David Poole got Pwned!!!!!!!

I actually do have a serious question, no fooling around. When you’re a student at North Carolina, you refer to the school as “Carolina” as sort of a shorthand. When I was in college, people who went to UNC Charlotte called it UNCC, to the best of my recollection. Has that changed? Do students now say “I go to Charlotte?” Or do they say “I go to U-N-C-C?” Has that changed?

My girlfriend, currently a student refers to it as Charlotte to all of her friends at ASU “App”, NCSU “State” or UNC “Carolina”.

I would say that most say they go to Charlotte. I do.

Apologies for a duplicate post there for a minute. I didn’t see the first one pop up and I really am curious about the Charlotte-UNCC thing.
I know where UNC-Charlotte is. It’s a big school over there off N.C. 49, very nice athletic facilities. Had a kid go there for a year, as a matter of fact. The signs all say “The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.” So as far as I can tell, that’s the school’s name.
But I have looked and I have looked and I still haven’t found this school named Charlotte. Is that near South Park or something?
Welcome to 6 years ago:
http://charlotte49ers.cstv.com/genrel/082300aaa.html

My boss (Auburn grad, SEC fan) tells clients we meet abroad that I went to Charlotte. I usually say Charlotte, but UNCC is fine as well. That is the name until they change it.

When asked who my favorite college teams are I say “Tennessee and Charlotte”, not “UTK and UNCC”. Just like my buddy says “Va Tech” instead of “Virginia Polytechinical University [etc etc]”.

It’s only difficult if you make it so.

Thanks. I really didn’t know if there had been a change in the way people refer to the school.

I dont use the term “UNCC”. Its always “Charlotte”…if more clarification is required then its “UNC CHARLOTTE”.

I prefer to defile the UNC system and piss off everyone who’s gaga about it.

Just Charlotte baby, just Charlotte.

The results of my search on Yahoo! for “Charlotte basketball.” Notice the Bobcats don’t even get a site listed until #4. Below it, notice the results of my search on Yahoo! for “Carolina Football” … South Carolina dominates, and UNC-Chapel Hill doesn’t even get a mention until #5 (Interestingly, Coastal Carolina is ahead of you.). Try yourself if you don’t believe me:

David, how did you hear about this site anyway?

I know all about Niner Nation. I have looked in here many times but registered last weekend to answer questions in this thread. You guys might think all I pay attention to is racing, but that’s not true.

When I started going there in 2001 I refered to it as UNCC, but since sophmore year I started calling it Charlotte. My senior year in high school we had an exchange student and he thought UNCC was Chapel Hill and Charlotte was UNC.

What I want to know is…where in this thread are there questions posed to david? I didnt know anyone asked him any questions at all?

Mr Poole, don’t you think that’s pretty interesting about the search for “Carolina Football” having unc-chapel hill come in behind Coastal Carolina.

BTW, my sister has a degree from chapel hill (possibly in the same major as you) and she has ALWAYS referred to the school simply as “chapel hill”. I also have quite a few friends who also reference their school as “chapel hill”. No, they don’t use the “UNC”. That’s their perogative. It’s also also our choice to call our school just plain “Charlotte”. Before you even ask, we all called it UNCC when I was there, but times do change. It’s time for you to stop living in the past and get over whatever hangup you have against our school.

Off handed comment overheard at a South Carolina booster meeting (no idea if this is true or if it is just a story that sounds good… but it is somewhat funny).

BOOSTER: Coach Spurrier, is it true we are playing North Carolina in football in few years:

Spurrier:yes

BOOSTER: Will there be a trophy of some sort involved?

Spurrier: No, but Coach Bunting and myself have agreed that the loser of the game will change their name from “Carolina” to “North Of Carolina”

Ha! That is awesome!

Sounds like a typical Spurrier comment to me…

Like the saying you can’t spell Citrus Bowl without UT… as in Univ. of Tenn.

Also, talking before the game to his players about the fire that burned down the student-athlete library at Auburn. He said they lost all twenty books in that fire, but the real tragedy is that 17 of them had not been colored yet.

One more thing that relates to the original topic… Stating that unc-chaple hill has (or should have) a Top 10 football program is about the equivalent of saying Penn State is (or should be) a Top 10 basketball school.

(sorry to pick on your other school NLP, but I thought it was a good example)
