Elijah Carter - 2011 PG

Former Bona commit has reclassified (will prep at Brewster in 2010-11), been released from his NLI by the Bonnies, and is being recruited by a number of schools, including Charlotte. Thus far the 6-2 PG has offers from St. Joe’s and Rutgers according to the NBE piece (linked below).

Rivals.com: Elijah Carter profile

If he’s at Brewster, he’s joining current Niner target, Naadir Tharpe.

Scout - 3 stars

ESPN - 84 rating

I suspect that 84 from ESPN will rise quite a bit at the next evaluation. Been reading about him - especially on Zagsblog - over the past year, so what looked like a “steal” for the Bonnies should be a much higher profile signing for 2011. Not surprised to read Mike Rice offered since the he had recruited Carter while still coach at Robert Morris.

tweet from Adam Zagoria:

Former St. Bonnie’s commit Elijah Carter of Paterson, NJ has picked up offers from Rutgers, Cincinnati, Richmond & Charlotte

well, we always said we wanted a rivalry in the a10 and if we get this kid then we have one. this kid was supposed to lead st. bonaventure out of the wilderness and back to national prominince.

Reading scouting articles about Carter reminds me a lot of reading scouting articles about Derrio Green last year. A point guard with big potential and improved 3pt range that can also make a very good shooting guard.

It’s almost a shame that he’s going prep. If he opened it up as a 2010 recruit, he could have really addressed some of Charlotte’s needs this season.

Don’t think anyone in Olean was expecting the 2nd coming of either Bob Lanier or Tom Stith (or even Mike Gansey, for that matter), but just looking for a solid backup and eventual heir apparent to starting PG Ogo Adegboye, especially after Malcolm Eleby left the team in June. Actually, most Bona fans seem pretty excited about the signings of SGs Sam de Haas and Matthew Wright, as well as the potential of landing combo guard Isiah Stokely (prepped last year at Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte), who will visit Olean on August 1st.

That being said, Carter has definitely raised his profile over the past year, so can’t blame him for 2nd guessing his original decision. The fact that we, Richmond, and St. Joe’s are among his suitors leads me to believe that the A-10 doesn’t have a rule against recruiting a player who originally had signed on with another conference team.

Last I checked they had one of the best big men in the A-10 on their team. If Carter was going to outperform Nicholson, then we really need to make a huge push for him.

another Zagoria tweet:

Former St. Bonnies commit Eli Carter added offers from Richmond, St. Joes, Charlotte, Rutgers and Cincy. Texas A&M, UVA, Oregon, Iowa inplay

Elijah Carter’s Stock Taking Off: Link

the 6-foot-2, 185-pound Carter is one of the hottest prospects available, as evidenced by the fact that Cincinnati, Rutgers, Oregon, Texas A&M and Charlotte wanted him to attend college this fall even though he has already said he’ll spend a prep year at Brewster (N.H. ) Academy.

Rivals and Zagsblog reporting Carter will take an official visit to Texas A&M tomorrow.

Apparently still in the hunt for him in spite of the TAMU visit per this from NBE:

“My list right now is Texas A&M, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Virginia, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, Charlotte, Richmond, Creghton and Temple,” Carter told NBE’s Matt Whitfield by text Saturday night.
