This is what kills me. The sad fact that it was soooooo obvious when the schedule came out.
It was a schedule designed to pad wins for a coach that would be fired otherwise. The MORE sad fact is that it worked.
If we have to schedule Middle School teams to fool the fans to keep a coachā¦itās not the coach we need.
And noā¦we do not need to schedule a top 25 scheduleā¦just not a #336 schedule.
18-20 wins playing a 200ish OOC schedule and finishing Top 4 in a terrible Conference is at a MINIMUM where we should be in year 5.
But Iāll say it again. Maybe we get lucky and the team finds some momentum to win out. The teams we play are sucky enough for us to beatā¦even though we were sucky enough to only win half of them all year so far. But letās all pull together and go win this thing and get Sanchez another job!
We can do this!
As Jake Taylor says: āI guess thereās only on thing left to doā¦win the whole fucking thing!ā
So Ronās probably going to do it twice in 5 years with year 1 a total team restart and covid two years of that. Not a world beater by any sense of the imagination and not as great as we want, but you need to right a ship before you can sail it. Just bringing in any new coach does not mean weāll pick up from where we are and move forward. But keeping a coach that is building toward where we want to be, though slower than what we want, is still better then starting all over again. Especially since there are no guarantees that the next coach will do as well. Iād like to get back to enjoying 20+ win seasons again, wouldnāt you?
Why donāt we play one body bag game in basketball a year? We have done it in the past. Doesnāt have to be a ACC team but a SEC or Big 10 team would work. Test the team and see how they stack up against top level competition.
We shouldnāt give coaches 6 years to make the tourney (even the NIT). If we do, that limits the chances of us hitting on a coach that can before I die. (If a coach gets 2nd in the 5th year, only exception)
A lot of yāall give very generous leashes with a lot of money. This is a performance job. Every year you see coaches you have never heard of get hired and turn around a team in 1-2 years. Just because major, Price and Sanchez wasnāt the answer⦠doesnāt mean we should stop trying and accept that 5th is better than being 10th. Im gonna assume Hill isnāt happy with a 5th place CUSA finish and another year not making ncaa tourney.
When you are in a hole, the first thing to do is (Stop Digging) .
We atleast seem to be climbing out now.
Iām with others saying to let the season play out before Calling for Ronās head.
If we finish decent, I think Mike has to make a decision based on what happens
with transfers/recruits. We finish strong, no way you fire him and reboot as NA said.
The team is playing really hard right now and I am pulling for them.
Donāt know if you saw the article, but I think is was an ESPN writer that checked with both NT & Kent State (both top 75 NET teams), asking why they didnāt schedule any P5 schools Home or Away this year. The answer was they both tried like hell and no team would schedule them. Maybe youād prefer that our OCC schedule would include no home games. That should make our SOS go up.
Until we can stabilize the program in the top 100 and above, shitty OCC schedules is what weāre probably stuck with. As far as scheduling wins, Davidson has been better, Monmouth was better last year for game one of a HH, App State was better last year. On top of that, we were worse, so not sure how you schedule automatic wins. If you could, Louisville wouldnāt have scheduled App State and some of their other scheduled wins that they didnāt get
So much bullsh!tā¦truckloads.
Againā¦for comparisonā¦our OOC SOS is currently #336 (out of 360)
North Dakota scheduled a #171 OOC SOS
Cal Poly scheduled a #176 OOC SOS
Troy scheduled a #169 OOC SOS
SIU Edwardsville scheduled a #189 OOC SOS
Stonehill scheduled a #173 OOC SOS
UNC Asheville scheduled a #181 OOC SOS
Little Rock scheduled a #182 OOC SOS
St Francis PA scheduled a #187 OOC SOS
Maine scheduled a #172 OOC SOS
Texas St scheduled a #177 OOC SOS
Abilene Christian scheduled a #167 OOC SOS
Bethune Cookman scheduled a #180 OOC SOS
App St scheduled a #186 OOC SOS
Evansville scheduled a #202 OOC SOS
Campbell scheduled a #206 OOC SOS
Purdue Fort Wayne scheduled a #203 OOC SOS
Fairfield scheduled a #210 OOC SOS
Elon scheduled a #214 OOC SOS
Itās not that hard. If these schools have no trouble finding DECENT dance partnersā¦we are either not trying or weāre incompetent. Neither excuse is acceptable.
This thread has become nothing short of a rinse and repeat of the same arguments over and over.
If they win one of the last two and Rice loses one they clinch fifth and a bye in the tournament. That would be the second time In his five years he would have earned a bye in the tournament. You win a game in the tournament that is a vast improvement over where things have been.
How many of you would have been happy with tl 21-12 or 20-13 at the beginning of the year?
There is a no manās land in scheduling, and I know several other people including NWA have talked about it - where a P5 school wonāt schedule you because you are too much of an unknown.
P5 schools are looking for one of 2 things: a good NET team that will challenge them but not hurt their NET if they lose, or a lower NET team that is a guaranteed W but wonāt hurt too badly (limited # of those). If you are erratic and just good enough to pose a threat but not good enough to rely on your NET (say maybe a team that has finished in the dregs the past few years), you are a scheduling pariah to the āpowerā conference schools.
That said, I interpreted Tedās first comment about this to mean that they should schedule us, not that they would. We are arguing over the reasons and not the objective outcome, which all fundamentally agree upon - Chapel Hillās menās basketball team is never walking into Halton willingly. Never.
