Maybe I need to define or differentiate some terms here:
Happiness - âHey we won a game I expected to lose tonightâ. âWow we won 4 home games in a row, even if it wasnt against top 25 teamsâ, or these days, maybe itâs just the âabsence of the typical misery and letdown I feel after a Niner game.â
Satisfaction - feeling like we have achieved either what we were capable of or a set standard of success over a long period such as an entire season.
Using those examples, I am happy about the way we have played recently, but I am not satisfied with this season. Not even close yet.
Outside of Regent and Warren Wilson who are non-D1âŚand are not rated
(Maybe thatâs the strategy. You get the cupcake wins but not the SOS penalty)âŚ
The worst rated team on their schedule this year is Louisville at 281âŚwhich was dumb luck and certainly not expected. Funny to say out loudâŚthe worst team on their OOC schedule was Louisville!!
By comparison we played 4 teams rated 300+
Maybe dumb luck plays into that at some level tooâŚbut when we scheduled Md Eastern Shore, Coppin State, Presbyterian, Monmouth and Detroit Mercy TWICE all in the same seasonâŚthat reeks of desperation.
Gotta do better than that in year 5.
Not for a NCAA Tourney resumeâŚbut to get the team better prepared for Conference play.
And Pride if nothing elseâŚshow more belief in your team and yourselfâŚbe better than that.
Dude, at the start of the season there is no way in heck you say Apps schedule looks tougher than ours. You can say our schedule was weak, but you picked one helluva example to use.
Thatâs certainly fairâŚbut the point remainsâŚyou donât schedule Md Eastern Shore, Coppin State, Presbyterian, Monmouth and Detroit Mercy TWICE to make up more than half of your OOC scheduleâŚunless you are scared and have no faith in your team or your coaching.
Thatâs a schedule for year 1 of the gutted roster and new system.
If you are that scared and unsure of your teamâs ability in year 5âŚthatâs not progress.
They got exactly what they wanted. We are having a very mediocre season in a very mediocre league but by padding wins early people have pretty much resigned themselves that Sanchez will definitely be here next year.
Mission accomplished by Ron and Mike. Another year of turd sandwiches that we are being told is filet mignon.
Actually I am closer to what NA said than anything. I just hate when someone looks at some schedule rating done by a computer without context. Especially when those ratings donât take into account the two non D-1 games.
CoC was in a tourney I think, not scheduled. Donât know if any of the others have coaches that are in any way affiliated with Chapel Hill (that always seemed to be a prerequisite for them scheduling any in state schools. I would imagine the others were all at home. Sounds like their coach was scheduling wins as well.
Lol! Couple more Sauras on here which is really strange considering our numbers left on this board. Surry and Stokes represent well no matter where I am.
I think the feeling was that you schedule those teams with all the new pieces we have, hoping they do better in conference when they gel. Unfortunately they didnât in the middle of the conference slate. Hopefully this lineup change we have found some balls, and the coaches will continue to open things up some. We shall see, but with Tre, Patt, Igor, Graves and a young Folkes, I didnât like it but didnât hate the idea.
With the transfer portal the way it is, anything you build, can be destroyed in a week. Especially with NIL also now being a factor.
What if Brice, folkes, and aly all decide they are tired of losing after this season ends? Brice and Aly will definitely have some NIL offers thrown at them by big programs. If they leave, back to square one. Ronâs first recruiting class was strong, but it has been pretty meh to bad since then.
The way the game is today, you canât rely on a system that takes a long time to instill in players because your core roster can completely turnover year to year.
I havenât really seen anything being built anyway. We are a middling program in a middling conference that has fluctuated between being really bad and somewhat bad every year Ron has been here. Alan Major provided the same kind of results and he was rightfully let go for mediocre performance. Of course the program still had pride back then. Now we just have pillars.
I think schools like us will continue to use the portal. We have hit on a few recruits like Brice, Aly, Folkes, and I will add Graves as I think he will be decent to good. JT has been ok just plays too much. But the portal will continue to be our friend to piece with recruit hits.
Alan was sick and could no longer coach. If Aly & Brice and Folkes are good enough to be lured away to P5 schools, then the recruiting canât be that mey.
Hopefully Ron learned that the whole, bringing kids in that were P5 bench warmers, is not a path to success but more one toward ruin. The players he brought in this year seem to have all bought into the system and have improved.
If weâre middling now in a middling conference, then that is an improvement from being bad and really bad in a bad conference. So Iâm glad to see you agree after all.
I am with Hootie. You guys in general complain about the back and forth, then engage in the back and forth, some say they donât believe in Sanchez, while at the same time berate others for expressing the same, call the Charlotte 49ers the unknownsâŚ.I donât subscribe to that.
Excuses excuses excuses excuses. We all went through Covid. We all lost time and people. How does that explain a 3000 fire Sanchez page? When I have not read anything anywhere about any incoming freshmen commits?
If you donât like to read this stuff, stay the F out. I am NOT being silenced. You may not like how I go about it, but I am making this wasted effort because I am pissed off about the general acceptance of what Niners basketball has become AND STILL IS
