clt says Miami is R1, they have a chance..jmu and appy, not so much.
Iād take JMU in a heartbeat. As far as R1, thatās in their short-term goals. My son is a freshman there and Iāve been totally impressed with the schoolās engagement with the kids, parents, etc. I think Iāve received more football/sports related marketing paraphernalia in the last couple of months from JMU than Iāve received from Charlotte in probably five or more years. They know that they are doing, no doubt about that.
CBS Takes Control of Turner Sports as Skydance Merger Resets College Sports, and Big 12 Expansion
USF and UConn as Big 12 Targets
The merger indirectly strengthens the Big 12ās expansion outlook. Under the Save College Sports Actās 19āteam cap and fiveāyear independent rule, USF and UConn emerge as clean, highāvalue candidates. USF offers the largest U.S. media market without a Power Four school, plus a new onācampus stadium. UConn brings elite basketball value and national brand strength. With CBS and Turner likely bidding aggressively for Big 12 rights in 2030, adding USF and UConn would increase inventory, improve market reach, and boost the leagueās media value.

Looks like they are going for it.
This is a big deal if it happens - JMU does not screw around. They will instantly be a factor in every sport in our league.

I canāt see anyone wanting USF. Iām not saying itās out of the realm of possibility but Memphis already whored themselves to get into the big 12 and they got turned down. I canāt see the big 12 doing an about face for usf when they already have ucf in the league anyway.
USF is in a good location and has the academic profile that would be attractive to P4 conferences. That said the Big 12 already has UCF in Florida. As long as Florida State and Miami are in the ACC I donāt see them happy about more competition in state. Bit of a stretch for the Big Ten.
Memphis getting shut out has me convinced no one from the American is getting into the Big 12 unless they have to backfill. Ditto the ACC.
With Clemson, FSU, Miami-FL, and UNC-CH leading the charge to further dilute the realignment provisions in the PCSA, ACC is most likely to be the P4 looking to backfill.
Good move adding a quality JMU and being pro active. ACC will definitely have to backfill eventually.
Itās a damn shame we suck so bad in the two revenue sports. When CHeat leaves we would have been an attractive option if we were good at both.
Tulane would seem like a slam dunk ACC backfill, as they fit in academically and close enough culturally⦠But Tulane basketball and their arena is looked upon by ACC fans similar to how we look at UTSA and their basketball arena. Itās not a fit.
USF is probably as good of a replacement for FSU as theyāre going to find though.
Memphis being shut out of the Big 12 after offering all of that money means they arenāt going anywhere.
I donāt see USF going anywhere unless itās a backfill of a P4.
And thatās not on the horizon right now so this news is vapor.
Jim Williams is a huge USF fan and can be a little overly optimistic in coverage of the program (he has some good content though). I donāt think UCONN basketball leaves the Big East (been there done that) and failing that the Big XII would have to either add Memphis or lose someone for USF to get the golden ticket.
Based on what Iām hearing about CFP expansion and how the networks are going to have to pony up a lot more money for that to happen (if it happens) I donāt think there is any world where any P4 adding teams increases their revenue.
And that is the only reason to add other than to backfill.
And if there is no reason to expand then there is no reason to backfill.
I think Memphis and USF are stuck.
And if there were opportunities out there, Iām sure Boise State, Wash State, OR State, San Diego State, UCONN and UNLV would be in the mix.
Again with the faux ignorant use of the UNC-Charlotte to get a dig at us. Pathetic.
