Itâs obviously never going to happen because our AD thinks we already have the perfect coach but Lutz would be a more well rounded coach now than he ever was here before. He has probably learned a lot over the last 10-12 years.
HmmâŚ
Hire Bobby & Steve & we could have

Well at least the first two
Speaking of Lutz - as in Bobby - see that Ole Miss is sticking with Kermit Davis for at least another season, so looks like Lutz still has a job in Oxford.
Today has actually been 12 years to the day that Lutz was let go. Popped up in one of my feeds today.
His last 5 years he was 83-75 and no tourney trips. If thatâs what you want you should be happy now because thatâs exactly what this past year was.
But keep beating that drumâŚ.
Our mens basketball program as we knew it died about 5 years ago.
Hard to argue.
I think Hill thinks it can be slowly built back from the dead by a guy like Sanchez. A guy about as exciting as mayonnaise on wonder bread. I disagree. I think you have to bring in a program changer - a major mover and shaker.
Hill doesnât give a crap what I think though. Thatâs fine. I will reciprocate with my wallet, or lack thereof.
In a much tougher league and atleast in the post season conversations most years and those were his worst yearsâŚdamn right id take it right nowâŚbut you keep beating that Bobby sucks drum.
Im confused. Where did Hootie say Lutz sucks?
I missed it.
Its been inferred many timesâŚand his comments are very derogatory toward Bobby.
All 22 win seasons arenât the same. If your scenario played out, I would feel like we were padding Sanchezâs record by competing in a meaningless tournament. His record wouldnât be a true indication of how the season went.
Fact of the matter is we gave up on Lutz too quick. He had âearnedâ another year based on proven success. His last year may not have ended well but the entire year beforehand we were in the national discussions. We were slated for an NCAA at large bid until the very endâŚthings happen. We were relevant and the next year looked, at minimum, extremely encouraging.
You saying you inferred that Bobby sucks? I didnât infer that from what he implied.
I can not disagree with any of this. But at some point you just have to let it go. Itâs been 12 years and weâre under new leadership in the athletic department.
Iâve said it many times when this topic comes up, but there just arenât that many examples of what people want to happen actually happening. That is to say, bringing back a coach to the school that he was previously fired from. ECU just did it and it didnât turn out that well.
The last 2 years in the powerful C-USA conference, Lutz finished 1st and 2nd.
The move to the A10 hurt our program as it was a northeast conference. Recruiting, etc. was different. Nonetheless, 3 of the last 5 years he had 19/20 wins per season. Every indication was the following year would be a return to the NCAA.
Total BS to label Lutz a failure; far from it! Where would Davidson be today had they given up on McKillop like our program did Lutz? Not only would Charlotte be a stronger program today but would have remained so over the course of time had we also stuck with our coach.
Lets keep experimenting and wallowing in self pity as opposed to making an absolute, no brainer decision. I keep hoping common sense will prevail.
This!
Too much emotion in this thread. I just choose to remember the good and the not so good to draw my conclusions.
Lutz has the most wins in program history, also the most losses. Had a lot of success and beat a bunch of name guys and programs. Also had more than a few WTF losses. We were the second best program in a really tough CUSA. We also werenât very good in a much weaker A10.
People say he couldnât recruit to the A10. Not sure heâs gonna like recruiting to the AAC after 3 of the better program scoot after the next couple of years.
I miss the good old days as much as anyone but I learned a long time ago that looking back impedes progress
The âONLYâ reason that I have any hope of a Lutz return is because we are under new leadership.
