Fearne dismissed

I didn’t hate Fearne, but its a business these days and he didn’t move the needle. I am happy as it appears the Chancellor and the Board have higher expectations. Hopefully, we find the right coach.

We should have kept him as interim coach for the past 3 years.

If they had not fired these three then people would be asking how we can afford NOT to fire them.

we simply need to make better hires.

Even with that though it seems like there is always going to be a buy out eventually unless your coach retires at your school.

Mike Hill should be the one paying the buyouts for these bad hires out of his buyout

and another thing, although her job is probably safe for several reasons, Tomekia Reed is not making much progress in another sport that the Niners should be doing much better in

Yes, Reed will get one more season.

The Charlotte Observer doesn’t even cover our games or even report our scores. However I GUARANTEE this will be on the front page of the sports tomorrow, if not on the actual front page of the paper. If Charlotte wins, it’s crickets. If Charlotte “bleeds” it leads. Disgusting. :face_vomiting:

The Observer has sports journalists who cover the Panthers and the Hornets, plus local high schools. McClatchy has all of the college reporters based in the Triangle via the News & Observer.

Fowler is always at front of the line to throw us under the bus

It’s too bad they won’t pay Hunter Bailey to keep the info coming, he tweeted at least on one occasion during the conference tourney that there would be no story in the Observer and it was not his fault.

Weren’t we selected to finish worst in the conference this year? We got 5th and made it to the semis in the tournament. I think the problem is more to do with NIL than it is to do with Fearne.

No, our NIL was fine. People saying that are uninformed and there is no excuse for that roster to have been picked last…..again, very uninformed voters on that.

Actually, based on where most of our 2025 transfers came from, no reason to think they were going to morph into winners.

Possibly. But I really liked the guy and I felt he understood the game of basketball quite well. I feel he was short staffed and incapable of grabbing players he wanted due to NIL.

He stressed the importance of the Hornets Nest Trophy. He had his son join him as a graduate assistant. He was also quite determined to stay in Charlotte and wouldn’t have left if we ever gave him the resources to succeed.

It feels like we’re looking for either a) a coach that has ties to Charlotte so he doesn’t leave or b) a coach that has had success with basketball. But those options have won the CBI recently (as did we) or made it to the NCAAT in a worse conference. None of their resumes are particularly better than Fearne.

Individual talent though could be seen. Particularly the numbers put up by Mingo, Harrison, etc

I liked him every time I interacted with him. Nice guy. He had a lot of NIL money to assemble the roster he wanted. They didn’t win. Lost games they shouldn’t have. Pissed away leads constantly. Attendance was abysmal. The system wasn’t fun to watch. What’s worse than losing? An apathetic fan base. No reason to think ticket sales and donations increase with another year of a stale team.

Never like to see a good person lose their job but it had to be done, in my opinion. Need donations, ticket sales, butts in seats.

Part of it for me is the Sanchez → Fearne was the only coaching change I’ve been around for really. It was a pretty lackluster coaching change because nothing particularly changed. But that one hot ECU game that I camped for will be a memory I’ll have for a long time. Fearne was a bit aspect of that happening. It really sucks all the players left that year. But that’s how I remember Fearne.

I’m sure a new coach will increase ticket sales to the first few games next season though

I can’t believe this argument again. We were picked last bc our staff sucks, and it’s hard to predict in preseason due to nil era. Our schedule was set up to stack wins and we went below 500 ooc and 500 in a weak aac.

This. My sentiments exactly.
