“When’s the last time you put 15 million into your basketball program?”
When is the last time your team was relevant? ECU has had ONE winning season since 01. One. In that one season you finished 18-15 (Not counting CIT) and played three teams under DI status. Those three teams pushed you to a winning season in the past ELEVEN seasons. The last true winning season was in 1996. I don’t care how pathetic our team has been lately your shitty ass school is not even on the same planet.
All those players and coaches are long gone, just like the ones that led your success a decade ago are as well. The situation you built that success on years ago recruiting with the likes of Memphis, Louisville, Cincy etc is gone as well. Pointing to that era or players and coaches that are gone has little realavance on the future at this point because it’s not the same situation and you are only as good as your current hire and players and no one really cares what happened 10 years ago.
The fact is moving foward we are investing more into our program than we ever have certainly more than a decade ago, and we are investing more than you are today. The reality moving foward that our job pays better and will be one of the top paying jobs in new CUSA and logic would tell you can attract better coaches with better investment. We will soon have as nice if not one of the nicest facilites in new CUSA for recruits to train in and that should help recruiting. Putting more money into the program is already paying off because we have gotten better and made improvements on the court. We are more serious about basketball than I’ve ever seen us and our job will be one of the best paying, biggest budgeted, and better supported in new CUSA with some nice facilites. That’s a fact. This blogger is just ignorant.

Hey stupid, our worst years are still better most of your best. Newsflash, we’ve been in the Top 25 as late as Feb, 2010. What about your pathetic team?
How is this defined? You got worse last year. Winning season 10, losing season 11. New facilities don’t mean anything. Oregon and Ok State have gotten hundreds of millions of dollars and their basketball teams are pretty good but nothing special. To the blogger point, I could also say Mike Laplante is ignorant.
For basketball? Neat - I mean that has to be the size of a walk in closet with room to spare.
I assume the game ball from that one time ECU beat Dwyane Wade is in there.
Our SOS was 3 times as strong as yours with most of the strenght from playing in CUSA east. Neat myth though.
We currently have use of a practice facility for our basketball teams. This is a new 2 court, new locker room, training room, media rooms, ECU hall of fame building etc, etc built into the arena but we have all of that stuff currently in some form. This is a new 15 million dollar investment into our basketball program. When’s the last time you put 15 million into your basketball program? I looked up your 1 court practice facility and others in CUSA that actually have them (lots don’t UAB is an example), and we will certainly have one of the nicest practice facilites in CUSA next year. We pay more, our basketball budget and spending is larger, it’s hard to argue we aren’t putting more into our basketball than you guys or most of CUSA. It will be one of the best jobs in new CUSA.
That building is ugly as shit.
And I’ve seen your current facilities as a member of the media. Please don’t write home about it.

That’s crazy talk. There is no way it has to be the size of a WALK IN closet.
I think SJ thinks that those transfers and JUCOs get to bring the trophies and banners from their old school to ECU - since they can’t seem to get any of them on their own.
Actually it was ESPN’s recruiting coordinator. He’s a former D1 head coach, and the article was insider pay material. “Some blogger”, we know how you love you some ESPN recruiting seems you’d have a little more respect for him as much as you cited his grades of your recruits, well at least their JR year grades before he dropped them…

Well that same guy loved Mike Thorne, so fuck you.
He went 7-22 his final year and didn’t have his contract renewed. He has the most wins in JSU history at 95 with most wins in a season at 20. He coached there for 8 years meaning the other 7 seasons he averaged 9 or 10 games a season. Even Major is better than that.
Eamonn Brennan joined ESPN.com in 2009 after several years of blogging at Yahoo! and other places around the Internet. The Iowa native lives in Chicago with his roommates, his dog, and a crippling addiction to caffeine.
That’s Brennan’s bio on ESPN. Compared to the writer of this crap that started this thread Lapante’s credentials look like gold. Obviously he had a tough head coaching job but if owns the all time wins record, and wins in a season record at a school that tells me he had a lot of success relatively speaking. The fact he has 20 years of coaching experience and being in places like the SEC or a head coach or a current job focusing on recruiting is a lot more qualifications than most of these hacks writing these articles and prognosticating.
The main difference in him and others making predictions is he could actually tell you who Akeem Richmond is and probably has seen him and knows that he’s the all time NC scoring leader and a lot about him. He knows Lebo brought him here even if he’s not in a class ranking, where as a guy like Garry Parrish with a daily radio show covering general sports and writing about several sports he doesn’t have a clue who Richmond is. For that reason alone Lapante’s opinion is worth noting.
