Dream Theater? Impressive… Are you a musician?
No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!!

I first heard of Dream Theater when Pull Me Under got air play and then a friend of mine loaned me a few of their albums about a year ago and that’s when I finally realized these guys rock!! Although I’m not to crazy about the keyboards, overall they are a very talented band. It’s nice to hear something that’s different that actually rocks but isn’t stale like what you get on the radio these days.

I agree. You’ll never hear them on radio (except for satellite) anyway because radio stations don’t play “songs” (more like epics) that last for 8, 12, or 20 minutes!

Toss Shaggy out and that’s a pretty kickass list. I’m not sure about the new 'Mats song yet, but I love me some Paul “Rock’s last bastard” Westerberg. Nice to see another Spoon fan. Stooges too (I love Iggy. He’s the man). Also, it’s nice to remember what Liz sounded like before she sold out.

Speaking of that, has anyone seen Nelli Furtado’s new song/video? I caught about 2 minutes of it the other day. Garbage. Her style wasn’t exactly my taste (well, i did kinda like “sh!t on the radio”), but at least she had one and could sing. Now, she’s just another trashy vixen gyrating to a crappy R&B beat while some clown raps behind her like she’d give him the time of day. Sell out or phase out, I guess.

It is absolutely horrendous… But she looks incredibly hot… I watch the video with the sound muted…

Blue Öyster Cult (the ultimate thinking man’s band with some amazing early stuff before “The Reaper” that nobody has ever heard)

and based on sheer number of albums and mp3s but in no particular order:

Dixie Dregs/Dregs/Steve Morse (a guitar god among mere mortals)
Queen
Led Zeppelin
Allman Brothers
Beatles (Revolver is amazing)
Santana (She’s Not There on Moonflower is the best cover ever)
The Doors
Emerson Lake & Palmer (a bit pretentious at times but some great stuff)
Yes (started losing me with 90125)
Genesis (lost me after Abacab)
CSNY
Billy Joel
Trans-Siberian Orchestra/Savatage
Deep Purple
Steely Dan
Simon & Garfunkel
Bob Seger
Acoustic Alchemy
Gordon Lightfoot

No better drunk punk band ever.
No better drunk punk band ever.
If you guys weren’t the definition of “punk”, I’m not sure what is.

I won’t be in town for that Cordova show next weekend, sorry I never responded, I kept on forgetting.

Um…

My favorite band is probably digger.

Iron and Wine is okay, but the Shins rule. Especially when they were Scared of Chaka. Because I never really cared that much for flake music. But Scared of Chaka, they rule.

As far as ska, it starts and ends with the Plug. Mustard Plug rules.

When it comes to the classics, nothing is better than Elvis and Frank. Except Buddy Holly, but his catalogue is much too small. Buddy Rules.

As for the British Invasion, the Who are clearly the best band to come out of england before the 70s. Then the rolling stones and the kinks.

Country and Western, the Highwaymen (except Kris, what a punk) and Patsy Cline. How anyone could not like patsy I don’t know.

The 60s in the US were awesome, cause you have the beach boys, and the stooges. Which were both responsible for the Ramones to be so awesome. The ramones are probably the greatest US punk rock band of the 70s. I love the clash and the sex pistols, but the buzz****s were the best punk band of the 70s.

Led Zeppelin is good and so is Sabbath, but I never really got into that whole overblown arena rock, so hard rock in that vein and era pretty much begins and ends with those two bands for me. I can listen to Maiden and Priest, but just not my thing.

With the 80s hardcore explosion, I love Bad Religion. Skatepunk rules. I don’t care for the politics of most hardcore, but bad religion rules. Minor Threat is good and so are the Misfits. Suicidal tendancies are awesome too.

I love Bon Jovi too. They were the ultimate hair band. They ruled and SWW is still in my CD player.

Then there was Du and the Replacements. The only thing good about MN. God I love the REplacements. Alex Chilton is one of my favorite songs of all time. Sonic Youth made arguably the greatest album of the 80s with Daydream Nation.

Anthrax is the best thrash band. No questions asked.

Love Nirvana, soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, tad, coffinbreak, pearl jam, fastbacks, all of it. but portland was better. Everclear and Skiploader. Two of my favorite bands. From Can Through String and Sparkle and Fade are both wicked.

As for emo, I never really got into Embrace or Rites of Spring or any of that jazz. Leatherface and Jawbreaker, that’s the best. I like Tiltwheel a lot.

Pop Punk, Blink-182 and Digger. Powerbait = best pop-punk album of all time.

When it comes to jam bands, I can’t stand them. I’d rather listen to bluegrass, and when I’m listening to bluegrass, it’s gotta be Doc Watson as the best.

Other bands that I love include:

Dillinger Four
They Might Be Giants
Alkaline Trio
Superchunk
Archers of Loaf
Superdrag
THE GET UP KIDS
88 Fingers Louie (the single greatest Hardcore band of any era ever)
Snuff
Funeral Oration
Sponge
Prozzack
Minutemen

Charlotte students (at least 3 out of the 4) The Sammies are having their debut album CD release party tonight, togas optional (seriously). It is at Visualite, playing with The Whigs (who are suppossed to be good too). Doors at 9, it is 18+, cover $8, The Sammies CD will cost $10. To get there take 77 South, then exit 10B then it is 2.3 miles on the left.

Support local music, especially local Niners with a record deal.

The Whigs are a great band from Athens… Go check them out.

Yea, they were one of Rolling Stone’s 10 bands to watch for 2006, they should be good. They are opening, I’d guess they will be on stage about 9:30.

Really??? I have hung out with those guys on the Rockboat(they won a battle of the bands to get on). They are great guys.

That’s what I was told, probably a shameless attempt to get one more person at the show, but I believe it anyway. The Sammies are good too, they sort of blew up last year, they had a lot of record company offers but stayed local. They are from Albemarle. Nice guys from my brief interactions with them, they are relatively new but have cleaned up every “best band” award in the city.

Not a shameless attempt, they are legit: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/9524571/the_whigs

that is huge for them. Parker is my boy!! Very exciting stuff!! Whoever goes give, me a report.

It was a fun show, my last minute toga was a little weak, but I guess it passed. The Whigs played first, they were really good. They had American flag togas and masks on for a little while. My girlfriend managed to score their CD for $2.25.

The Sammies were good too, they had The Whigs on stage for a song with them. It is crazy how many people in the audience knew the words to their stuff, their CD doesn’t come out for like 2 weeks, last night was the first chance to get it.

Both bands were good, the cover was relatively cheap and PBR was $2, so it was a good night.

You have good taste son. Love all of those. How could the Replacements make a bad song if they named it Alex [f’ing] Chilton?? Speaking of the man, I saw him, in Atlanta. Like 10 feet away. I will never wash my eyeballs again. Even if he did look like the Beach Boys. Alex flippin Chilton. I can die now.

And if you haven’t ever heard Daydream Nation, then damn… I’m sorry. I can’t help you.
