Cox to step down as Braves manager after 2010 season

It will be interesting to see who they select as his replacement. TP and Hubbard I would think would be the top choices from within. Mazzone is also somebody tey might bring back. I'll be surprised if they go outside the "family".

I have been told from a solid source Terry Pendleton is a lock.

Good pick by me. The guy is a class act and was a big part of the Braves turnaround from NL whipping boy in 1991.

I personally would love for Grady Little to get it. I had dinner with him a few months ago and he is lying low right now traveling the country and hanging with grandkids. Grady was who took Chipper, Lopez, Avery, Blouser, and that gang from A-AAA and still knows the inner workings of the Braves. I think his down home persona would be a great fit in MLBs only southern town or either TX. He was not a LA or Boston guy and I think he wants to prove both those organizations wrong.

Is he candidate for the Astros opening?

Tell ya the truth I did not know it was open. He was raised on a cotton farm in TX so I would not be surprised if he has his agent pursue it. Getting the gig is no different than our jobs, its who you have relationships with, politics.
OK - I buy that somewhat, especially since you mentioned Helton- big #'s but overlooked. But that may be more b/c of Coors Field.

But Jeter is a stone cold stud IMO and would raise the level of many a franchise.

Since this thread is about Cox, think about how much better the Braves would have been and how many more titles they would have won if the best SS in the era was Jeter and not Blauser. Mull that one over, kinda makes you think. HMMM

Oh yeah, that would have been nice.

I saw this in the Friday edition of the USA Today, and it surprised me. Surprised me not because Jeter was on the list but because of some of the guys ahead of him. And, they’re all(except Jackson) in recent history

All time play off RBI list:

  1. Bernie Williams 80
  2. Manny Ramirez 74
  3. David Justice 63
  4. Derek Jeter 49
  5. Reggie Jackson 48
