Very speculative - but equals some rumblings I keep hearing.
If the Big East dissolves and the members raid the A10 to form the Catholic Basketball Conference, this is the result I’d hope for:

Louisiana Tech
By my estimation, probably the 5th best football conference, the 6th best basketball conference (after the newly founded Catholic Basketball Conference), and probably the 3rd or 4th best baseball conference. Also solid in soccer, women’s hoops, golf, etc. Geographically makes sense; institution profiles make sense. Because it makes so much sense, it will not happen…but this would be the most ideal possible situation for everyone involved.

According to some fool on CUSABBS the 4 CUSA defectors are coming back; and that to get rid of the 6 new invitees the conference will disband (giving up ALL the automatic NCAA bids for at least 3 years). I guess he doesn’t know what kind of shitstorm of a lawsuit that will yield.
Lol, it’s funny you mention that. I have contemplated on multiple occasions on just how to break the unfortunate news to him that he is actually sniffing too much glue and that will never happen, but I figured reality setting in, would do more damage than anything I could say.
I the only way I see this shaking out negatively for us is if somehow ECU gets the call up to the Big East and we don’t. That being said, with all the money on the table, the Big East has shown time and again that they will take market, money, and revenue potential over a proven product outside of a major market. If everything blows up and conferences are completely redrafted, I think we get multiple options. If a couple more defect from the Big East and they refill, I still feel pretty good about our chances. We have old friends there and have been having back door conversations about future expansion. There is no doubt in my mind that the AD is on this. Us and ECU make a great pair in picking up overall marketshare in a continuously growing state, with a built in rivalry.
People can sleep on Charlotte like they always do, but I don’t believe there is a situation where CUSA says just kidding, we don’t want your top 25 DMA market. Our school is the very type of school that have made out the best in all of these shuffles. Large urban schools carrying large DMA’s with room to grow, that have shown a commitment to athletics, both historically and in preparation for future endeavors. Our commitment to add big time football to our repitoire makes us an interesting prospect for any conference outside the Big 5.

Next Saturday the SEC championship game obviously has major national title implications, and right now on StubHub nosebleed seats are running around $400/ticket. The ACC title game, in contrast has tickets starting at $4.50. This says a lot about the state of the ACC.
Ultimately, there are going to be 4, 16 team power conferences, and then all the others, including CUSA and the Big East. Three of the power conferences are already known - the SEC, Big 10, and Pac 10. The fight for survival is between the ACC and the Big 12, and right now the ACC is losing - badly.

unc actually won their division, but are on probation and can’t play. If they were in this game it would sell out. Just a fact, NOT an endorsement. For the sake of the city I want the game to be successful, but this year it will not be. The Belk Bowl probably won’t be too attractive either this year with the teams that look like will be in it.

There’s a possibility that the Belk Bowl will invite ECU, as the Big East did not get enough teams bowl qualified. If they can pair them against NC State then it will be a hot ticket.

Not sure it would sell out if UNCCh was in the game. I know it’s a little different but they played a bowl game a few years ago and the place was half full.
Contrary to what an employee at the O used to tell us, UNC-chapel hill football does not draw in Charlotte as well as some of the other schools in this area. Hootie is correct, as usual.
I was at that bowel game. Here is the break-down of the seating
40% WVU fans
40% UNC-CH fans
20% invisible fans
