I know you guys don’t listen to Packman…and I rarely do for that matter. But it was on as I was leaving the gym and Poole was getting smacked by a caller. It was the best call EVER on Packman.

Poole was complaining again how Bunting should be fired because UNC should be a Top 10 program and he can’t get them there.

Caller: Bunting is improving…the scheduling is why they lose.
D.P.: They should win those games.

Caller: How many Top 25 teams did UNC play last year?
D.P.: I don’t know.

Caller: That’s the problem…you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about!

Caller: 8 of their 11 games last year were agains Top 25 teams. How many of those did they win?
D.P.: I don’t know.

Caller: EXACTLY. You have no clue what you’re talking about. You just like to bitch!

But just to be fair…I could have misquoted Poole. He always sounds as if he’s got a mouth full of chicken when he’s trying to talk, so sometimes he’s hard to understand…but I’m pretty sure it’s accurate…I just felt I needed to make that disclaimer.

That is funny. With all that said Chapel Hill should have a top 25 program year end and out. They have the facilities and they have the money and they are getting the recruits. The coaching is awful regardless of schedule.

That is HILARIOUS! Thanks for helping get my weekend off to a great start. That is so typical of Poole.

I’ve heard it said 100’s of times. The reason people cannot stand unc-chapel hill is their fans and Poole exemplifies this.

Some of them actually are elitists, however. They own the largest doublewide in the trailer park.

Chapel Hell is lucky to be .500 each year, they have no tradition, no fan base for football, tar hole football will never be successful on a regular basis; they don’t know what real football is.

Carolina and State are in the same boat - they have GREAT facilities and loyal fans - you’d definitely think they’d win more games.

I’ll be starting my day off right by watching Clemson beat UNC like a red-headed stepchild.

That $89 I spent on Wake season tickets is looking pretty good right now. Of course they may only win the next home game (Liberty) and lose the other 3games (Clempsun, BC and Va Tech) but it will have been worth it to have the Holes self-destruct.

At times, I have to wonder whose side Poole is really on. His ridiculous statements do more to make the tarholes (school and fans) look bad than to make them look good. It’s a shame Packer doesn’t have him on every show.

The funny thing about this post? Well, there are several.

  1. The guy who called the radio on Friday, Jason from Greensboro or Raleigh or somewhere, actually said, “You can’t judge a program by what happens on the scoreboard.” Now if you guys think somebody who’d say that is spouting brilliance, I am wasting my time here.
  2. Are UNCC fans really upset that somebody would say North Carolina should be humilated by having a football program that is so pathetic? It’s not about “entitlement,” it’s about recognizing that Carolina has everything you need to have a winning program excpet, apparently, leadership. Surely UNCC fans don’t think it’s “acceptable” for UNCC athletics to aspire to the occasional “moral victory” and accept the loser’s proposition that it’s impossible to compete for wins, conference championships and berths in playoffs (when applicable). Shouldn’t North Carolina be held to the same standard.
  3. The caller asked me to cite specifics. I was sitting in a tent at a tennis tournament. I don’t have the Tar Heel football guide committed to memory. But I don’t think you need to have a lot of data to have the sense North Carolina has underperformed in football. So when I got home I looked up some numbers. Under John Bunting, North Carolina is 25-39 overall and 16-26 in the ACC. Four of the ACC wins are against Duke. The Tar Heels are 6-19 against ranked opponents with an average score of a 33-17 loss. They’ve been beaten by 30 or more points 12 times in Bunting’s tenure. Does that strike anybody as acceptable?
  4. The caller asked me how many games Carolina should “expect” to win in a given year. I said, “All of them.” Isn’t that how any team should approach a season? Of course I don’t expect any team to go undefeated year in and year out (maybe Independence High), but if you’re playing major college football and you’re telling your alumni and supporters “We need your support to build top-flight facilities so we can compete,” and then you go 25 years without winning a CONFERENCE title, aren’t you guilty of deception? I never said North Carolina should be top 10 in football every year. I said North Carolina should ASPIRE to be a top 10 program in football and work toward that. If you’re going to do that, is John Bunting the coach who can make that happen? That’s the relevant question.
