Perhaps they’ll cap out at 40 but can’t see it being any more. Afterall, this is first and foremost a cash grab. Hopefully, it will be a complete breakaway from the NCAA as well.
I think you could give serious consideration to any member of the MVFC. The top has been pretty set since the addition of NDSU and to a lesser extent (my) SDSU (the blue not the red). The rest of the league has waxed and waned, with almost every team making the playoffs once in the past 10 years.
Others with consistent playoff presence include Villanova, Holy Cross, Richmond, Tarleton State, Incarnate Word, Sac St, among others.
If it’s 30-32 and it happened a year ago, there’s a very real chance Indiana would have been left out. I’m curious now how them winning the NC changes things. Also, if it’s only 30-32, I don’t see how they pull it off without some sort of relegation.
I really hope it’s not the entire P4. I’m not so sure the P4 will all stick together after the way the SEC and Big10 have been treating the ACC and Big12 during CFP negotiations the last few years. They pretty much treat them as second rate conferences so I really hope the P2 raid the last 6 or so valuable brands from those 2 conferences and leave the rest to suffer with us.
