Covid Vaccine Poll

TR, Did you happen to read the story? Ken talked about it some, but these struck me as the key points:

It isn’t that 62 people went to a wedding and their personal outcomes are on them. It’s that they infected 178 people total (including themselves), and indirectly killed 7 and hospitalized 3 more… None of which attended the wedding.

This is not an issue that breakdowns to an individual level. I understand folks who value personal freedom, but the virus doesn’t care about that or limit itself in that way.

Connected and apparently. Those are the key words for me.

6 of the 7 deaths occurred at a rest home. The person linked to the deaths continued to go to work (and was allowed to work) at the rest home despite showing symptoms.

Those 6 dying had nothing to do with the wedding. That is negligence on the rest home. A lawsuit was filed and rightly so.

But just because someone gets drunk, drives a car and kills someone don’t tell me I can’t drive. But if the threat of someone’s negligence leading to your death scares you then by all means take whatever precautions you deem necessary.

This thread is just crazy in many ways. It’s crazy that on this site it’s the trending topic. Whatever you guys do, let’s keep it in here. Let’s not let COVID or 2020/1 take out NNN.

That said, I do want to put out there that in certain cases, lifestyle change isn’t enough.

I’m named after an uncle who died of a massive heart attack the year I was born. His brother survived into his 70s because he had triple bypass surgery. My grandfather one one side died of heart attack and the other dies of massive stroke in his 50s. One of my grand mothers had massive stroke and could barely move her left extremities. My Mom had heart attack and stroke and my Dad was asked if he was having chest pain yet every physical he had. One of my brothers has already had a heart attack and they expect he will need a transplant at some point in the future.

I take care of myself, but I could eat celery and have cholesterol above 300. I’m not a big guy at all and I exercise regularly.

I have an early expiration date and got the vaccine as soon as I was allowed.

The point remains…Anyone that wants to be 100% safe can do so regardless of what anyone else does. If you want to stay safe then don’t interact with anyone. Or wait until you’re fully vaccinated and wear masks and social distance when interacting with someone.

The choice to stay 100% safe is not fun but it’s there for anyone that chooses. Nothing that anyone else does affects that.

I don’t judge anyone that chooses that path nor will I judge anyone that’s willing to do otherwise.

Mac,

You are literally one of the last people I’d expect to have such issues (If any of you haven’t met Mac before, if you do, you’ll see what I mean). It just shows that you cannot judge a book by its cover, and we rarely ever know what struggles and challenges other people are going through… Virus or not.

Glad you got the vaccine. Easy decision for anyone who has a personal health issue. The tougher thing is for people who think they’re completely healthy, but would provide a societal benefit by getting vaccinated and raising group immunity even if they (even correctly) evaluate their personal risk as low. It takes a big picture viewpoint such as the one NWA espoused previously to engage at that level.

The problem is, we don’t live in that type of isolationist bubble. Its nearly impossible to avoid all human contact. You have to eat, etc.

One of the reasons I got vaccinated is for all the people who are out there keeping the economy going. I personally benefitted from the protection (which isn’t absolute… Frustrating but there are cases coming out of vaccinated people still getting Covid) , but I also feel better about interacting with people who don’t have a choice but to go in to work and expose themselves not just to me but possibly many many more people. Our society made the decision not to fully financially support them, so many had to work. Again, not that I didn’t benefit personally, but I feel good about contributing to the herd immunity to protect them from active virus strains and prevent as many future variant strains as possible.

You’re a saint. We should all aspire.

Well many had to work because we can’t let everyone stay home. Regardless of the financial side of things.

You must be real nervous. I know I am. I agree with basic guidelines per your post as it appears the use of Executive Power is not something our Governor is afraid to use. It has to be very strict as to how to declare an emergency such as has been done during this pandemic and the guidelines on when it ends must be written so as there are no misunderstandings as to how this power is turned off.

Good Times Reaction GIF

The good thing is no one in this thread I believe called Covid fake or said masks were pointless or vaccines were dumb. We are all on the right side here just different perspectives of the right side.

  1. if Covid = Ebola, and we we bleed out when infected…then by God, lock us all down and violate all my human/constitutional rights. I am willing to lose my net worth for the “greater good”
  2. This was not Ebola, nor close but the MSM sold it
  3. Its a nasty virus that is brutal to a miniscule portion of the population
  4. it occasionally kills a healthy human under 75yr
  5. the worst hygiene areas like continent of Africa and India should of been completely devastated, did not happen
  6. the MSM cooperated, and still to this day “selling” worst case for clicks

I agree with Mac so I have made a decision and will disengage from this topic thread for the greater good of the community. :kissing_heart: USA! USA! USA!

Mac. Your family history sounds a lot like mine with cancer added in for good measure. At the doctor I always say you name it we have it in my family history so just check yes on the boxes and let’s get this going. Also good excuse for a strip club run if it starts weighing on you. We all have our coping mechanisms. Lol.

I’ll just disagree that the 6 of the 7 dying had nothing to do with the wedding. Certainly there appeared to be another failure in preventing transmission beyond the wedding. But some level of exposure is unavoidable, and frequently the people hurt are not at fault (a more common issue is transmission among people living together). As long as people are making choices that cause themselves to get infected, they raise the risk of other people being exposed who didn’t make that choice. In addition, the effects tend to compound if more and more people are taking risks. We are an interconnected society now, and even people in rural areas can not completely avoid that.

As I said above, if the outcomes of risky behavior really did only hurt people that took the risks, I’m willing to say that’s fine and does not need to be restricted (though how we pay for health care does lead to some cost coming on to everyone for risky behavior). Where we disagree seems to be the extent to which the disease transmission in this pandemic impacts people not connected to the risky behavior.

I’ll drop it here, think we have a pretty good idea of how folks think at this point.

that wedding tragedy is the worst possible example
total outlier
its like saying don’t fly because of 9-11

Yeah we just disagree.

If someone went to an NFL game, got drunk and killed a car full of people on the way home, I wouldn’t blame the NFL game. Nor would I advocate limiting attendance. Just my thought process.

I get your point, but the more accurate example would be if drunk NFL fans killed 500,000 people on their way home during a single season, would changes be made?

I agree that this is where I disagree.

I believe if you truly want to stay safe you can absolutely do so 100%. With food delivery, grocery delivery…hell, friends and family can deliver to your door step if there are no services in your area. There is curbside pickup most everywhere as well. You can literally isolate as much as you care to…but if you do need to get out in a limited capacity you can’t tell me you aren’t fully protected with a vaccine and/or masks and social distancing. If you stay 6ft away from everyone you meet and wear a mask and don’t have a 15min close contact conversation, your odds of winning the Powerball are greater…and that’s not even considering if you have taken the vaccine…and/or are maybe encountering someone that has already had the virus or taken the vaccine and is immune themselves. So it shouldn’t matter what anyone else is doing if you are isolating and then treat every limited encounter that way (masked and distanced) on your end.

Seriously…if you don’t want to get it…you can absolutely control that 100% IMO. It may not be very fun but it can be done.

I went doomsday preppers extreme for several months early on last year myself, but have since decided to live my life. But I do take all of those precautions I mentioned above when I do get out.

I just feel like there’s no need to get fired up about those being careless affecting you if you are doing your part to keep yourself safe. What others do really is irrelevant to how you control your individual exposure…while again those that do take the risks and eventually continue to spread it is very important to building up herd immunity.

Again…my opinion. But I do appreciate the civilized debate and discussion here as opposed to what our media and politicians are doing with it. That is what continues to divide everyone which I also believe is absolutely by design sadly.

I’ll drop it here too…thanks for the friendly exchange.

It would be more like if a certain subset of fans (15%) killed 500k people would you make changes for everyone or just those 15%. I would say just the 15%.
