Count me in X 3
Gotta make noise. Can’t just hope for things to happen
I don’t people think Hill is doing a great job but I don’t agree that he’s tanking us at the behest of Chapel Hill. I find that absolutely ridiculous.
Sanchez looked good on paper but sucked in practice. Fearne was a good replacement being that the douchebag Sanchez left in June, a fact that gets ignored.
Hill got played by Houston, shame on him for that. I Wasn’t a Healy fan or a Poggi fan. I think Albin is a really solid choice imho. Finally a reasonable adult in the room.
Woodard is solid. The rest of the sports are way down my list.
Regardless on the feelings of the quality of the coaches, we cannot be competitive with the operational budget that we have. The budget is one of the lowest in the AAC and is 100% because Mike cannot fundraise. Throw NIL into it and we are destined for the bottom until there is an AD change.
MIke has hired some new people in the Athletic Foundation which is the fund raising side of the business which should bring in result. You also have to remember that we are not getting our full share of the AAC payout yet either which does not help. All of the former CUSA schools are basically in the same group. Our fund raising group has never done a great job and only a few whales made donations at all. We finally have a group that is starting to work on corp downtown and some big money guys in Charlotte. The fund raising group got moved a year or so ago to the building with all fund raising which can tag off the list of different companies and people. The athletics group use to use their own lists which is small compared to the whole university. The new director of the university is tied into lots of old Charlotte money and is started to make a difference and helping with athletic.
I was told that Biff really ticked off several large donors in person over the two years along with not helping at all like he told everyone.
If we continue to make excuses then we should not expect any different results.
There have been new hires and they have brought in zero money. The corporate community does not like Mike. It’s that simple.
You know for a fact that Biff didn’t raise any funds for athletics or football?
These ADs like to play this close to the vest, but as of right now, I doubt we ever see a full share. Maybe for a year or two at most. More likely ESPN will cut the media rights money back severely either based on an pre-termination option clause or at the contract maturity.
Fearne tanking after hiring him is making me extremely worried our interim hire (Harrell) for ECU football could go the same way. Granted we did beat state in our bowl game and win the last 5 of 6 and kept most of what we needed to but not extending your search to hire the most qualified candidate always looks terrible in hindsight if the guy who had a solid run after the head coach gets fired starts to tank. To credit Hill for one thing, on paper the Albin hire looks like a home run for you guys.
Its always a roll of the dice. I think its probably sade to say, harrell will be better than houston dor you guys but outside of that, who knows. Im really excited about albin thus far, including his ability to pull some of our guys out if the portal
That’s an excellent point. Sometimes the home run hire on paper doesn’t work out, but I’d rather have a home run hire as opposed to an interim in most cases. I feel like it’s probably about time you guys cut Mike Hill loose.
Once Memphis and Tulane (and possibly usf) exit, we will be getting cusa money.
A full $8 million share is never coming.

I actually don’t agree with this.
I don’t think anybody in our fan base thinks it’s going well. The decision makers do though, and that’s all that matters. Such is our plight.
He isn’t getting fired guys. No matter how bad basketball is this year.
He just made what is objectively a good hire in football.
His fortunes will ride on the success of the Albin hire.
He has a two year buffer at least.
I’ll believe it when I see it… meaning hill getting fired if Albin is a bust. I’m not sure what a charlotte ad has to do to get fired.
I think we have a decent number of folks who aren’t happy but don’t care that much to really be upset.
That apathy comes from either sustained losing or the environment. It could also be related to the sports they actually care about.
At this point the only sports im emotionally invested in are soccer and football. Soccer is doing well and Mike just corrected his worse hire in Biff with what appears to be his best hire in Albin. I want to see how this works out.
I’m not happy at all about our lack of fundraising or the increases in tickets. That’s what he needs to be held accountable for IMO. If he can’t find more donors for evergreen that will seal his fate if you ask me.
I’ve never been a person that measures things strictly by Ws and Ls though. To me it has always been about strategy and finances as the most important things. I understand people who are driven by wins though, its just not my major measuring stick. Even if we found a way to win in basketball its with purchased players for a year which honestly just doesn’t interest me much.
I’m a hoops guy but I’ve came to the point that I basically think it’s hopeless to think we’ll ever replicate the success we had in the 90’s and 2000s. I like baseball and think there is a chance we can be top 20. Football is tailgating. If we win 8 or every now and then I’ll be ecstatic. The other sports don’t matter to me unless we’re big time good like soccer playing for a Natty or golf being top 3 in the nation.
NIL and the portal have pretty much driven me away from college sports
Being the guy who hired Hal Wissel.
Yep, that did it!
Win too much in revenue sports. Continued abject failure certainly isn’t it.
