When we originally talked in 2010 for a 2014/15 series, your school requested the home game first. We already had a full road schedule for 2014 so we couldnāt do it. Our AD wonāt do anything less than 6 home games in a year since the program covers all expenses and then some with six home games, plus our fanbase demands it.
2 for 1 isnāt happening on either end. 1-1-1 maybe.

show me some evidence. you apps sure are good at changing the story when evidence comes to light, or when we meet a goal you said never would happen, like selling out our stadium.
Playing in Boone gets us nothing
Playing in Charlotte benefits them
A game would draw attention away from UNC/State
They are Sunbelt, we should aim higher
Im ok playing them, but if we can hook up with ECU I would prefer that. However ECU probably is thinking the same thing about us and they actually do have a history of playing the ACC schools. If we want to build an instate rivalry and ECU wonāt have it, App is the only choice.
While I understand where the Charlotte fans are coming from that donāt want it to be an every year thing due to the different Conference levels, I disagree. Some games need to be played every year, Marshall-West Virginia (CUSA v. Big XII), Ga Tech v. Georgia (ACC v. SEC), Florida State v. Florida (ACC v. SEC), along with too many others to list, benefit both programs. The buzz, atmosphere, TV exposure, and attendance will be huge from both fan bases. Unfortunately there isnāt a rivalry yet between us and ECU (although I want to play them as often as possible as well), there definitely is between Charlotte and ASU.
These are the types of games that recruits want to play in, and just my .02, but I think both of us will be elevated if this happens (whether or not there is a 8 or 9 game conference schedule)
they went out of their way to keep us out of the SC, while trying to go FCS. Frack 'em.
I donāt want to play them.
I didnāt know they kept us out of SoCon. I was not reading the board back then. Is this true, as in is there actual documented evidence (not doubting you TinTin just wondering if there is documented proof. That would really irk me if I find out this is 100% accurate.

Any app fan will tell you that. We were clearly using the socon as a stepping stone to FBS though. Canāt really blame them. But as 49erFN said, look how that worked out!
Where the heck is Gonzo. Donāt we need his wisdom on this topic??
I for one am all for playing app. I think the intensity on this topic shown just today reflects the overall interest in the general populace. I think itās a guaranteed sellout at both home fields. And once we expand we are going to really need those sellouts!
I know so many people want a rivalry that theyāre willing to jump on anything, but donāt bang the ugliest chick in the room just because sheās available.

I think if we had it in BoA it would be a relatively even split and it would draw more than either of our stadiums could hold.
Agreed. I donāt want to travel to Boone. What a dump. At least Georgia Southern would be near Savannah to visit.
And Boone is near Blowing Rock and Grandfather mountain. Your disdain for App almost seems forced.
Yes, but we didnāt start playing them until 1979 (IIRC). So, actually AT THAT TIME we were probably doing them a favor and Iād say we still are MOST of the time considering our 27-10 record against them.
I stay very quiet on here, but I look at it like this:
Suggesting that the Davidson rivalry isnāt good is silly to me. Itās a basketball game that is consistently looked forward to for both fan-bases, and personally I love beating the snot out of them. At this point in Charlotte basketball, itās a favor that they play us. Iām sorry, it is. Our program right now, in the present time, is below Davidson in regards of success. Forget tradition and past success.
A rivalry with Appalachian State with football is common sense to me. Who are we going to get that will be a huge game? The chain is like this:
NC State desperately wants to be rivals with Chapel Hill, who donāt care enough about football to worry about it (as they obviously have Duke for basketball) and look down at State as it is.
ECU would LOVE to be a chief rival with NC State, but State views themselves as above ECU and would not like to be seen as the main non-conference rival of ECU.
Charlotte and App would both love to have a chief rivalry with ECU, but ECU is not going to do that with two new FBS programs.
Charlotte and App should be linked together. We are both transitioning to FBS football in the same phase of realignment. While I believe Charlotte has more potential than App in terms of growth, I personally donāt see the jump being higher than the AAC. There is no reason for us, a program that has not played a down, for us to have fans who view a rivalry with App as something that would hurt our brand. Just my humble opinion.

We went to the CAA and SoCon and asked them to let us be football-only members. They said no, they wanted us all sports and we said no thanks.

I agree with most of this. I think for football, app is a natural fit. Both schools have no history playing any football that matters. Close proximity. Fans that dont like each other. Lets do it

App led the charge against say ātheyāre using us as a stepping stoneā while they were doing the same thing to their conference brethren.
Screw them. Iād take them off the schedule in everything.

NO way are we beneath Davidson even now. You say to forget tradition and success, so what are you looking at then? Davidson has exactly ZERO at-large NCAA bids EVER. They had one great run, 5 years ago and we even beat them that year. I understand someone who still thinks Stephen Curry is at Davidson thinking this, but he is not. 27-10 including a winning record EVEN over the last few years against them. We punked them in their own gym last season. There is no basis for Davidson being āabove usā even now unless you are still being blinded by that one NCAA run and if thats the case, I guess George Mason is above us as well.
