Dusty May basically contacted every P6 school in putting together a 2022-23 OOC and got only Florida and Ole Miss to agree to play FAU with the Owls as the visiting team. And the UF game was scheduled while Mike White was still there, so he was thinking an easy W for the Gators based on how mediocre FAU had been up until this year.
I will gladly admit that Ron has us as a middling team in a middling conference which may be slightly better than what we had before he got hereā¦but itās also obvious that middling is his ceiling.
I also am happy to publically thank Sanchez for bringing us to consistent mediocrityā¦but Iām ready for someone else to come in that knows how to take that next step.
Iām ready for that whole āCompete for Championshipsā thing that Mike likes to talk aboutā¦which oddly enough is what we used to do pretty regularly in basketball.
We competed for Championships in:
- The mid-late 70ās - before the program was even 10 yrs old - (117-25 record in a 5 season stretch from '74-'78 with a Final Four Appearance and a loss in the NIT Finals )
- The late 80ās (73-49 in a 4 season stretch from '87-'90 with an NCAA appearance)
- The ENTIRE 90ās (182-118 with 5 NCAA appearances)
- The mid 2000ās (114-69 in a 6 season stretch from '01-'06 with 4 NCAA tournament appearances)

At least a 4 year stretch in every decadeā¦for 4 decadesā¦our 1st 4 decades in existenceā¦even our very first decadeā¦competing for Championshipsā¦from 4 different coaches.
That is our history and should be the expectation. No excuses.
Iāll admit that I got spoiled. I graduated in 88 and we had some damn good years and great times.
If we donāt make the tourney or at least are in the mix for a bid I consider the year a failure and a disappointment.
We did it before, no reason we canāt again

clt says the chat page servers are heating up
You deserve to be spoiled, right? Especially given what seems like an eternity of losing basketball. We had bad years, but way more good, fun, winning years. The OOC scheduling had ranked teams and we beat our fair share of those programs. It all starts with the right coach. Pitino would win here Year 1, have us in the BIG TOURNAMENT by Year 2, and have us goingā¦.
3,000 plus responsesā¦true but I think 2900 are you and TRLeader espousing why you hate Ron and want him goneā¦LOLā¦
I agree that ever opinion is valid and if you donāt want to read them, donāt pull up the page.
I also believe in notā¦

Lowering our standards and expectations to meet the on the court performances is not progress, if we are going to ride on the āgold standardā banner, we have to expect and demand top tier finishes, is Sanchez capable of getting us to the āgold standardā and how long should we give him to prove that he can get us there are the questions
Only person who has the power to answer and act on those questions is Mike Hill. We have to trust that Mike will make the absolute best call for our program. I think, so far, he has proved that he will make tough callsā¦
Letās see how the next two or more weeks play out.
Count them up please. I am waiting patiently for your thoughtful tally
I think we have to balance expectations with reality. It isnāt really lowering expectations when you are in a position where itās near impossible to achieve previous expectations.
That in essence is lowering your expectations! You can spin however
I donāt understand how you expect the program to achieve something that it canāt.
When we are in a one bid league making the NCAAs the standard of which is success or fire coach i think thatās a bit steep.
Overall record, conference record and conference tournament seems to be a much better barometer of state of program.
I donāt believe that it canāt. Why would you? We have everything we need in place except a few players and the right coach. I wasnāt content with Lutz and his success. I appreciate that success and how much Lutz accomplished under more difficult circumstances than we now have. I will be damned if I will ever be content with anything our basketball program has done since Lutz. If they go down the road I think youāre implying is our best path, then I will officially no longer give a damn what the basketball program is doing; like how many coppin states they beatā¦but you can do what you want
Iām just trying to hold them accountable for what is possible to achieve. There are solid G5 programs that have missed the NCAA because that is how the system is set up. The only reasons we got at large bids was we happened to be in really good leagues with the METRO and CUSA 1.0. Where we are now is more akin to the sunbelt.
I agree with you that our performance this far in this league has been substandard. If we win 20+ games and finish near the top of the league or win Reg season and then miss tournament because the conference works against us - Iām not putting that on the coach.

So I am like an 8 percenter. Thank you. Anyone disputing? Any 30 percenters?
Ron was at the softball game today and left after one inning.
Obviously a loser. ![]()
