East Tennessee State pregame

And to some fans, he could win 21 games unexpectedly and it wouldn’t matter.

Anything less than 21 wins would be a step backwards IMO.

We lost our two leading scorers, a versatile forward in Nickerson, and a scrappy PF that could be counted on for tough rebounds and put backs.

We replaced them with a sophomore that some have played maybe unrealistic expectations on and two forwards that don’t look to be nearly as ready as Clayton and Clark were last year.

I hear ya dude… I’m just saying from my perspective, if we are continuing to grow as a program that 21 wins should be the new bar (along with an NIT bid)… If we don’t hit those I’ll view the season as a step back.

Doesn’t mean much but this predicts the likelihood of a 21 win season or better at around 2%.
Obviously I hope I’m dead wrong but this probably will not go well. ETSU was TERRIBLE last year, a whole lot of internal strife, all three assistants and the Director of Operations left, only replaced with two assistant coaches. Huge roster turnover for a team that can’t run halfcourt sets at all (ETSU never has under Bartow), they want to play man defensively but are short on depth and athleticism.
And yes, Ron Giplaye had heart surgery. The other ā€œBigs,ā€ Lukas Poderis was hurt last year and isn’t much of a threat anywhere, KGG and Hunter Harris are back, but are at best spotty. The two newcomers, Darius Forrest and Isaac Banks, who knows?
Guard play should be much better this year for ETSU, but most of us are still waiting on the lightswitch to flip on for Petey McClain.
I expect ETSU to compete early, lose by 18-22 with late free throws skewing the final score higher.
Someone for Charlotte will go for about 30 and probably set a school record for three pointers in a game, too. It’s a benchmark of Murry Bartow basketball.
Again, I hope I’m wrong, good luck guys. Also glad to see football is going well for you guys. We’re not far behind in restarting.
Hey, welcome to the board. I spent a good amount of time up at Johnson City going hiking in the mountains between there and Boone while I was going to school at Charlotte. It looks like you have a pretty good offense coming in this year, but it doesn’t look like you’ll be a good defensive team. Defense has been our calling card ever since Coach Major joined the program, so I expect that to be the difference and we end up winning by 9. I’m still not convinced our offense will be that great this year, but we will see.

I hope the Bucs end up going on and end up putting together a big winning season this year, after we thoroughly demolish them

Also, has the Krystal in Johnson City always smelled? I stopped there back in may and )$*)!$!$) that thing smelled like rotting corpses.

Charlotte/ETSU matchup always makes me think of the midnight tip off game in the 90s.

I was a Sr in HS when this game was played and this made me so excited about going to Charlotte. Also this video makes me really mad that we removed seating in the mineshaft.

Was there, sitting under the basket. Never forget that dunk Jarvis blew.

Lang was a freak.

He is HUGE now - and by huge I mean cut like an NFL linebacker.

Love the video, though we lost.

To our douche fans who rail on college programs who have high school like gyms, watch and learn.

I’m so proud of our past. Love it. Got NO problem with UNC dash Charlotte and the Mine Shaft.

Give me players like Williams and Lang playing ranked opponents on campus. Damn.

Agree.

Several future pros in that game. Wonder exactly how many. ?

And from mine, I don’t. Teams change, not only ours, but others, some get better, some get worse. I’d love to start trending upward but I prefer to judge a season by how many games we win/lose, how we lose them, and who those teams are that we lose to. Each his own though.

Just learned this afternoon that I have to hop a plane tomorrow and won’t make it to the game. That sucks. I will be looking for a free feed instead, so if anyone has one that would be great.

You are supposed to Hop on the Bus.

Yep, Unfortunately it will be an Airbus.

I’m pretty excited.

Hope to see Mike play a lot of minutes and not foul out.

I guess I’m concerned about him with the new rule changes, not that I have evidence to be. It’s just, new bigs foul out a lot, and this year might be especially challenging in that respect. We’re bigger than they are, alright. Still. I want to see him fit in, get it, play valuable minutes and seem dependable given how thin we are.
