D1 hoop coach vacancies

From Jeff Goodman:

Former USC assistant Gib Arnold, who was not retained by head coach Kevin O'Neill, has been tabbed as Hawaii's head coach.

1 less opening now.
Add Houston, Tom Pender has been fired or let go (conflicting stories), either way he’s gone.
Adam Zagoria tweeted about this on the 13th, so I guess this just confirms that. Won’t be surprised to see Billy Gillispie named as Penders’ successor.

Wow, and I thought we were rough on Lutz for letting him go after a 19 win season, the guy gets fricken Houston to the dance and they can him…

Penders was gone before the season ended. The awful attendance, reliance on JUCOs, erratic conference play, etc., did him in. Just got lucky in Tulsa and won 4 in 4 days. Guess the Penders Invitational was short-lived!

Wow, I thought Penders might have saved his job by winning the CUSA tourney, but nope. Maybe, they should hit up Clyde Drexler. ;D

Metro, I know this is YOUR list, but I would definitely put UNCW up a few notches on that list. Atleast ahead of these 3:

Dartmouth
Gardner-Webb
Louisiana-Lafayette

Until they fired the AD, it may be one of the worst jobs out there.

Really hard sometimes to decipher truth from fiction. Yesterday the rumor was Pecora had been named the head coach at Fordham, only to learn that he hadn’t even met with them yet (supposedly that is happening today).

Then I read that Hewitt was flying up to New York City to interview today for the St. John’s position, only to learn that he met with the Red Storm’s AD in Atlanta last night!

And, of course, was Penders fired, did he retire, or did he resign?! ::slight_smile:

Anyway, something to think about while the rumors are circulating hot and heavy.

You can update Fordham. Filled.
