Which three would play significant minutes in the ACC? Jamir, yes. Clyde? He transferred because he wouldnât get any run this year. Braswell? He played 12 min a game shot 39% for a so-so Syracuse team. He transferred for more PT. Jallow? Come on lol. The guy played 15 min a game (when he wasnât hurt like he is now).
Does this team have more talent than previous teams? Yes, no doubt. But letâs be realistic about who these players are and how they were valued and used at their previous schools. If this is all about letâs be grumpy and constantly complain about Sanchez and the state of our program then be honest and say itâs to push that agenda. But any serious bball fan knows these players transferred here for a reason. They knew theyâd get more PT. They knew they werenât gonna get it at the schools they were at because the ppl ahead of them on the depth chart were better.
Personally, Iâm glad Braswell and Jallow did. Braswell is one of the best offensive weapons we have. Jallow brought toughness and an edge to the team. Trapp is a fraud! Simple as that. Heâs coasting and doesnât care. Acts like heâs too good for us.
Btw, Butler is great! Love the grit but he wouldnât get 10 min on Pittsburghâs team.
So letâs be realistic about the talent we have yâall.
Youâre spot on about Trapp. Has all the tools be be a take charge lind of player, but apparently thought he was gonna step in and dominate the lowly CUSA without having to work hard.
Never said they were great at the next level but they all played significant minutes. Trapp played nearly 30 minutes per game at Clemson. Braswell only averaged 12 minutes but started playing more towards the end of last season and was a key contributor for them at the end of the year. Jallow has been injured for 2 or 3 years in a row but still averaged 14-15 minutes per game at Ohio State over 3 years. Butler and Braswell are defiintely the 2 best transfers. Anyway my response was to the statement that Young is the only guy we have who could play in the ACC when we in fact already have 2 guys who have and one who played in the Big 10. Never said they were great at that level but honestly along with Jamir and the talent we already had we should be better than 13-10.
I believe Butler could see 20+ minutes in ACC this year too. We have a solid top 6 player rotation. Weak at the 4/5 backup but still think we should have more wins than we do now.
13-10 feels like materially underachieving with this talent and against this schedule.
I feel like this team should be 17-6 or 18-5 at this point. This is not an elite team but it should be a good one. Probably sitting just outside or right on the bubble, at least talent wise.
It really comes down to 2 things to me: 1) we are really bad on the road, but especially neutral site games - some of our most baffling losses occur on neutral floors. 2) we have been blown out far too many times. Good teams donât get blown out routinely. I donât think they ever should. They also shouldnât routinely have such long scoring droughts. An off night should feel like last nightâs game, not a 25 pt drubbing.
IMO, thatâs the gap between where we are and where we should be.
Also I think the general consensus about our talent is correct. We have solid talent at the 1-4, but a deficit at the 5 behind Khalifa, who is a rather unique 5 man. I think just having a quality defender / rebounder to play behind Aly would help tremendously. Been bummed to see a guy like Garcia not develop into that role, and Francois has not been much of a contributor. I also agree that Trapp has not found his role on this team, though I donât watch his temperament to see how much of it is his personality. I am influenced by the number of people who say his attitude isnât there.
Besides not having a that big physical defensive guy inside getting boards, I think our starting 5 is better than some teams we ended the year top 60. I donât get it. Has to be scheme.
Nah, itâs always been the comparison for how gauge our players. But yes, the acc has bad teams. We should be able to compete with 75% of D1 teams with this roster.
Ok then what school would Butler 20 min for, seriously? You can forget the whole top half of the league. If you look at the bottom half the 8th or 9th player is averaging 10 min a game. Do you think an ACC school would pass up on a transfer that could legit give them 20 min a game in this day in age when players can freely transfer to ANY school? Ofc not!
I love the Niners but Iâm not gonna sit here and believe this team had Colson/Henry/Brown etc running the point. Williams/Guevara/Plavich/Goldwire launching threes. Baden/Young (rip)/White dunking everywhere with Lang/Whithers/Johnson roaming the paint. Letâs be serious here.
This is a decent team with lone star and thatâs Jamir. Threadgill and Braswell can be pretty good by the time their careers are over. Trapp is a fraud. Butler is limited in every facet athletically which is why he was eaten alive by the W. Ky guy. Anderson I believe. Aly has great touch, can pass. But good Lord heâs so slow and weak.
Weâre a middle of the road team maybe top 4 team talent-wise, in Conference USA. Unfortunately those are the facts!
This isnât an excuse for any coaching errors or whatever but an honest assessment of the pieces we have. Weâve sucked bad for a long time. Being middle of the road isnât acceptable but we also have to be honest about our talent level.
FWIW, LA Tech didnât get invited to the Sun Belt because A) already has two schools in Louisiana and B) of those two, the Raginâ Cajuns definitely did not want the Bulldogs in the SBC.
The remoteness of Ruston is the biggest impediment to LTU moving up and not the competitiveness of its athletic programs. Ditto WKU being located in Bowling Green.
Sucks for LAtech and WKU. Solid all around programs and stuck. App should see their situation and understand their challenge. And those two schools have better total programs than App.
A lot? Jahmir would. Aly probably has the potential to be acc contributor. Obviously Trapp did, but this years version of Trapp probably wouldnât. Not sure anyone else would get more than a few minutes a game off the bench for most acc teams.
This team has enough talent to be better than they are though.
In this yearâs version of the ACC - which is trending towards 3-4 NCAAT bids - I would think PT would be more than just a few minutes per game for a number of teams in the âgreatestâ hoops conference!
I was in school for both of those teams. I went to every game and they wouldâve wiped the floor with us. Seriously, Dijuan Harris and Wilderness would average 4 steals a game if they played a series against this team. One reason is bc they were smarter players than the ones we have now. You can work getting better situational awareness ( a talent).
Braswell and Phil JonesâŚwhoâŚyeah Phil Jones vs our current front line. Please man haha. Youâve got to be joking, right? This team equal talent to those teams? Oh Lamont Mack. Tough AND could score on any small forward. Didnât he lead the team in scoring? Rhetorical question btw.
I havenât even started talking about one of the most prolific 3 pt shooters we have ever had or the bench.
Jamir is Michael Jackson and thereâs no one close to being Janet.
Oh btw, I get it we hate the ACC. But letâs not act like their bottom feeders wouldnât run the hell out of every single team in C-USA.
Give me all the poop, thumbs down emojis you wish but thems the facts folks!
I love this school. My wife, myself, and two other family members graduated here. Iâm not gonna sit here and say this team is that much better than what their record shows
