Tulane bball not good. They have talked about building a new arena at the site of current one, if they needed to.
Smoothie King NBA arena is only a couple miles away from main campus and few blocks from Med school and downtown campus they are investing in.
ABA team the Buccaneers played on the Tulane campus at Devlin. One of the years they were there, Tulane hosted one of their Super Bowls. Crazy to think of that happening on a college campus these days.
One other thing to watch: In 2025, the American updated its bylaws to mandate that members spend at least $10 million on their athletics rosters over a three-year period. While most are already well above that (and Army and Navy are exempt), the bylaws dictate that any that are not could have their membership reviewed and booted by the league. Some schools in the league want to raise that threshold, too, according to people briefed on the conversations.
Iāve noticed this get brought up by some of the haters that this is getting added to get rid of some of the bottom programs in the American. However its not like a lot of G5 programs like marshall and app state could afford the numbers that the American is going to demand going forward. I think only Miami OH, Liberty, and ODU could really do it outside of the American and current PAC schools.
One of those teams is ECU, who, despite how putrid we have been in football, at least currently has a losing record against us. I expect that to even out this year, but still. The trash talking in social media gets legs because people spout off without knowing the facts.
It comes with the territory. Believe me when we had three back to back to back 3-9 seasons under Scottie Montgomery other fan bases were saying the same things about us and deservedly so. Championships in non revenue sports are cool, but would you be able to tell me which ships you won? Iām not diminishing the accomplishments of those athletes but at the end of the day athletic programs are judged on two sports entirely. Football is the biggest driver followed by menās basketball. You guys will turn it around eventually even if it means you have to can Albin at years end and when you do turn it around the trolls will slink back into the abyss and find a new team to troll instead.
I think my IQ dropped two points reading that article. Either itās a joke that didnāt land or he has no idea about anything outside of the P2 conferences.
I would, but Iām a true fanatic. My only quibble is that our basketball hasnāt been up to our 90s and 00s level, but it hasnāt been nearly the mess football has been. Weāve actually been okay a few seasons and as a group we are very optimistic about this season. More than we have been in quite some time.
Iāll specifically mention menās soccer, which is one of the most consistently excellent programs in the country for decades now. I realize it doesnāt move the needle, but it deserves some respect.
I love this guy over on CSNBBS who keeps saying weāre getting booted for non-compliance and then runs when asked how weāre non-compliant. 99% of the internet social media is just folks personal fantasies.
Great example of expansion, they joined the ACC and then they continued to add value. Will be only D1 Lax school in Texas!, hard to believe. They raised $15m to do it, took advantage of the available opportunity and to grow their notoriety & value in the conference.
To add to the story: rumor has it they are trying to hire last years national championship Coach from Princeton. They are serious..
Other than the upfront money Iām not sure what Miami really offers the AC.
I donāt like to throw stones because we are a boat anchor in the two revenue sports, but I donāt really want the conference to add another us.
Unpopular opinion but Iād rather have Liberty than Miami. They invest heavily plus i feel like itās good for every conference to have a team to hate.
We are in one of the only schools in NC that increased in enrollment for this year while other decline which is going to happen for the next several years
