I know who gave bad interviews: Judy, Phil and Ron Sanchez!

Sadly you are correct. That’s a problem with society today.

But…it used to be ok to be brutally honest.
A time when facts mattered more than feelings.

We need to get back to that. Putting feelings ahead of facts…ability…and performance is not a formula for success.

Our basketball team is exhibit A

who in the hell do we think are are thinking someone is too arrogant when talking about our basketball program? Even back then. I am afraid this is the normal, forget the word new. 5 winning seasons in the past 15 years. One Tourney and that was the NIT and some of the time didn’t even qualify for our own conf tourney.

sorry for venting
Mike Hill, you poured gas on this fire by hiring Biff and the excitement and exposure he and his recruits are generating. Now follow through on basketball as well.

elvis out

Major was the 3rd or 4th guy down the bench at Ohio State & had never been a head coach. Price was an nba assistant with no college experience & only head coaching experience in Australia. Ron was the only hire that seemed to be well qualified for the job but he had no head coaching experience either. I think the only thing a coaching candidate could criticize about the administration is that they haven’t made good hires. Ron was the only good hire on paper & he just hasn’t worked out. Any candidate worthy of the job should have confidence in themselves & know that they can turn this around. I don’t think the failures of the last 13 years will or should be held against the program.

What’s up TSD and Normmm and the rest of the gang?!

A new coach with connections can easily fill out a quality roster for the upcoming season or two with being able to play right away. That’s the difference between this and all of the other new coach hires.

Hopefully a new coach could convince key players to stay (some can’t transfer). The HWY49 podcast (Hunter Bailey) checked on Braswell and Jallow eligibility and said Braswell has another year and Jallow has 2.

Kelsey obviously could have won here from what he has shown at Winthrop and Charleston. He was very young way back when he was considered. I can see why he didn’t get the job back then.

Just have to get the right coach!

We have slipped so far that it’s perceived no one cares enough for there to be a hot seat anymore?

Could we not go out and get a successful head coach from the Big South, Colonial, Southern or Atlantic Sun conference.

I just don’t understand why this is so hard.

Exactly.

Hope we hire a search committee.

Bob Richey, Takayo Siddle or Bart Lundy would all be good choices. Maybe Pat Kelsey as a long shot, make him say no candidate. Someone who has been a successful head coach would be nice.

They better get someone who has been a successful head coach.

Would a successful high school coach work?

History says odds are against it, be it hoops or football.

If he coached at big time colleges, played with a hall of fame, had an HBO series and is a self made 100 millionaire, but probably no, not even on that rare case

I agree, this says so much about our program. If we were at all relevant we would be on this list. We don’t exist anymore and that is sad!

I’d love to know what Mike Hill thinks our role is in college basketball, that’s all that matters.

If we are a school that has a basketball team, graduates kids, stays out of trouble and stays better than half of the NCAA schools we are screwed.

If he thinks like most on this board, we should be competing for NCAA tournament berths and be in the top 4 of our conference every year I don’t see how he doesn’t fire him after this season.

We will find out what Mike Hill thinks of our basketball program in a few months.

I will play devil’s advocate (snort) for a second, because it has been bothering me for a while - ever since I couldn’t figure out why Ron never appeared to sweat his post loss press conferences…

If you go back to our discussions about the athletic department last off-season, there were several people talking about the value strategy being: make either football or basketball respectable, while focusing on competing in the other sport.

So as to what Mike might be thinking? “We’ll throw out weight behind Poggi” and tell Sanchez to just keep hoops from going off the rails.

It’s a possibility.
