If you cant score against HS competition as a 7 footer, it’s tough to even call you a project.

True. Well maybe we could dub him “The Manhattan Project”.
If you cant score against HS competition as a 7 footer, it's tough to even call you a project.Pretty much. 6 points per game...
Guys, I’ve seen this kid play several times. He’s reeeeeeeeeally bad. We don’t want him.
yes yes yes, you’re exactly right. played against concord last year, didn’t play at all, he sucked during warm ups, and he’s very very very uncoordinated. his freshman year, he was 6’10, he couldn’t dunk yet… rumor has it…
Not saying it's drastic, but his fouls over time has gotten better and his defensive output has improved too. He's even scoring some, though offense is not strong for him at all.Dude, Chevee and I have in recent games taken bets on how quickly he would foul after coming into the game. I usually win with my standard 46 seconds.
Yes, amazingly i didn’t see a foul from him at the Xavier game. Props to him on that.

Give me 8 inches and I would practice nothing else until it happened.

Well, it may be one of those things where he can physically dunk, but can’t get the coordination together to ever do it in a game.

There is. Bob Kurland (the first seven-footer in the NCAA back in the 1940’s) once said in an interview he could never have dunked in a game.
And I have seen Wishon dunk in pregame.
Unless you have an incredible vertical to make up for it, there is some coordination when dunking a basketball. I could dunk @ one time when I played consistently enough, but at 6’2" it takes more coordination than someone might think.

I don’t think he played varsity basketball last year. If you’ve played against Concord then you should know that a slow 7 footer has no place in a lineup like that. Concord runs all the time so it’s hard for him to keep up. In the two games i’ve seen this year, he’s gotten fouled 2-3 times on the pass into him. He isn’t going to get the ball a lot in a fast court offense like that, so 6 points for him isn’t really that bad. He rarely misses when he shoots around the basket. By the way, he can dunk the ball fairly easy, and i’m pretty sure he was dunking his freshman year.
Dave Telep, the recruiting guy said that Wishon played very well offensively and defensively on David Chadwick (who we recruited)…i’ll try and find the link somewhere.
David Wishon is transferring from Concord High school to First Assembly…a private school in Concord. He will be a major project in college. He is extremely slow.
I dont know much at all about this kid, but we did have a ‘project’ come through for us once. Jermaine Parker (is that right?)…kid was like 6’11’’ or 7’0’’ and had to redshirt. Kinda slow and awkward but really developed when he became a senior and was blocking shots left and right.
Parker did not blossom until his senior season with us, but he did become a shot-blocking phenom. He and Jarvis were a nice tandem down low that year.
I know this kid is tall, but I don’t know that we can afford a three-year project. By the sound of it, this kid may be a 4-5 year project.
It seems a kid who is growing so fast would have difficulty growing into his body. I predict if he has stopped growing he will show marked improvement his senior year. Big guys take a bit longer to come along. BTW don’t compare him to Iti, Iti was 6’9" when he was measured by the NBA, don’t know how we missed that one. I remember Todd Fuller for NC State was Ok his first couple of years but a real star his senior year. How bout Luke Schenser at GT, he was awful, useless his first two years and then became instrumental in a NCAAs final run. How bout McFarland at WF right now, he came in at 7’ 215, he didn’t even play his first year I believe and now he is a key offensive player and the starting center. You’ve got to give big guys some time, but once they figure out how to be 7’+ it really pays off, of course that coin does have another side, just saying what COULD happen.

This is probably a good move for him considering Concord has a run and gun offense…he isn’t the fastest guy around.
I am a little scared about tall guys who are projects (Martin Iti for example). We can’t seem to follow up on the, “You can teach skill but you can’t teach height,” adage. If he becomes a little more dominate defensively in the paint then he could be worth it, esp. if it translates into rebounds on both sides. Shooting is not a big concern b/c we really never have big men who shoot that often anymore, most of our game is played behind the arc or just inside it.
A High School 7 footer worth a damn is going top shelf BCS. These guys don’t grow on trees. If we get a guy 6 11 or bigger bet the house he will be a project, doesn’t mean the kid can’t be a player with some work. Parkers name is mationed several times in this threadfor good reason.

Kuehle was not a polished player inside, either. The injury his junior season (JUCO) kept him from reaching his full potential and what I think would have been an even better senior season. He did for us what we needed him to do though, and that was keep the heat off of DeMarco and keep the riff-raff out of the lane. Kuehle was an imposing player, as he was no beanpole. Averaged 6.9 ppg and 7.9 rpg his senior season and had 44 blocks.
Commits to Tulsa.
The team we should never, ever, ever play again.
