Eddie Basden stock falling again

Eddie just dropped from going #36 to Milwaukee all the way to #52 Denver

Per Nbadraft.net

Defensive standout shooting guard Eddie Basden has struggled in workouts due to a lack of an outside shot.

Clearly nbadraft.net is a bunch of fools.

It seems the general consensus is that Eddie will be taken anywhere from 35 - 55. Which seems about what we expected. He is listed at #40 on CollegeHoops net, #32 on Probasketball and #52 on Draftcity.com.
But it doesnt really matter if he gets selected #31 or #60, as long as he goes to a team that needs him.
Hopefully he can put in a good showing this week at the pre-draft camp.

This was taken from Probasketball.com where they list Eddie the number#7 ranked shooting Guard:
Hidden Gem: The shooting and ball-handling skills of Eddie Basden are not up to snuff for an NBA guard. Normally, the lack of skill in those areas wouldn’t warrant him a look, but Basden’s defensive aggression and intensity will be very attractive to teams in the Second Round looking for a young guy to come in hungry for a job and push the veterans. His rugged play and ability to score are reminiscent of Bobby Phills.

Draft Projection: Second round

Similarities: James Posey

Positives: One of the best on the ball defenders in the draft. A good athlete who uses his strength and lateral quickness to shut down opponents. Offensively, he’s most comfortable taking the ball to the basket. A powerful finisher and dunker. A great rebounder for someone his size. Has a solid handle, averaged nearly 4 assists per game. A hard worker willing to do all of the little things.

Negatives: His perimeter game is still under construction. He’s turned himself into a decent set shooter, but struggles to hit shots off the dribble. A little undersized, with scouts saying he’s closer to 6-foot-4.

Summary: For a team looking for a defensive specialist, Basden might be a solid second round pick. He isn’t going to be amazing in workouts. But when teams roll out the ball, he’s as tough as they come.

sounds about right… although he seems much closer to 6’5" than 6’4". if you add in his heart he’s a solid 6’7" though. LOVE BASDEN!!!

I made this comparison a couple of times to my friends at our games. They really remind me of each other in style of play, physical attributes, and just overall demeanor. Go Eddie!

The GW student newspaper is reporting that Eddie has been invited to the Chicago Pre-Draft Camp. Invitees also include GW’s Pops Mensah-Bonsu, LaSalle’s Steven Smith, and Saint Joseph’s Dwayne Jones. Others who the Niner faithful will recognize include Sean Banks and Travis Diener.

BTW, GSpot, I have scoured the list for Curtis Withers and, with God as my witness, have not been able to find him on it anywhere! :stuck_out_tongue:

Interesting tidbit from the Bobcats website:

In 2004, only three Chicago participants -- Delonte West (24), Tony Allen (25) and Beno Udrih (28) -- snuck into the first round.
With those odds, I expect to see Dwayne Jones (St. Joes'), Pops Mensah-Bonsu (GW), and Steven Smith (LaSalle) returning to their respective A-10 institutions for the 2005-06 season.

Eddie is on Team 1 at Chicago. Here’s a list:

Team 1

7 John Gilchrist 6-2 201 PG Maryland Jr.
6 Daryl Dorsey (Rome, GA ABA)
20 Eddie Basden 6-5 205 SG Charlotte Sr.
26 Brandon Rush 6-7 205 SG/SF NC HSSr.
38 Omar Thomas 6-6 210 SF UTEP
32 Chuck Hayes 6-6 240 SF Kentucky Sr. 34
64 Marcus Slaughter 6-8 211 SF SD St. So.
61 Ellis Myles 6-8 250 PF Louisville Sr.
55 Deng Gai 6-9 250 PF Fairfield Sr.
81 Marcin Gortat 7-0 240 C Poland 1984

Eddie drops off of nbadraft.net despite having 13 points and 4 steals in Game 4 of Chicago and noted as top defender in entire draft!

B S!

Garcia - 30?

Diener - 42? ?

Chad Ford on ESPN Insider said that Basden was the best defender in camp and that he played his way into the middle of the second round.

I would be so pumped if my Magic would take E. Bas @ 41 or 44. We need defense, and I am planning on purchasing a Basden jersey (even if I have to buy a personalized one off of nba.com), but a Magic one would be that much sweeter. So I can hang it in my closet beside my Hot Rod Pistons jersey :o

There is no harder worker than Eddie and he is an outstanding defender. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the shooting skills that teams are looking for at the SG position. Also, his ball handling skills need work. If he wants to make it in the NBA, he has to make dramatic improvement in those two areas. Bruce Bowen is a great role model for him and something to shoot for. Good luck Eddie!!!

wouldn’t read to much into nbadraft.net. guy is all over the place. has felton falling to the bobcats at 13, he won’t make it past the lakers if he’s still on the board. guy had basden in the mid 30s two-three weeks ago and now he’s not even on the list??? even when it has been reported by more than one source he was the best defender at chicago? i mean if teams were only worried about offense abilities, why are the two best defensive teams in the finals? where’s phoenix? too much stock is placed on guys being able to create your own shot, being creative w/ the ball, etc. you can’t have a team w/ 5 guys on the floor having the ability to create your own shot and not be able to play any D (see rodney white, at least that’s the knock against him, right?) i’m not too worried about basden not being selected, at minimum in the 2nd round. some team will be smart, or rather, have the intelligence (this means NOT the ny knicks) to see basden’s value and take him in the 2nd. the guy also has hodge going in the 2nd round. from everything that i’ve read, hodge is a first rounder, albeit late (promise to be selected probably, he didn’t attend chicago).

/sorry about the rant, had to get it off my chest
//goes back to lurking

Yeah no way Detroit or a San Antonio passes on the heir apparent to Bruce Bowen. Eddie’s shot will come. He hasn’t played basketball his whole life. A jump shot can be taught. Eddie is a warrior and plays hard.

From Sportsline.com:

Three of the most impressive college seniors have been Illinois' Luther Head, UTEP's Omar Thomas and Charlotte's Eddie Basden. After showing his driving ability on Wednesday, Head made four 3-pointers on Thursday, scoring 21 points (with four steals) on just 11 shots. Thomas is among camp leaders at 17 ppg, showing he can handle the offensive shift from power forward to the wing. Basden hasn't shot all that well (7-for-16), but he leads campers with 3.5 steals per game and has driven with success.

Eddie is working out for the Bobcats today, I believe. Right now, they don’t have a pick they’d use on him, but it’s interesting that they’re looking at him.

Hope he fares well. The Bobcats workouts are reportedly brutal.

Eddie should do pretty well. The workouts are brutal. Saw today the only player who has ever finished them still going 100% is Ben Gordon last year. Sean May called “uncle” long before the end of it last week. The high school kid (Green) did pretty well but tried to cut corners near the end. GO EDDIE!!!

Just read in The O this AM that EB is hurt and will NOT work out today with Chris Paul at the b-cats practice site.

Good thing for CP that EB was IR this AM in CLT…
