Look how many foreign players went in this draft! Especially in the second round. The NBA going abroad these days makes it a little more tougher for guys like Basden to land a spot. Sad but True!! Many teams will take their chances on these foregin guys!
When you think about it, itās pretty logical why itās done. They know Eddie Basden, they know what he can do, they know what he can provide, and they know if they want him to play, they have him. With these Euros, itās speculation and itās about securing rights. The picks arenāt guaranteed, so it costs them nothing to season overseas. If they start meeting their expectations, they come on over. If not, who cares, itās a second round pick, they can go sign an Eddie Basden and itās business as usual.
Wouldnāt suprise me that the majority of players taken in the second round become foreign players with the exception of players EXPECTED to make rosters, like Ronny Turiaf with the Lakers.
Edit: Hereās a bit mention Basden from Chad Ford at ESPN
The second round became Bizzaro World, as Ricky Sanchez, Bracey Wright, Cenk Akyol, Von Wafer and Alex Acker got drafted and Randolph Morris, Matt Walsh, Kennedy Winston, Dwyane Jones, Sean Banks, John Gilchrist, Eddie Basden, Will Bynum, Jawad Williams, Angelo Gigli and Keleena Azubuike found themselves unloved and undrafted.
This years draft was a joke. Most of the HS and the foregin players will not make an impact for years if at all.
Players like Eddie deserve a shot. I know Eddie and a lot of the undrafted college players will land somewhere, but it would be nice if players like Eddie where drafted based on his accomplishments and hard work.

Sure would be nice if the Observer would give us an update on what Eddie plans to do.
Sounds like you didn't care for today's (nearly) full page photo of Curt Schilling.
As long as they donāt hire an agent, donāt get drafted and donāt spend anyone elses money apparently they can return. Too bad Shavlick Dumb Dumb didnāt take advantage of that provision.
Personally with extreme bias of course, I would have taken eddie over Julius Hodge. Hodgeās numbers were down from his junior year and Eddie did nothing but improve, and why does everyone call hodge tough, he was a whiner in the ACC and only woke up in the last 5 of most games last year. ACC bias I guess. I suspect hodge will be soft as charmin in the NBA, I donāt care how much weight he has put on.

Hence this is why the NBA will eternally suck, who cares about fundamentals and hard work and proving yourself, lets take some high school kid who beat up on other high school kids or some 7-4 guy from europe who can actually move! All the players mentioned by ford were surprising, von wafer before basden, gilcrest, banks or azubuike? Wasn't wafer a huge head case and an apparent disappointment. Do any of these GM's consider anything beyond a 45 minute workout? Well enjoy your inevitable demise NBA, stern is a moron, go have a talk with mr. roenick on management skills, ASAP.
Just joined to gain a little insight on Basden. Iām a Bulls fan and it looks like heāll be joining our summer squad and likely, due to our extreme need for a true 2 guard, our team. I think itās clear that Eddie is a lock-down defender-everybody says so-can he hit an open, set, jumper consistently? If he can, going undrafted will end up being a blessing in disquise for this guy. Anybody that can d-up aggressively will get solid minutes under skiles and anybody in the 2-hole will get plenty of open jumpers with gordon, hinrich and curry drawing attention.
I can see you guys are miffed that he didnāt get drafted, but I think youāll be happy with how this all pans out in the end. Skiles loves, and i mean LOVES, tough, dedicated players.
His biggest knock is his shooting. However he made MAJOR improvements between when he was a freshman to his senior year. He has range out to 19 feet, but he needs to be set. However he has ball handling skills that are par for a 2 guard in the league and he is an amazing rebounder. Heās only been playing basketball for about 6 or 7 years now. He has tremendous potential. I think he would be a great fit with Scott Skiles.
great! thanks for the input. Iām looking forward to seeing Basden as a Bull. Good luck to you guys next year, Iāve gotta say, Iāve been impressed with how competitive your teams have been the past 5 or so years. People talk about Gonzaga all the time, but your school gets little cred. Hopefully that changes.

Great to hear, Bulls!! As 49erFan1 said, his jumper needs work, but you are going to love this kid's hustle and over-all attitude. He is just a very unselfish player that comes in and WANTS to do whatever the team needs. He is great at playing the passing lanes, I'll be interested to see how he does on defense in the NBA. I don't think he'll lock anybody down, but they will have to put up a lot of work on offensive end to get a comfortable shot. Eddie never really got to play man on man defense here because we run several junk defences and Eddie always had to help out, but still managed to get NCAA Defensive Player of the Year (if that tells you anything about him).
I really hope he getās a shot with you guys, the kid deserves it.
For-what-itās-worth update:
Basden agreed to terms on a multi-year contract with the Bulls yesterday. Word is that he is ripping up the Las Vegas summer league and already in pretty tight with head coach skiles. I have a feeling that a lot of GMās will be getting grilled this time next year for not tagging this kid in the draft.
