Fire Ron Sanchez

If Halton is up to 33% next year, that’s a positive…

clt says the style of play makes it tough for casual fans to come to haltron

Never said that but the fact is he is the last coach to win 20+ games and even when that happened, we did not have the best record in the league.

The fact is we have sucked for so long and so bad, that if (and it’s a big if) we win 20 games this year, it’s progress but that doesn’t mean it’s the bar or the ultimate success.

I am completely tired of the two sides (team politics mentality) and how this argument is all about dividing the fanbase into ā€œUSā€ and ā€œTHEMā€.

Here is my issue: making a change just to make a change. We have done that several times lately and I’m tired of it. Tired of reboots that go nowhere. We have a mildly successful at best reboot in place 5 years in. It’s not what I really want, but I’m wary of just starting over without a plan.

If there is a plan with committed funding that can land us a difference maker coach - as close to a can’t miss as possible, then there aren’t any worthwhile arguments against doing it. But if not, then the entire premise starts to get dicy, quickly.

I also still am not ready to make up my mind about Ron until after this season is over. There is a reason AD’s do and say they want to do this. It’s prudent. This firing mid season stuff is a last gasp, bad look used only when the coach has lost the team and the community (or done something unethical).

I’m gonna ride this out and see how the final results look, which is probably exactly what Mike Hill is going to do. But I also expect he is doing contingency planning as well, because that’s his job.

The rest of this is just people venting, which I do a great deal of myself, but ultimately carries zero weight.

I agree new look AAC won’t be a powerhouse, but there are more schools that invest in basketball than were in CUSA. Also helps that the schools coming in for the most part are on an upswing in basketball.

Is it gonna be great basketball? No. Is it gonna be better basketball? I believe so. Will an at large be easier in AAC than CUSA 3.0? I believe so. Will AAC get multi buds every year? No.

Who is mentioning firing Sanchez mid season? There may be a post or two from someone that I’m not remembering but I don’t get that feeling people want that to happen. Winning the conference tourney is always a coaches life-line for another year.

Basically any time someone posts " Ron must go " under this thread topic is advocating for it ( and in every other thread on this forum it seems)

I’m happy with the W and was happy with wins earlier in the year. Doesn’t change the fact that we are 9-9 in a crap conference.

We play good D when we play against bad teams…we’ve played a lot of bad teams this year.

Despite that…KenPom has us ranked at #114 Defensively. 114 is obviously not a Top 50, Top 75 or even a Top 100 defense. It’s average. We have a defensive specialist coaching us…5 years in…and we are an average defensive team.

Again…NOTHING Ron does or says is about winning. It’s about ā€œbeing thankfulā€ and a ā€œjourneyā€. Tired of his ā€œjourneyā€. LOVE our kids…they play so hard for this clown. They deserve better. I am absolutely 100% cheering for them to win out …but so Ron can GTFO. The ends justifies the means at this point.

Meanwhile, Pitino is going to his second ncaa tournament in 3 years at Iona? WTF is Iona? Do they play Detroit Mercy? Ron better not schedule Iona

I think this thread will never die even after Ron has left and guided another program to a Final Four aka The Niner Way.

If this end of year upswing continues this thread will slow down to next years first WTF loss so I am going to enjoy the wins and pray that we hear some really bigtime recruiting outcomes. We need players and an upgrade in talent at a lot of positions.

We do have some bad teams in our conference, but so does the ACC ( 4 or 5 teams have losing records). What the CUSA teams don’t have are fair ways to judge just what the strength of the conference truly is. (other similar G5 conferences are in the same boat.) How many P5 teams have played our conference mates on our campuses? Based upon some of the P5 games I’ve seen on TV, any of the top 5 CUSA teams can stay with and beat some of them. We just don’t get the opportunity. And no, I haven’t seen any CUSA team that could hang with Houston, Alabama, Kansas, Purdue and a few other teams. But without fair opportunities for true comparisons, it’s hard to prove that CUSA is a crappy conference this year.

Guided another team to the final 4?

That’s complete nonsense. Why would Virginia come to Halton? For comparison sake it would like us playing at Catawba. Why on earth would we?

I get you like Sanchez for some reason but gracious we scheduled down for a reason, to pad the win column. To his credit it worked and he’s probably got another year.

Once again winning beats the shit out of losing but some are happy being the skinniest kid at fat camp. Sorry, not me

One other question for some of the posters on here since I’m not going to spend the time to look it up. Going back to the Metro Conference days, how many years have we finished above 4th or 5th place in the regular season and how many conference championships have we won and how many times have we made it past the 2nd round in the NCAA tourney?

Uhhhhh you had me until this post. Several several times my man.

Jeff finished 5th or better 7 times including all
Metro years

Melvin finished both years 3rd and 2nd

Bobby finished better than 5th all 7 years of cusa and twice in his 5 years in a10

Alan finished better than 5th once and that was cusa not a10

Mark zero

Haven’t seen second weekend since 1977

3 conf tournament champs since metro years 1 metro 2 cusa

2 reg season champs since metro years 1 metro 1 cusa

I’d say up until the Bobby firing we were a very well performing conference program but OOC sometimes gave us troubles. Since Alan out OOC schedules haven’t been too difficult and we haven’t done very well in conference play.

I’m just saying the bulk of the G5 schools and conferences don’t get a fair chance to see where they truly stack up against the P5 schools. The NET, RPI, SOS and Kenpom are all biased toward the P5 conferences and against the G5 conferences. It all starts with where teams get ranked pre-season and filters down from there. The Tarholes were pre-season #1, Louisville was probably top 50 along with FSU.

Ever since the NCAA expanded beyond only conference champions getting to play, the P5 conferences have slowly revised their scheduling practices to make it harder and harder for any G5 conference to be more than a 1 bid league while they get teams in with losing conference records (WVU might be a prime example of it this year)

It’s pretty simple in my mind. Take one game series and play P5s on the road on ooc. Build the resume that way. Hopefully we finish strong and start next scheduling season in a place where we aren’t an anchor for P5s schedule a few then win a few.
