DeMarco Wants To Be An Assistant

DeMarco is putting his name in to be considered for an assistant position.

There is a FaceBook group started for him.

I would love to see the guy on the bench for the Niners:

1- Would connect well to the older fan base
2- Was a great model of a kid who stayed at home to play and benefited greatly from that decision. Most likely stood out to Jobey and Curtis in their decisions.
3- Best big man we have ever had.

I say at least put him on as a DOBO.

Be honest, you started the fb group; didn’t you?

Actually, a friend of mine did. I thought it was a great idea.

DeMarco was one of the great contributors of all time to our program and I think it’s a great idea.

Demarco could really help with coaching and recruiting big men for the program.

I think he should be on the staff as well. At least at the end of the bench as a 3rd or 4th assistant.

Apparently he already met with Judy to let his interest be known. Here’s hoping that Major will have some interest in him.

DeMarco broke in Halton Arena for the program. I still remember the Cincy games that this guy would have Huggins cursing at his players.

I think this is a great idea.

I’m all for it.

I like it.

Support!

Candidates pretty much have their staff picked out and sell it as a package. It would be great to get some Demarco back in the mix but not likely.

I’m for it.

I posted about it after the send off. Demarco was there and told me he wanted to try his hand at coaching. Between Major and Demarco we’d have some AMAZING big men coaches. Added to that an ex-niner (with his jersey on the wall) and a local guy and there’s little down-side to this IMO. I’m sure Lefty is right and Coach Major has his staff already decided but hopefully he can find a spot for Demarco somewhere.

After Major wins us a National Championship and gets hired by a “bigger program”, DeMarco can easily make the transition from AC to HC.

Just curious, but besides the fact he was a great player and he wants to be a coach what makes you think DeMarco would be an amazing coach? Just asking the question.

Do it Coach Major. Do it now.

We really don’t know what kind of coach he can be.
My guess is that from his collegiate and professional experience he could do pretty well with some player development.
I would also guess that he could relate well to potential recruits and has good basketball connections in the area.

Like I said, I would at least bring him on as a DOBO with a chance to move up.

One reason I’d like to see him on staff is because he represents Charlotte. He was a local guy who chose Charlotte over the other big time programs in the state and had a great career. Although he didn’t have much of a NBA career, he was drafted. He could be a very valuable commodity when it comes to landing local guys.
