Finally the Appholes can shutup!

As it stands today, Davidson has a greater name recognition than us. Its just a fact. They play in march. We dont. It doesnt matter how they get there

I stay very quiet on here, but I look at it like this:

Suggesting that the Davidson rivalry isn’t good is silly to me. It’s a basketball game that is consistently looked forward to for both fan-bases, and personally I love beating the snot out of them. At this point in Charlotte basketball, it’s a favor that they play us. I’m sorry, it is. Our program right now, in the present time, is below Davidson in regards of success. Forget tradition and past success.

A rivalry with Appalachian State with football is common sense to me. Who are we going to get that will be a huge game? The chain is like this:

 1. NC State desperately wants to be rivals with Chapel Hill, who don’t care enough about football to worry about it (as they obviously have Duke for basketball) and look down at State as it is.
 2. ECU would LOVE to be a chief rival with NC State, but State views themselves as above ECU and would not like to be seen as the main non-conference rival of ECU.
 3. Charlotte and App would both love to have a chief rivalry with ECU, but ECU is not going to do that with two new FBS programs.

Charlotte and App should be linked together. We are both transitioning to FBS football in the same phase of realignment. While I believe Charlotte has more potential than App in terms of growth, I personally don’t see the jump being higher than the AAC. There is no reason for us, a program that has not played a down, for us to have fans who view a rivalry with App as something that would hurt our brand. Just my humble opinion.
NO way are we beneath Davidson even now. You say to forget tradition and success, so what are you looking at then? Davidson has exactly ZERO at-large NCAA bids EVER. They had one great run, 5 years ago and we even beat them that year. I understand someone who still thinks Stephen Curry is at Davidson thinking this, but he is not. 27-10 including a winning record EVEN over the last few years against them. We punked them in their own gym last season. There is no basis for Davidson being “above us” even now unless you are still being blinded by that one NCAA run and if thats the case, I guess George Mason is above us as well.
Davidson has much more recognition than we do in the college basketball world at this point in time. It’s like casstommy said, it’s just a fact. I don’t like it, but it’s the truth. Just beating them does nothing change that in the national landscape. Now if we go dancing, then that will be a different story.

So what you’re saying is that the rivalry does nothing for us.

There’s a difference between looking down at someone and just not caring abut them.

#1 Davidson has never made a final four, they can’t have finished 3rd.

Davidson had really fallen off though by the late 70’s when we started playing them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sApg2PlD7T0
that video talks a lot about the situation. It really is oddly similar to the situation we face with the Apps today. I think we should play the apps every year. A rivalry would do nothing but grow both programs in this state, and in this region.
Ask a fairly knowledgeable hoops fan in the triangle what they know about our rivalry with Davidson and most won’t even know we play each other every year. Especially recruits.

Easy…the young kid who died in that room was my old business partners (and good friends) nephew…bad bad situation…

Carry on with the App bashing.

Heck, if playing App is THAT important, let’s just drop down top the Sun Belt Conference so we can call them a conference rival and play them every year.

Please, if we had been in the SoCon we probably would have been in the NCAA 2-3 times in the last 5 years as well. As I mentioned before, we’ve still been beating them more often than not and they have been dominating that league. Davidson has accomplished NOTHING since 2008 except living off of that year. The only people who know them better than us are the people who have just started watching college bball in the last 5 years.

clt yawns at appy state and suggests a 2 for 1 with Alabama.

We don’t need to do a 2 for 1 with them, anyone suggesting that is just being outrageous. Neither of us have done anything at the FBS level to demand that. As far as playing them, if we do, great, if we don’t, great. I’m not really worried about it either way.

I do find it funny that emails between Athletic Departments isn’t enough proof for their fans, but hearsay from so and so is. None of them have obviously played the phone game as children.

LOL

In the past decade, Davidson has been to 5 NCAA’s and 2 NITs with 3-5 record at the dance and a handful of wins in the NIT.

In the past decade, we’ve been to two NCAA’s with no wins, and 2 NIT’s.

By any objective measure, they have had a more successful decade than we have. I dont care what league they play in or what our record is against them. You dont hang banners for wins over Davidson. They get to the Dance. We don’t. You can claim we’d have gone more if we played in the SOCON, but we don’t. So lets just deal with reality.

Its as simple as that

On 610 this morning, it was stated that we really want to play app but we better be careful what we ask for. The point of the segment was good ooc games you want to see.

Schedule at Vandy. They pay $1 mil, & we can visit the Grand Ole Opry. I’m not into country music, but it might be cool.

Whatever you say----you could probably make the same case about NCAA appearances for someone out of the Pioneer league or MEAC as well. Out of that 3-5 Davidson record, all the wins were in one year. The others were 1st round exits. I think we’ve had a “handful of NIT wins” in the last decade as well (as if anyone cares about that). Thats the reality!..By your standards we should have just moved down to the lowest/easiest league possible so we “make the NCAAs” every year and we could then claim we’re better than anyone in the tough leagues that had less appearances than us…Good idea. LOL yourself.

::slight_smile:

Typical 610 bullshit.

You say things like “The others were first round exits” as if we have anything other than that to latch to. They have more NCAA success than we have had since 77. Its depressing as hell but its true.

I just dont get the dismissiveness some have of Davidson. I’d give my left nut to have the past decade they have. Anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves.

Agreed

I think, as a general rule, others tend to undersell our basketball success and we tend to slightly oversell it. I think we have had a helluva lot of success, but I wouldn’t put us in the top-30 programs of all time. My frustration is when other people don’t want to put us in the top-100. Hopefully, football will raise the overall profile of the school and people’s general awareness of our strong athletics department (soccer, golf, baseball, basketball, etc.) will also see an uptick.

Its a message board and everyone talks trash, I get that.
But Please don’t dismiss another school’s accomplishments (Davidson) compared to
us. It just makes our program looks even worse.

I’ve stated before and here again.
Charlotte, App and ECU should be on the same page regarding football.
We need to pool resources to lift all programs. It should be US against the
ACC, not US fighting each other. App vs Charlotte vs ECU games would be
a big event in North Carolina.

+1 Niners are a better all time program but Davidson wins the last decade. I’m ready for the tide to turn.
