We are hard pressed to win with or without Mayfield. At the very least this will get our two freshman Vic and Will some more playing time which should only make them better in years to come. Amazed to know what Green did, even being undermanned heās still not playing. Canāt imagine Mayfield coming back the way Major has treated others who didnāt break the law (that we know of).
Itās a valid point, players donāt always like discipline. Look at the NY Giants, players hate their coach but he gets them to win by playing that fine line of discipline. Then you have āplayers coachesā in which the players play hard for and win.
So you can be a coach of either strategy and win (itās been proven), I think it really comes down to how good you are and doing what you do.

Maybe Derrio suggested that he just go bald instead of having that awful hairline?
This is so true.
If Ron Paul was president this would never happen
Not going to rub it in 99 but I took alot of heat for questioning Majorās hard line approach to Spears which greatly diminished our chances of winning.
Going to be interesting to see the Major hypocrites on this board in light of this Major development.
I want Day Day back asap. As in the case with Spears we will be hardpressed to win without him.
āThis is not a church leagueā[/quote]
Mayfield and Spears are not the same in any way. To say their situations are the same is beyond moronic. Which of course is why soFool did it.
Do you think he will be kicked off? Or will this be a first strike situationā¦
I have no idea what Major will do. We need Mayfield to start b/c without him we will not win another game this season. That being said WTF did Green do? Now dont get me wrong I still think the right spot for Green is to ride the pine most games. However, once Mayfield was not going to play & E-Vic fouled outā¦you gotta give PH and Briscoe a breather. Towards the end of the game we needed fresh legs more than anything else. Green could have provided that.
If Mayfield is done then so is this season. I was still holding out some hope we would be sitting around 8-9 come seasons end and that given how close the teams that are in the 7-12 really are, maybe we win on playoff game. Oh wellā¦Baseball starts soon.
I never said their situations were the sameā¦but iām sure its hard for you to read with those MAJOR GREEN KOOLAID GLASSES on.
Spears broke a team rule (3gm suspension) Mayfield broke the law.(1gm suspension) Yes theres a MAJOR difference.
āWe GANGSTAZ OVER HERE IN 2012ā

Sokool I dont usually mind your little rants but right now you are being a clown. We have no idea how long Mayfield will be suspended. It has only been one game since his arrest. I have a feeling he will be out a good bit of the season. (I would rather it be only one game however)
Obviously he should have been suspended but Spears was suspended for 3 games after he was already suspended the first or second game of the year. Him, Jones, Wilderness were all suspended the GW and the next game. Spears was a cancer. I knew it was going to be bad when he competed in the 3 point contest at midnight madness. You could just tell it was all about me and I do what I want.
Also, I would like to know if these players go to class because with Lutz they were never in class. I had class and had friends who had class with them and they were there 5 classes all year. I know some people who were managers and the players were, and probably still are, always asking for them to go and sign them into class. I dont know how much Major enforces this but the fact is they are getting a free education so get your ass in class. You have personal tutors to help you, you take the minimal amount of classes, only have to make a B or C. Give me a break.
For the game, we probably should have won but when one guy scores about 10 points less than the rest of the teamā¦you donāt deserve to win. When Nickerson went out with 10 left, it was over. I donāt even remember the lineup but I think it was henry, deuce, williams, jb, braswell. Not cutting it. oh well, move onto the next one.
Yep, the mug shot lists him as 6ā-3" 185, and he is listed as 6ā-5" 205 on our roster. SIZE KING wonāt be happy about that. :o
Joking aside, seeing players in mug shots hurts worse than losing.
EDIT: And just to note, the arrests we have had in the past hurt the same if not more than this one.
How many losses can we blame on suspensions, being kicked off the team, and being in the coachās doghouse over the last 1 2/3 seasons?
Iām not sayng they should not have been suspended. I am saying I am getting tired of it. Demonās hairdryer incident seems. so long ago now.
Spears was a cancer, and dug his own grave. Undermining the coach is not a good strategy for a player, and Spears got the only result that could be expected. It went much deeper than him simply breaking a team rule. While Mayfieldās bad decision may or may not result in more missed games, my guess is that he hasnāt tried to hijack the team away from the coach.
A tale of two halves last night for sure. We got threed to death beginning at the end of the first half, and had no answers as far as defending it. I didnāt understand the halfcourt trap against them when they were moving the ball so well prior to that. All it did was give them more open 3ās. For the life of me I canāt figure out why Braswell and JB canāt have good games at the same time. Itās always seemingly one or the other, and for this team to be able to beat quality teams they both are going to have to have good games. Weāve got plentyof athletes and good defenders going forward, but as others have said we donāt have any good shooters sans Briscoe. T-Will, Demarrio, and Evic are all take it to the rim guys. You need those guys on your team, but when thatās all you have youāre team is pretty easy to defend.
First of all, I hope Sokool gets hit by a bus. Even if it means an infant throws a toy bus at him⦠a bus is a bus is a bus.
Second of all, Shamari did get a one-game suspension for the exact same thing DeMario got arrested for. It was what happened after the one-game suspension that did him in.
Third, Iām sure a lack of in-game effort played a large role in Derrio getting benched. If I were a betting man, Iād wager that the fact that was taking pictures on his cell phone from the bench at Fordham, then posting them on twitter, had something to do with it.
People should be more upset that in 2012, we still arrest people for smoking weed. Get a grip people.
People seem to want a ton of hand holding by the coaches. If you donāt think the coaches donāt tell players to stay away from the stuff youāre a fool. However, they canāt give them pat downs.
I donāt really know what people would want the coaching staff to do in these situations. If you break rules you pay the price, they should be no different then you or me. The price people are willing to pay just to win is a joke, and you wonder why the youth of America is so fucked up.
Very disappointing news about the reason for Mayfieldās absence. If the charges prove to be true then he should be dismissed from the team. I like college basketball and I like to see the 49ers win games. But, I would rather watch a team lose with players with good character than win with thugs and drug users on the team. I really enjoyed watching Mayfieldās progress and improvement this year. And, I hope he will give up using drugs if he has been using them and or dealing them. If Coach Major is really interested in helping Mayfield, then he should teach him a lesson by imposing a real penalty if he is guilty as charged. It may wake him up and change his life for the better. And, it will be an example for other players and potential recruits.
Another sad day for Niner Basketball in the Major era.
Are you freaking kidding me? I donāt want players who have been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon or something, but smoking weed, DWI, come on, that s*** happens in college. I want to win, I donāt want bad people making up our bball team, but if they get in trouble for the kind of stuff college kids do, no, I donāt think they should be off the team.
I have plenty of friends who are doctors, lawyers, and PhDs who smoke weed, and a few of them have DWIs. I mean really, give me a break.
(P.S. - Iām only throwing in DWI with this b/c alcohol is legal, unlike weed.)
(P.P.S. - I donāt smoke weed)
