Doneal Mack - 2006

Not sure if we’re involved with this kid at this point yet, but Doneal Mack is from Charlotte Independence. He was the Five-Star’s Pitt III Playoff MVP and Most Outstanding Player for the Week.

His early list includes: Connecticut, Florida State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Charlotte.

I saw were he is now at Stateville Christian(the school that Germany kid went to Edwin O.). Are we (still) recruiting him? He’s a Jr. now.

From this morning’s Big O:

Statesville (Christian) coach John Jordan said coaches from Texas Tech, Florida, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech are regularly attending the team’s games to scout Mack, whose team plays at Victory Christian tonight and at Oak Hill (Va.) on Friday.

Charlotte.com: Prep Sports

Rivals.com now has Charlotte listed as High on his list.

High: Charlotte

Medium: Florida, Memphis State, Va Tech, and Texas Tech

Low: WFU, NCSU, Louisville, FSU and Clemson

6-5 Shooting Guard. I reminder watching highlights of Independence when he was a freshman and Isaac Hunter(ODU?) was a senior. I thought he was better that Hunter at the time.

Wow. Mack is one of the best Juniors in the state. I don’t see a story where he listed us as his favorite. Hope JJ can get some more on it. I’m thinking that Bob Gibbons (now on Rivals staff and friend of Jason’s) has been calling around and updating the interest lists of the NC guys.

More on Mack. He scored 36 on Mt Zion:

Rivals.com

Mack continues to improve and impress.
“Doneal played really well against Mt. Zion,” said Statesville Christian head coach John Jordan. “He dropped 36 on them. They tried zone, and he shot them out of it. Then they went man and put Rush on him. Doneal killed Rush, and they had to put switch someone else on him.”

The latest: According to rivals.com, Charlotte is the first to offer (Feb 3, 05). We’re now listed as Medium interest along with schools from the ACC, SEC, and Big East.

Mack visited for the Win over Cincinnati on Feb 5th.

Problem is that his coach sounds like he views the Charlotte offer as motivation to the other schools…to make their move. I guess it’s all part of the process.

He now has offers from Charlotte, Providence and South Carolinal. He is also hoping to hear from G’town, Florida, Va. Tech, but none of those schools have offered. He wants to make a decision in the spring.

He also now has an offer from Virginia Tech.

Doneal Mack - Recruiting article 2/14/05

Coach has little to no influence in the decision. Mack and Dad will be making the decision and that is a good thing for us. Coach is just enjoying his moment in the sun.

Saw him play last night in the SPAA Conf. tournament at Victory Christian vs Victory.

He is skinny and has long arms, but is very quick to the basket. He has a nice 1st step and gets to the basket real well. He has very quick/nice hops. He had 19, but started out real hot by scoring 10 in the 1st quarter and then they guarded him very tight for the rest of the game. His outside shot was not fallen(eventhough he is a good ft shooter- 7-8 or so) and seem to more of a wing forward than shooting guard.

Miami & Florida St. have now offered and they are now his leaders. Florida and Charlotte in addition to Virginia Tech have shown considerable interest as well. However, it’s this pair of ACC foes from the same state that has ascended above the rest of the pack.

I’ve been told that Wafer will likely transfer from FSU.

Why go play for a bottom feeder ACC team? Will these kids never learn from their predecessors’ mistakes? Apparently not. They have to go experience how bad it sucks for themselves.

Doneal, you’re a hell of a lot better off starting for a 1st rung A10 team than a bottom rung ACC team, no matter what else you’ve heard. We’ve seen this situation played over and over before.

Would you rather be Jameer Nelson & Delonte West, (St Joes) & David West (Xavier), Rodney White, or any of FSU’s or Clemson’s players (none of which will get drafted)?

Food for thought.

I figured Wafer would just apply for the draft. A high profile kid that signs with FSU always brings a chuckle. I would LOVE to hear or see what they are promising these kids. I guess FSU just keeps on polishing up that turd. The only thing about that is, it is still a turd.

If Wafer transfers, you’d better believe we will be on him hard.

Sounds like a personal problem
