I did not say you should not be pissed. There are just more important things to be pissed about. I may be naive Normmm, but be truthful and tell me how you found out about Ms. Trotta's gaffe. Like me, you probably heard about it on this message board because you weren't lstening to the broadcast. In the grand scheme of things Ms. Trotta and Primetime with Billy Jr are irrelevant. That's my point. I just pray Bobby does something soon to make us more relevant and maybe then I would extremely pissed at a situation such as this.
I like the enthusiasim but I don’t like the focus. As always, Go Niners!
You need to completely read posts. I said the affect a sports producer can have on the general public. I’m not worried about the people on here. I know their committed. Which also means they already donate. So if we’re supposed to worry about donations, it would probably be the people who aren’t on NNN that we need to worry about. The same people who are probably listening to Packman’s show. I think the exposure in local media is very important to attendance and donations. That’s why people make a big deal about it.
I got a very classy email from Danielle. I think she regrets the whole episode. She in fact also apologized. Her dad and sister have ties to the school and she’s a fan. She actually admitted that saying, “one of my favorite things is going up to CH” sounded bad “now that she thought about it.”

She says she’s proud to be an alum and is involved in various ways.
I think in summary, she’d love to have her words back because she’s read this site and a flood of emails. She also said she had spent a day with a vice chancellor lately and knows how bad Chapel Hill screws us. I think she now realizes her error. I do. It doesn’t fix what she said but at least from here forward she will never prop UNC over UNCC again.
she is still green…24 or so? It will take here a decade of bbqs and cocktail parties and backhanded insults from peers before she fully realizes the deal.
Glad to hear this. Maybe there is hope for her after all. I hope after all this she realizes how much she can do for our alma mater in a position like hers.
On a side note:
Check out the latest episode of UNC Charlotte Alumni Today with Sarah Batista and Danielle Trotta of WBTV. I guess this is the time she spent with the vice chancellor.
You know what, I’m convinced now that I am I’m getting upset over nothing. swilson, MullinsManiac, and Savio are right. Tonight, I’m going to throw away the six hundred Niners shirts/hats/etc that i have, take down all of my 49ers framed pics, jerseys, etc off the walls, head to tarmart err walmart, gear up, and drop to my knees and start worshinging in the direction of Chapel Hill.
You people are absurd.
You don’t get it. Do you? I may be mistaken. But it seems you always criticize Niners for defending their school in these circumstances. It’s almost as if you want certain other schools receiving all the publicity.
Maybe I’m wrong, but you sound like you want all of us to jump for joy because she’s a big tarhole fan.
(triple post… board was slow… had to hit “Submit Reply” 3 times, or so I thought)
Yes. '97 grad. Had to drive to The Big I for games back then. I had two years of Mullins and a year of Mel. Held season tickets until 2001. Then I had kids. Live in Granite Falls.

You are wrong. I am saying that Danielle Trotta’s stance on Charlotte basketball has zero effect on my position. The thread is entitled Danielle Trotta You Are What’s Wrong With our Fan Base. Obviously she is a Carolina fan so she is not part of the 49er fan base.
Hey listen, I kind of understand where you guys are coming from. But I have never attended a game and asked someone why they came and got the response “Because I saw some highlights on WBTV last night”. It’s an absurd argument. But the enthusiasm is great. I just hope Bobby does something to make WBTV want to put highlights of Charlotte on. I hate them as much as you do , but as far as doing what needs to be done for exposure (local and national) Davidson got it done this year. I just keep hoping for something like that out of Bobby.
But I have never attended a game and asked someone why they came and got the response “Because I saw some highlights on WBTV last night”. It’s an absurd argument.
WRONG. Most teams have numerous fans that attend their games because the team is pumped by the local media. And it seems our own local media are the ones telling us otherwise.
What kind of effect does the constant media negativity have on our current students? That’s one of the reasons we have a problem with school loyalty.
The person in this thread who took the most reasonable course of action was…metro? Really? But there it is. Talk to the girl before you tear her to pieces. Not everyone sees the UNCC/UNC-Ch dogfight we have going on because the real injustices are given little attention and so not everyone thinks of Chapel Hill as an enemy of our unviersity. That’s why stuff like this keeps happening, people don’t see ANY connection between us and UNC-Ch so why would it be bad to support both schools? They don’t know about the administrative side and there isn’t any real sports rivalry to speak of (although there probably will be after we go to Fetzer and beat them by 5 goals later in the year), so it doesn’t even occur to them that you can’t support them both. Not that it’s ok to support a school over your own even if that school has no connection to your school anyway, but that’s really a matter of personal pride.
And a LOT of people feel like they have to support either Duke or Chapel Hill if they’re from NC, no matter where they went to school. This is, of course, a terrible mistake, but it’s a very prevalent one and you can’t correct it by just being dismissive or vehement. You have to talk to this people.

LOL at all that. What other faulty logic and red herrings do you have left? We are discussing 49er alums who fail to support their own alma mater more than an ACC team.
Obviously you have an agenda against Lutz, and thats not what the subject is. Bobby Lutz taking us to the elite 8 won’t fix the Danielle Tratta-like comments from our alum.

I believe this to be very accurate. But guess who causes this symptom the most? The media. Notre Dame is the best example of this. ND sucks. Yet they have the biggest fan base. And it’s not because all of those fans are from Indiana.
And yes, the media’s constant pushing of the Tobacco Road rivalry is what makes media members and casual fans alike feel like they either have to choose sides or be left out. But that doesn’t excuse it. Most of the culprits are old enough to not let the media boss them around. That said, there are good and bad ways to go about it. Metro did it right.

I like Lutz. Good guy. Good coach. Not many good wins in the past few years but we probably can’t hire anyone better.
My point is this, Danielle Trotta will attend more UNC-Chapel Hill B-ball games next year than Charlotte B-ball games. Bet on it. She will because she is not a b-ball fan, she will because she feels it is the cool thing to do. She enjoys the ride on the bandwagon. And no matter how many e-mails she receives or what she may say in a response you will see her more in baby blue next year than green. Lost cause. Forget about it. She said it on Packer’s show because she thought it was cool.
You look for her at Niners games and have your boy J Sabbagh look for her at Carolina games and I bet he spots her more.
