Finally the Appholes can shutup!

I also noticed this in Scott’s Gold Mine article:

ā€œCharlotte’s 2014 schedule is full and has one open date in 2015 (when the 49ers join C-USA). But that date is taken by a game that will probably be an FBS opponent (likely SEC).ā€

Is this the Tennessee game that has been hinted at?
Lambert mentioned an SEC game on that radio interview the other day as well. I think he said something about everyone ā€œknowing now that we are playing a team from the SEC (?) and the Big 12ā€ (Kansas State). I thought I heard it wrong the first time (thought he maybe said ACC? ie Va. Tech) so I listened to it again and he did in fact say SEC. So, I assume maybe this is the long-rumored Tennessee game. ???
Yeah that was my thought when I heard it.

Let’s make it happen! C’mon though guys, a 2 for 1?..
Let’s make it happen! C’mon though guys, a 2 for 1?..
I would like to see a H-H-N personally.

I think if we had it in BoA it would be a relatively even split and it would draw more than either of our stadiums could hold.

I agree that App has more to gain by playing a game in Charlotte than we have to gain by playing in Boone. However, we are not yet at a place to suggest a 2 for 1 to any FBS team. We would be crazy to put it on the table and App would be crazy to accept it.

Simple solution, don’t schedule them. We don’t need the away game in Boone and our home attendance doesn’t need any help.

Nor do we as far as attendance goes, but it would probably be more beneficial for us to play in Charlotte than you all would in Boone, especially from a recruiting standpoint. Not much high school talent for you guys to make an impression on in the High Country.
But I think a H-H-N would be great! I see no reason a game in BOA couldn’t draw at least 45-50,000. Anything to draw attention away from UNC-CH and NCSU is a win in my book…

This is reason enough to play.

Battle for the Trucker Maps Trophy?

This

ā€œI think it would be great for football on this side of the state without (North) Carolina or N.C. State involved,ā€ Cobb wrote. ā€œI also think it would be great for future fundraising, tickets sales and (public relations) for both of us.ā€

Agreed. I don’t want to travel to Boone. What a dump. At least Georgia Southern would be near Savannah to visit.

I’ll just say this: I sure am glad way back in the 70’s Lee Rose didn’t think ā€œWow, if we schedule Davidson, we really are throwing them a bone here. I’d rather not do that.ā€

We don’t have to travel hours into the wilderness to beat Davidson every year. I also have higher aspirations for our football program than our basketball program… not to mention there are a lot more games in basketball to waste.

I think a series with App would be fun in football. Its the only sport they really care about and at least they have some history there. Granted its just shitty FCS history that no one on earth cares about but still.

Lets do it.

But not in Boone. God not Boone

Georgia Southern is about an hour from Savannah, and is also known as the gnat capital of the world. I’m not gonna get into it with you, but referring to Boone as a dump is ignorant. Perhaps it’s not your cup of tea, but we don’t exactly dream about trips to Harrisburg…

I don’t get the dislike for Boone. I do think App fans overhype it (but almost all college students have bias for where they went to college), but it is a fine town. It’s not the Aspen of the east that I’ve seen a few claim, but it is a very nice little mountain town. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live there post-college unless I was retired, but I’d love a road trip up there.

#1 Davidson has never made a final four, they can’t have finished 3rd.

Davidson had really fallen off though by the late 70’s when we started playing them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sApg2PlD7T0
that video talks a lot about the situation. It really is oddly similar to the situation we face with the Apps today. I think we should play the apps every year. A rivalry would do nothing but grow both programs in this state, and in this region.

ā€œThe idea that Prestige is too valuable an item to risk when playing a potential rival is simply not a valid argument, the true value of sports competition is facing the challenge of a worthy opponentā€ It’s from that video.

Play the apps, and play them as often as we can.

In 1966 22 teams played in the tournament and Davidson played for 3rd place in the East Region losing to Duke.

I think it would be fair to say that our series with the Cats has not been significant to our program. It certainly isn’t the crosstown game that Cincy-Xavier is. Few people in Mecklenburg County that are not already going to our games show up for this one. It makes for an easy away game and we usually win, but those are the only reasons I can see to play them.

Playing App in football might give us a ā€œrivalryā€ and we could use a few of those, but staying up there in the fall can be difficult and expensive, and it really is a 2-star hotel town. You hope for clean, because nice is not available. I don’t think a 2 for 1 is necessarily fair to them, but when it comes to achieving their goals it would be an okay deal.

I want Home and Homes with ECU, not App.
I want a rivalry with them, not a SoCon Belt School.
