Fearne dismissed

Fearne didn’t bring the offense we need/want. To have kept him as an Assoc’t or what ever would have been a formula for disaster. Bottom line: He didn’t bring the game the current AAC required or that we demanded. He had talent this year. Hope they’re around next year for a coach who will use them!

I’m not surprised by our 2025-26 preseason pick. Finished last in AAC in 2024-25. First and 4th leading scorers transferred while 2nd and 3rd exhausted eligibility. Top freshman recruit decided to decommit and sign with an ACC school. Had really just one incoming transfer of any note while top JUCO recruit decided to flip to UTEP. Staff turnover as two assistants left for opportunities elsewhere. Can certainly understand why the other league coaches voted the way they did.

Those two last second flips probably cost him his job. Left him scrambling to fill unexpected holes.

FWIW, Cross barely got off the pine this season, so expect him to hit the portal next month. Will probably get a good look by Haase at UNCG.

Blackwell had decent numbers for a team that finished next to last and failed to make the CUSA tournament. Would have been a serviceable backup to Mingo.

Very classy and professional response from Fearne. Wish him the best in his future.

What a legend

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, obviously. My concern is we may have let coach go too early. Way too many success stories that took place after a slow start in the first several years. I have to remain confident that the people that get to make these decisions are making good ones and in the best interest of our University.

Would be really hard to not like Fearne as a person. Stand up guy. Wishing him nothing but the best in the future.

He’s been here 8 years. It is what it is. Great guy. Mediocre coach at best

Fair assessment. As HC of the NBL’s Cairns Taipans for 9 seasons, he was 124-128 during regular season and 5-7 in playoff games.

He was only head coach for 3.

Yeah but was an assistant under ron and running the same system

Offense was not the same system. D was not a true pack line either that was run before

Either way, was not a good HC and was lead assistant under ron, who was not a good coach. Great guy and I wish him well but glad we moved on

He also promised a system with higher tempo and it never happened. While it was different the main construct of it was the same all 8 years

Scoring average was up almost 7 PPG over Ron’s last year.

I don’t believe he is a bad coach. Funny how Wes Miller, who apparently is a candidate, has a record that looked the same as Fearne’s this year and also got fired.

Trashing a guy who clearly worked hard and had a team that played hard is not real cool. If we fire coaches every two to three years we will never return to being relevant.

Just one guys opinion who has been going to Niner games since 1986

Trashing? I think this fanbase continues to be incredibly tame, I don’t see any trashing online like at other schools.

No one is trashing him. We universally like the man and stated so. Is he a terrible coach? Nord, he’s not. He’s mediocre. Miller, while not great at Cincinnati, had a 100-72 record there, way better than fearne, and has driven to be a high level recruiter and winner at the non p4 level. Cincinnati is in a tough position bc they aren’t near top of big 12 in resources so the move to big 12 may have been too big for both but comparing his resume to fearne’s is silly

FWIW, Miller’s was 60-92 (39-46 SoCon) during his first 5 years at UNCG, with one .500 season the best and 9-22 the worst. Did participate in the CBI during a 15-19 season. Finally made the NCAAT during 7th season.
