Charlotte 49ers head football coach Brad Lambert promoted Charlie Skalaski to the programâs Special Teams Coordinator position in June, 2017. Skalaski filled the vacant coaching slot opened when defensive line coach Aaron Curry resigned.
Lambert is covering the defensive line.
Skalaski was already on âstaffâ as an analyst. Heâs just one of the 10 that can recruit now. Was his previous position replaced?
Iâm not sure we hired another analyst, but weâre fully staffed where it counts the most.

Have you watched the Niners offense?
But, in Mullenâs defense, maybe he applied because he thought we wanted a Coordinator that is Offensive instead of a Coordinator to actually run an offense.

We need to make a statement. Itâs not just whales and judyâs fault. They donât care about attendance and donations, but guaranteed a few banners and signs will ruffle some feathers. ECU is getting all kinds of press. I saw a massive âfire compherâ banner and their chancellor even made a statement about it. We need to do more than complain on a message board.
I just donât understand. How can we fall as far as weâve fallen, and our peers rise the way theyâve risen, and anybody involved with the department feel good about things.
I would love to pick one of their brains and just have a very honest conversation. Iâm sure thereâs stuff we donât know about, and I know their jobs are hard. In fact, they are really freaking hard, thatâs why in most places they are super competitive. I just want to know what they think. Lord if they would be more honest with us about things, we might be more forgiving. Instead we get #stealthAD

All of this is true. The issue is we have the EXACT SAME PEOPLE in the SAME positions for YEARS. There isnât an active desire to improve our situation. It is the very nature by which Judy runs the AD. While there are good people trying their best, the fact is their best hasnât been good enough and they have a leader that either actively or passively is perfectly fine with the results because she has a fundamental view of her role that differs from us and it is partly or mostly because her entire career is a product of title IX. As long as Judy thinks her job is the student athlete experience at the expense of all other goals then we will be in this position.
Her staff is undermanned but they make poor use of their resources. Her marketing department in some ways has their hands tied by her views on non-revenue sports, especially womenâs sports. The view that they deserve our support rather than attempting to build a reason to support them is at the very core of their issues. The unwillingness to go conquer Charlotte and the happiness with Harrisburg as a pocket of support indicates their extent of their vision. The 49er club stagnation has been a non-issue for us for years, even though the school is turning out more and more graduates. They take any detractors with $ or influence and attempt to make them âfriendsâ rather than dealing with the underlying issues, which they mostly succeed in and thereby mute the dissenters. The odd times when they protect their brand - see reluctance to work with alumni groups and unwillingness to use portajohns but then an out right recklessness with the brand, see shades of green, sloppy curtains, production issues. Lack of desire to fight through when roadblocks arise and just sloppy execution of tasks. A stunningly amazing lack of imagination. Total mismanagement of a mens basketball program that is borderline criminal when you look at contract handling. The mens program decline alone is a fire-able offense. And all of this rises to Philâs level who has been completely content to let it ride because he does not prioritize winning and simply wants athletics to not bother him and as long as the majority of their funding is guaranteed by student fees he is pretty much able to not concern himself with athletics as long as they keep their nose clean and the coaches donât rock the boat (see Lutz).
To fall as far as we have takes more than a few people not being good at their jobs. It takes a total disregard for a winning culture. The goals of our AD and the goals of much of this fan base, or what is left of it, is not aligned in the slightest.
The bad part about if they fire Lambert during the season is that Judy would make someone from the current staff the interim head coach. Knowing here, sheâd probably make Mullen the head coach
