Through 3 FBS games our offense has managed 23 points.
Fans, defense, kalif, etc great, got it. Sure.
It is infuriating to watch this offense be stagnant because of poor qb decisions (on and off the field). We effectively have no quarterback. We can talk FCS recruits, startup, whatever, but weāve had 4 recruiting classes now and have been a CUSA team for a while now.
Weāve built an FBS defense, WR core, and RB tandem, thereās no excuse that the most important position on the field is miles behind them.

We have been Cusa for 4 games and one recruiting cycle. If we look the same next year I will join your camp of infuriation.
As for the qb positionā¦ In theory it should be easy enough to fill the qb position. It is not. As you see in the nfl, there are only soo many guys servicable or great at each level. We may not have our guy yet. Or we may have him and he needs more coaching and experience. Either way I agree the only way to find out is to ride with Barden and lean on the run game heavily.
I would not have thought this last year but the pass game is not fbs ready. We have the atheletes to be opportunistic but the defense will need to sell out on the run. Giving our qbās larger windows for passes. We need big doese of KP and Bouie to be semi competative. The Niner need to run, control the clock and play defense, much like the local NFL team does.

We had the best defensive player on the field last night.
We had the most dominant unit on the field last night in our D.
We also had QB play that resulted in a 1.96 QBR. 11-34, 87 yards and 6 picks. That is unacceptable at any level.
We dropped a punt that resulted in their only offense TD.
As bad as it all was, if Lee hits a wide open Duke we win the game.
We lost to a team we should have beatenā¦ That will never be acceptable to me, sadly it is for some of you.
The āFireā comments were said in jest to vent frustration.
However, I really do believe that our OC cost us that game by not going to Phillips more inside the FAU 40. IMO, if he had, we had a high likelihood of forcing OT, winning 13-10, or winning 14-10, in that order.
And OL injuries or not I still do not understand not bringing in a vet QB a year or two ago. We are so deficient at that position that itās painful to watch.
My question is, whatās gonna change on offense for next season, the season we are supposedly building towards? I can tell you right now that the defense is going to take a serious hit. IIRC we are going to lose Dozier, CCM, Devon Johnson, and someone elseā¦ Maybe it was Middleton?
Sorry, I get the 2016 Bowl eligibility thing. But Iāve seen way too much hoops āplaying for next yearā that never works out. Play to win now. Itās all about momentum.
Also, can we stop scapegoating the OL for bad QB play? Yes they are banged up and protections failed, but there are a lot of college QBs who make plays to overcome that. We never do. Never.

We have none. The thing is though, part of that falls on the oc. Matt is good enough to be a decent qb on a run first team. Mullen wants this to be a pass first team, which Iāll never understand considering we donāt have an elite qb.

i agree with this entire post. our defense played so good last night and khalif is a beast, absolutely a pro and we coulndāt tailor the offense to fit the situation. 3rd. and 6 and we pass it twice?
i also have to say, larry is a beast also. like four tackles for loss last night. he was an fcs recruit and is outplaying his expectations, the qbās can do the same.

With #3 and #7 as the focus our QBās sole responsibility should be MANAGE the game and protect the ballā¦ 3 FBS games our QBs have turned the ball over 17 times. 17ā¦ 17. Thatās a bad season
Donāt understand having Lee McNeil take so many snaps. Doesnāt make any sense. Mattās clearly the better QB.

Weāre playing FBS football and had a chance to win the game. How many of us thought we would be in a position to win the game with less than 2 minutes on the clock?
As for next year, isnt there an upperclassman QB transferring in? Maybe Iām thinking of another position, but I thought the QB from A&T or NCCU was coming here? That would only be short term fix but its something
The QB is Hasaan Klugh. He is number 16 on the sidelines. Eligible to play next year. Is supposed to have a big arm but raw. The year off probably doesnāt hurt. He has to feel good about his chances for playing time next year. The season is still young and we still may see someone develop this season.
Perspective: We are 2-2 and should be 3-1. I predicted we would be 1-3 right now. Glad I was wrong and we have looked better on defense than I could have ever imagined. I am also proud of our fans. I feel like we are starting to build a football culture. It takes time. I do think if we would run the ball and clock a little more we would give ourselves a better chance. I thought that was why Lee was starting. He appears to manage the game (clock) better than Matt. Will be interesting to see who starts next week. Draw a name out of a hat? Regardless, I will be there and I hope you guys will be as well.
The coaches are to blame for the mess we are in at qb. The way Mullen has switched qbās this year will not allow any one of them to gain the confidence needed to play the position. We know that Matt and Lee are not FBS qbās. Barden has the talent to lead the team and is a redshirt freshman. Why Lambert would allow Mullen to create the mess he has created this year makes me think that this will be Mullens last year. As far as Lambert is concerned, you replace your DC and then your OC and the next to go is you. Our play calling is horrific and the qbās are struggling and the same man is in charge of both. Something has to happen before next year or we will be in for another long year.
Great atmosphere last night, disappointing result and though some criticism is due, I wonāt complain this season. My only concern is the QB rotation isnāt working and while Matt might not be high or mid FBS level, he has the most experience and I just think some stability is needed there (desperately).
Said all along and I wonāt change simply because of a disappointing loss: this season is about competing, next season is about wins. If we steal one this season in conference, itās just extra icing on the cake.
It definitely hurts not having all the starters on the Oline. But I am no fan of Mullen and his fast, pass happy offense. We were having success running the ball but would abandon it plays at a time. With poor pass protection, pouring rain and below average QB it is just a disaster to be pass happy. Lee is not the answer at QB, I prefer Barden or Johnson. I hope Joe Thompson coming in is the real deal. Even with the terrible QB play we still had a chance thanks to defense and Phillips but the brilliant coaching staff decided to not use Phillips once we got to 3rd and six.
i donāt know what to expect from thompson but he doesnāt have any other offers which worries me. schools like bc looked at him but didnāt offer so my guess is the staff is counting on klugh to be the starter next season.
We were 10 point underdogs and we lost by 10. I personally had an awesome time at the game. The stadium under the lights is gorgeous and for the second time this season the crowd was excellent. I hope it continues for the entire season even as we embark on what will likely be a 2-10 year.
About the QB play, not much to say, itās quite awful. Iām not sure Lee deserves the playing time but itās not as if the other two can do better (did yāall already forget the atrociousness that was the MTSU game?). I think the staff is constantly trying to evaluate if any of those three guys can play at this level and I think we are unfortunately learning that no, they cannot.
By the way, just a little tip for whomever is in charge of the graphics on the jumbotron. We are now in year three of football and we are still completely worthless at having any sort of organized chant. How about, and this might blow their minds so Iām going to try to make it really simple, you have a graphic with an arrow that points towards the student side and in big bold letters underneath it says āFORTYā and then it is immediately followed by an arrow pointed towards the alumni side saying, wait for it, āNINERSā and then maybe repeat the sequence back and forth for 30 seconds after a big play. What a concept right???

I love that you specify this because letās be honest, those people have no clue. It would be excellent after a big 3rd down stop or maybe immediately after scoring a TD and before or as we are getting ready to kick off.
If we beat ODU, I will be happy with the season. We are going to finally have a good conference rivalry there so letās start by putting them in the hole.
