Fire Ron Sanchez

Don’t come in here using your words. We know you were not learned on typing and grammar at EZU

I find it hilarious that so many say we need a guy who has been a head coach, been to NCAATs and/ or won at some level…Bobby has done all of the above AND he is an alum, our winningest coach ever and wants to be here…if he had done all the same things at some other school (not here) I’m willing to bet most people here would love him as a candidate.

I think he could get it done. I just don’t think it’s a lock like some of you think. Those last 4 years if Bobby weren’t great, better than what we have, but not great.

I’m more worried about someone that can actually turn this thing around. I’m not positive that Bobby is the right guy for that.

With all of that said it would be fun and exciting to have him back. At least at the start. No denying it would be a feel good story.

The point is…no one is a SURE thing, but you have to look for the guy with the best shot at it. I’ll take a guy who HAS won over someone who hasn’t all day long and twice on Sunday.

I think it’s consensus we all want a guy that has won at a HC level.

Bobby HAS.

I’d rather have Marshall or turgeon than Bobby if we are going after fired head coaches.

I’d take Marshall in a split second (with protocols in place) but we won’t go there.
Still hoping Sanchez can turn this around but have less faith after each game.

It is a cluster now but if you keep making good hires on paper (not Major or Price hires) we’ll get the right guy.

Good piece providing insight on the Turgeon resignation:

Archie Miller would be a great hire if we could get him. He’s been very successful at a mid-major & would be looking to prove himself. Also has some ties to North Carolina.

Would love to get Bobby back but that seems more like a dream than reality at this point. If it happened I would be happy with that too.

In response to the comment above that Bobby has not resurrected a program. Not true. See the illustration below where he built a powerhouse at Pfeiffer.

Regarding the comment above that Lutz had a period of 5 bad years at the end of his run here. See the illustration below.

The move to the A10 our delay in starting football. We were well on our way prior to the A10 debacle. It impacted recruiting significantly. It’s not fair to put all the blame on Lutz. We were well on our way in CUSA before it blew up.

Had we started football earlier perhaps we would have followed a couple of our peers to the AAC like Louisville and Virginia Tech. Or, perhaps we follow Houston on their track. Or, Memphis, etc. Don’t blame this on Lutz. Conference affiliation matters.

I’ll take Lutz at the helm any day while moving to the AAC. The last year he coached here he had 19 wins. We were projected an NCAA tournament team before the end of year collapse. These things happen. He had his core team coming back the next year.

How many on here have wondered what would have happened had Lutz been given the opportunity to come back the following year. I think I know and it would have been a hell of a lot better than we got with Major.

Again, look at the last 5 years Lutz was here coupled with being in the A10. Who would not take his last 5 years and replace it with any 5 years since his departure. How can anyone possibly argue against a Lutz return? I am hearing that Lutz is not a guarantee. I agree. There is no guarantee that I will wake up tomorrow but I would bet on it just like I would bet on Lutz! With Lutz, I am ā€œall in.ā€ And I know there are many, the majority, just like me! Once again, see below.

The A10 was a fine basketball conference with lots of teams that way, way outperformed us. It isn’t an excuse.

Also his ā€œall inā€ year was after flirting with another school and that year was a total bust.

Agree, A10 was a fine basketball conference but not a good fit for us. Different style of recruiting. Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Fordham, Duquesne, LaSalle, etc. Not a food geographic fit. Our traditional recruits had no interest in this conference. Different style of play. Its beyond me how we could have opposition to a Lutz return. Please refer back to his record.

Lutz would absolutely kick butt in the AAC. I’m perfectly OK with Hill, Gabber, Healy, Lutz, and Woodard. Looks like a rock star team!

I’ll give you Pfieffer I was thinking D1 programs but yeah he did a solid job there.

I just think a lot of the views on Bobby here are looking through some really dark green tinted glasses and overlooking some of the warts with him.

As I said I’m not anti Bobby. I love the guy. Love his style and love him as a person and I’ve always enjoyed talking to him.

Please enlighten me, where are the warts? Can someone possibly argue we would not have been far superior, even relevant, had Lutz continued forward?

I get it. There’s no way to know for sure. Go back to his record above. The year he was let go we were at 18 -5 before finishing with 19 wins. Based on where we are today, our head coach would get a raise and a nice extension. Bobby got fired as opposed to being allowed an opportunity to build on that 19 win season the following year.

Meanwhile, I have sat my butt in a seat in Halton for most every game since and watch a far inferior product every since.

Bobby made it look easy. He set a very high standard. Many on here felt like ā€œWe are Charlotte and anyone can do this,ā€ even our administration at the time. We have seen what has taken place with some extremely qualified coaches. They don’t suck as coaches. Their results at Charlotte have sucked.

It is critical to have the right coach, at the right place, at the right time. I suggest the time is now…assuming that it does not work out with Sanchez.

49er49er…I agree entirely.

Would anyone suggest to Hill that he read this forum topic?

I wonder if Bobby reads this forum. I bet he does!

I agree. I never really posted or spent much time here back then so I didn’t really know so many fans had turned against Lutz. I graduated in 2006 so I saw some of our best years. It kind of caught me by surprise when he was let go but after reading some of the posts on here I started to believe the idea that it was time to move on & maybe we could find someone to take us to the next level. Now I don’t mind admitting that was probably not the right thing to do without a good plan to replace him. Maybe we had fallen off of his best years but I don’t think we would have ever dropped off any where near as low as we have if he had stayed.
