Yes, I was agreeing with you on that and also pointing out that some of the schools had to take reduced payouts just to get in the P2. Those payouts are determined by what the networks will pay the conference for those additions.
The power conferences are paying about 23% while the NCAA national office foots 42% of the bill. The confounding part, many commissioners say, is that about 95% of the $2.77 billion in back-pay is intended to be distributed to power conference athletes.
35% being paid by G5 schools, 95% of which will go to former P5 players.
Itâs time to stop being weenies and file a class action suit against the power conferences.
So worried about them cutting us out⌠Why? Theyâre already doing it. We get one slot in the CFP. It doesnât cover the costs they are passing on to us.
Yep. They are already cutting us out a little more every day. The G5 conferences need to start looking out for themselves instead of constantly bowing down and kissing P4 ass.
We arent going to be able to compete at the top national level now. Ever. Its just ridiculous. Clearly the top programs dont give a shit about college athletics as a whole. We need to exit this shit show.
Completely agree with both of you.
Get the other 93 or so schools and form something new. We will lose a few of them to the final P2 consolidation, but there will be a bunch of Big 12 and ACC schools that will end up in there with us. They may even boot out a few of the current P2 members.
Create regional leagues for all sports to minimize travel / costs and help support rivalries and attendance. Create a two tiered promotion / relegation system and enter into a single media rights contract to ensure viability for all the programs, but also have payouts for playoff finishes. Standardize one revenue sharing rule for all players and programs and enforce it. Ban fake NIL pay to play and enforce it. Never play the P2 in anything, including basketball.
Set this up properly and revisit the health of the P2 vs the âRest of us leaguesâ in 10, 15 years, once the super conference novelty wears off. I think some will be surprised.
Agree with all of this and with the exception of the Pro/Rel I dont think its a hard sale.
I like pro/rel, just think that would find some resistance.
I think it would be a negotiation tactic to get the P4 relegation programs and the higher end G5 schools to buy in.
Let them start in the upper tier.
Also would be a tool in media negotiations, if you can promise that you can deliver more higher level matchup inventory.
Would absolutely drive ratings.
And over time would actually be based on :gasp: MERIT and not some kind of b.s. artificially propped up aristocracy.
clt says we have promotion now, but not relegation
clt says we had a top 100 year
And yet are still behind these other powerhouse schools in the âTop 100â:
Northern Arizona, Cornell, UC Irvine, South Dakota State, California Baptist, San Jose State and Arkansas State
84 spot ahead appy
This is an attempt to move the future state discussion that was happening on the 2024 basketball thread here.
So what is everyone thinking here?
Do we want to see a split off of the P4 and a new division that we can have a reasonable hope of competing for a Natty?
For me thatâs the key thing.
I donât want to play in a division that we have zero chance at winning anymore.
Iâm sick of it.
I know a lot of you will say âwe are not even competing for conference honors right nowâ and your point is taken but thatâs an execution problem in recent years. In the past we have competed for and won conference honors and we can again.
Iâm thinking big picture here.
Ready for the Big Boy split yesterday. Fuck it. Get on with it. No need to prep the country for this break with continuous stories on it till it happens. Rip the band aid Big Boys and let the unintended consequences flow!!
Ready for the 40 or so final P2 teams to GTFO and let the rest of us play regional college sports again.
It wonât be a P4. No way. Too much dead weight for that model.
Yeah it wont be P4 - those schools are trying to maximize their revenue. Keeping a school like Wake or Rutgers is just taking money out of your pocket. I am not sure were the break point is. My gut says 30ish, but maybe they go to 40 total to catch anything that is considered big brand.
Let them do their thing and let the rest of reset into something that makes sense.
No I think Rutgers will still stay in the 40 team split if it happened. its the likes of wake, miss state, and even arkansas getting kicked out in my book. they would be incompetent to out leave out programs like colorado or arizona state out in a national league in the long term
Maybe so - I was trying to find the ratings chart. That chart basically said who was in and out.
