I donât want this to turn into an argument about who is better at steals between Henry and Basden as they are my two favorite 49ers of all time. However, everyone needs to remember that Eddie didnât start his Freshman season and ended up playing just 18.9 minutes per game, compared to Henry who played 30.2 straight off the bat. In fact, PH has averaged over 30 minutes per game in each of his four seasons and Eddie did that just once (senior season when he averaged 36).
Had Eddie played more earlier on, he still might have the record, but he doesnât and it belongs to Henry now.
My favorite stat of the night, there were 37 available defensive rebounds for Charlotte and we hauled in 35 of them. a Defensive Rebounding Percentage of 94.6. I was curious when I saw this to see how bad FAU is at getting offensive boards to see that they actually managed to let Middle Tennessee grab all 24 of the available defensive rebounds earlier. Man, I hope we see this FAU team in our first C-USA Tournament game.
Wonder how many steals PH would have against the competition Basden played against? Iâm speculating not as many as Eddie had.

Yea, damn shame he wouldnât get to pad his stats versus those awesome ECU, Tulane, So. Miss, and TCU teams of yesteryear.

Also, we should account for the fact that Basden played WITH better overall talent. Sure does make things easier.
Both were awesome, and as you said, Iâm glad Iâve gotten to witness both. I wish Henry could have had equal or greater team success as Eddie however.
I will be shocked since spanking teams, even bad ones, isnât something we do over the past 5 years.
Spanked.
5th time in 5 years. I was shocked when I looked at the score.
Me too. I thought it was a misprint at first. Just not use to seeing something like that. Anyway, itâs nice to kick someoneâs a$$ for once.

Yea, damn shame he wouldnât get to pad his stats versus those awesome ECU, Tulane, So. Miss, and TCU teams of yesteryear.
So you are saying the overall competition is better now? I beg to differ.
I take you point there were bad teams at the bottom of CUSA1. There are also very bad teams at the bottom of CUSA3 and there were in the A10.
I also take and agree with 49r9râs point that Basden was way less prone to take chances trying for steals and missing them, leaving himself out of position and his team mates to play 4 on 5 while he recovered.
Itâs just an opinion. Any opinion on here except perhaps âMajor and Odom suck and Judy holds the prick while they do itâ seems to cause a shât storm.
I have repeatedly heard that Woods will be the point guard next year. If so, why doesnât he get minutes there this year? When Henry isnât running point Brax is, and Dorn even seems to bring the ball up more often that Woods.
Iâm not convinced that Woods is a point guard, but Iâm not convinced that anyone else remaining on the team is either.
It will take time for Keysh to get comfortable at PG. Remember, he never played PG before. At Northside, he was a shooter and dribble-drive scorer. For the last 2 years, he and Demery had the luxury of a fabulous PG (Davon Bell, now at Presby) who could pass & create like Sean Colson, so it will naturally take Keysh some time to get comfortable with running the floor AND taking his shots. We need him to shoot more.
Hopefully this three game home-stand is enough to ease Sully back into the college game. I hope he can be an X-Factor down the stretch. I think most of the board (myself included) has reached the consensus that the staff should be removed barring a miracle run to the NCAA Tournament, emphasis on miracle. But the fact is, in our five C-USA losses, weâve been trailing by an average of 3.6 points at the end of regulation. I know Sully was playing in garbage time, against a garbage team, but it was his first college game in almost two years and he was efficient from the gate. Donât know what kind of defender he is, but having him available will open up a lot of things for us. Willie and Thorne can increase their aggressiveness, T-Will (who had a great game last night) wonât have to guard power forwards as often. We really could become a new team with Sully in the rotation, fingers crossed.
BTW, 37 points was the largest lead of the Major[Odom] era, surpassing a 29 point lead held against Lamar in 2012.
Was glad to see Sullivan play last night, definitely needs to get in better game shape but he did look decent in the post, yes FAUâs post defense was terrible but I thought Sullivan took his time and didnât force his shot he got unlike our other 2 post players. Thorne has got to get stronger going to the rim, he was able to save himself a couple times with tip ins but there is no reason a guy of his size should miss so many shots within 5 ft.
Woods played pg quite a bit last night when Henry wasnât in the game and I thought he ran the offensive fairly efficiently. I wish they wouldâve gone to Woods in the post more often when he had the shorter guard defending him as I thought he could hit that turnaround jumper over him all night given the opportunity.
One more thing on Sullivan, I know some had mentioned dissension in the team but the entire team was generally happy to see Sullivan go in the game and even more pumped when he hit two straight in the post.
Lastly, this fanbase and Halton Arena needs a shot of adrenaline bad whether we are winning are not. We are competing for entertainment $$'s in the community and the atmosphere at the game last night is not something I would pay to go to if I was a casual fan. We went on a 9-0 run and the band started playing the fight song and maybe 20 people stood up and clapped for the team very few of which were students and most of the ones that did were in 103 and 102 (102 may have been grad students I couldnât really tell). Iâm not sure what we need to do other than winning more games but we need to find a way to make Halton Arena fun to be at and an event you donât want to miss.
He bodied up their big fairly well in the post, granted he wasnât the most skilled big but Sullivan was giving up an inch or two and quite a few pounds.
All season long, with maybe the exception of the UNT game, other teams have forced us to play their game. Last night was what happens when we are able to impose our will and style on another team.
Thatâs good and bad. It shows that we can destroy a team if they let us get deep post position and dont effectively stop the feed passes, or do such a terrible job on the boards. BTW, most of that looked like positioning issues on their part. If theyâd hold their ground and push our post guys out the way any other team does⌠maybe try to double the worst matchups. Bad coaching there.
What it highlights to me is that our guard play (minus BO, who still really needs to show up again - not sure if heâs hurt or what), is good enough to win, regularly. Itâs not just the FT line where our bigs have been letting us down. Too often they arenât effective at either end of the court. Makes me think Izundu is potentially an even bigger deal to this squad than he would be on many others. And it also means that Sully and Benas could make a difference.
But back to good feels: I was giggling at that lopsided score - what was it, 79-42 at one point? I cant remember us hammering a team that badly since probably A&T many years back. Or definitely that 95-55 lead we had on Miami in the 2000-2001 season. It feels good to feel sorry for the other team for a change.
I just want to say âI told you soâ to everyone who said Mike Thorne Jr wouldnt repeat his âstart strong and then taper off into mediocrityâ like he did last year.
