Fire Ron Sanchez

Sanchez just said at pregame meal ā€œOne of our goals was to finish in the upper half of the leagueā€ and people clapped. Sanchez accomplished his goal. Unreal. Sounded like a coach listing off excuses for this years result and polling for another year.

Hill standing in the corner no expression.

Maybe my competing to win CUSA expectation is unrealistic. We’ll see if Hill agrees with me or Sanchez. Goal is to finish in upper half of CUSA in his 5th year??

Billy Madison Shut Up GIF

The sad reality is…the few successes that you try to point out are baseline minimums that should not be considered accomplishments at all.
Sweeping WKU and La Tech…WOW …nobody else but Sanchez could do that!!
Developing 3 players…WOW…I’ve never seen another coach do that!!!
Going 9-2 against a #334 ranked schedule…THAT’S DEAN SMITH OR COACH K TERRITORY!!

Nothing he has done in 5yrs has been meaningful…absolutely nothing. No meaningful wins and certainly no meaningful Conference accomplishments…nor not one single Conference tourney win.
Sanchez is 22-51 away from Halton in 5yrs…he is 34-37 in Conference if you don’t count year 1

The only thing he does that another coach would be incapable of doing…is play a 7th deep rotational player 32 min per game.

I agree that we do NOT have the best talent in CUSA. So we agree that Ron can’t recruit either. Or if he can recruit…he can’t develop. But yes we have a talent issue…that is solely on Ron.

However, I would argue that we had better talent than the WORST team in the league when we needed a win…and Sanchez couldn’t win with more talent in that game. Or…If we don’t have better talent than the WORST team in the league and that’s your excuse…that’s an even BIGGER problem.

BTW…Last year…he had the Freshman of the Year and a contender for the Player of the Year (that is now starring at Maryland)…and still finished 8th last year in Conference. So the more talent he has…the worse he coaches!?

And we are in a bad conference…but so are the other teams in our conference. A good coach should be able to compete for Championships (Mike’s mantra) in a bad league by year 5. Sanchez isn’t in the remote zip code to competing for Conference championships…he’s still struggling to hover above .500 and loses to the WORST team in the league in one of the few meaningful conference games he’s had a chance to coach.

Your attempt at making excuses for this guy is hilarious. Looks like the one that has been swindled by the Used Car Salesman (Mike) is you.

Only the great coaches aspire to be a little better than average!!!
What a LOSER’S team goal for year 5!!!

But…his team is following his lead. They played to be satisfied with finishing top half of the league because that was his goal. Also…what a sad statement it is to tell those kids that they aren’t good enough to compete for the top of the league. He basically gave a team goal that tells those kids he doesn’t believe in them (or himself) anymore than that.

THAT is a leader of men!?

They deserve so much better. Such a clownshow.

If USM, Marshall, ODU didn’t leave CUSA early I wonder if we would have finished in the top half of the conference?

According to this we had some pretty good recruits back in the day. Maybe not a McDonald’s AA, but a one an done top 10 drafted NBA player is not bad. A ranked #15 recruiting class is not bad. We would all take #50 today.

Don’ t recall people clapping when he said that. There was clapping when he finished his pregame speech, but that’s just people being polite. Maybe we should have all stood up and booed?

Play back the speech. It was not at the end of his speech, I’m 100% certain of that. Im not for being rude to Sanchez.

Season 7 Reaction GIF by The Office

all I know was when they left I was hoping this team would finish in the top 4 and have a deep run in the conference tournament since the league should have gotten easier to win. Its time to see what happens in the tourney now.

I will also say this. yeah this was a bad conference but a good recruiter should have been able to put together and develop a stronger team to finish stronger here at this school. especially with teams leaving making it easier to win. I mean with the move to the aac is there even a guarantee that rons recruiting and development will get stronger to beat the better teams he will face next year? and if not what will the next plan be? All I know is if he’s given one more chance there better be a huge bump in the next class or else next year is going to look way worse when we face teams like memphis and smu instead of fiu and wku.

Not sure where I can go to play back the speech. I’ll take your word for it. Maybe I just didn’t hear it because I was sitting on the opposite side away from Judy Rose.

ā€œIf you go 1 - 25 each year, but win the CUSA tournament, does the season truly matter?ā€

That sounds like the same mentality of someone who buys scratch-off lottery tickets, and just scans the barcode to see if the ticket is a winner, instead of playing the game.

It is extremely rare when a team has a mediocre regular season and then goes on to win the conference tournament.

18-13 and 9-11 in the regular season are pretty piss poor results when we had a over 300 OOC SOS and are in the 10th best league in the country… if we lose next week in the first game, he needs to go, nothing has shown we can compete for a conference championship in any conference with Ron Sanchez.

Let’s be real here. Sanchez is a little better than average. No CUSA tournament wins, no post season since he has been here. I guess he achieves his goals every year. Mine are a little higher. I want this team to win the regular season, the conference tournament, and the national championship. Sure, those goals may be unrealistic, but its a hell of a lot better than saying, I hope we can finish a little above .500 overall and around .500 in league play. Mediocrity!! People were excited about the Tulsa win earlier this season. We struggled against that team. They are terrible, bottom of the AAC. This is the coaching staff you want to take to the AAC next year? They couldn’t even get the kids up to play UTSA. Also, terrible team at the bottom of CUSA. I’m trying to be positive here, but its hard, man. I want us to win and be good and I don’t see it happening. I’m going to pull for us on Thursday and send them all the energy I can for them to win. I gotta admit, I have my doubts. If its a loss, I will contribute $250 to buy out Sanchez’s contract.

We have one commit for next season & he was not heavily recruited & has no stars. He looks like he has some talent but not rated very high at all. By this time of year it feels like we should have more committed players. He either can’t recruit high school kids anymore or we are going all in on the portal. I understand the thinking behind this but it’s risky to rely on the portal. Instead of recruiting players years in advance, you are relying on a 2 to 3 month period after the season to build a team.

He may have finished in the top half of the league but he was below .500

Oh, and he didn’t even play Larson today. I mean, damn, put him in for a couple of plays, call a TO and take him out. Its not like he uses that one mandatory first half TO anyway.

I thought Sanchez was safe, but the lose to UTSA and a 1st round lose in Frisco may do him in

How about we didn’t improve enough? We still finished 9-11 in conference.

We were 10-8 in conference last season, so we actually got worse where it mattered.
