CUSA - Perspective

No offense, that might be the most insane thing ever said hereā€¦ From AD support, to facilities, to fan support, to conference membership, to cash flowā€¦ We are behind everyone but Davidson and ECU (that job will always be bad)ā€¦ Roy winning 2 NCā€™s (methods aside) show you can get out of the shadow of a legend. Duke will be just fine.
Okay, so maybe I was on a bit of a ā€œMajor is gone highā€, but ā€œmost insane thing everā€? That is high praise indeed on this board. I have had this conversation with Jay Bilas about the post-K Duke, and this is his take on what will happen. Obviously since K gets weekly blood transfusions from puppys he will never age, his hair will never turn grey, and he will coach forever so we wil not find out. And I disagree about Roy. If there is a God his NCs will get wiped, but regardless, he has not been to the Final Four since 2009 and Heel fans expect at least that from him. Hell, in 2010 they went to the NIT. Nope, without the cheating the Tarheels have no magic. Once again they got swept by Duke. When they finally get what they deserve even Clemson will get a win in Chapel Hill. Of course the money is great, but that job will be toxic when the next coach comes in.
LOLā€¦ Perhaps I should have said , the most insane thing that hasnā€™t come out of my mouth

This, and this is also why I have more emotional investment in the basketball program than in football. I feel like with basketball there is at least some shot in the dark that we can be relevant and make a deep run into the tournament sometime in the near future. Football requires a lot more.

I think we should reach out to everyone, even people who may reject us. Hell, call Greg Marshall. We have more money, better facilities, and a better area to recruit in than a lot of schools. I donā€™t know anything about Buffaloā€™s finances or facilities, but the weather is brutal, and the city is kind of falling apart. Never underestimate intangibles like that, especially when family is involved. Didnā€™t Odomā€™s wife play a major rule in the decision to come here? Plus, Hurley is an NC name which would help in recruiting state high schools and Iā€™m sure it wouldnā€™t hurt to be closer to Durham and many of his old colleagues.

Iā€™m not saying that we are an easy choice for Hurley, if we offer the job, but I do think we have a lot of little things going for us. Yeah, CUSA sucks, but people who know basketball also understand that thereā€™s a difference between coaching at UTEP or Charlotte vs FIU or Rice.
Seen games at Alumni Arena on the campus of UB several timesā€¦ Halton is clearly a much better facility. Itā€™s larger, is a lot more aesthetically pleasing, and is way more up to date. As for the city of Buffalo vs the city of Charlotte, aside from the weather, downtown Buffalo along the water front is actually very nice. Being from western NY I have seen first hand that Buffalo is a lot better now than it was in the early 2000ā€™s. Its not on the level that Charlotte is, but it is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. From my personal experience, as I had to choose between attending UB and Charlotte, I visited Charlotte in March and it was 70 and sunny. I visited UB in April and it was 37 and raining. It wasnā€™t a hard choice after that
You must be talking about downtown on the water north of the General Mills factory because it is pretty sketchy in that area even with the new casino there. I was even told to be careful on the other side of downtown where the Anchor Bar is. The summertime weather in Buffalo is nice, however.
They have done a ton of redevelopment around the First Niagara Center and into the canal side park area. The owner of the Bills and Sabers has dumped a ton of money into the area. When I visited last fall break it was a great place to go get lunch.
