Isnât posing as an insider online where your trouble began?
Iâll state plainly that my issue with Ruffin is health and age. Can he handle HC from those two aspects? I believe he is a very good coach though.
Ruffin was pretty solid at ECU, for the most part, but I donât think his record is nearly as impressive as Skipâs.
clt likes that Mack has HC experience and we can make great puns.

You are correct⌠you are catching on . ![]()
If UAB ends up with Skip, UTEP ends up with Herman and we end up with Jerry Mack, I will be pretty bummed out. Nothing against him. It would just hurt that much more knowing that those programs got proven coaches and we have to take a shot at someone who has had success but at a lower level.
Ultimately I want whoever is the best fit for the job.
But at the same time, we have got to kick our whipped dog / small time / managed expectations mindset. Itâs depressing.
Yeah I would be pretty pissed if utep whoâs still gonna be stuck in cusa for the foreseeable future somehow ended up getting tom herman while weâre moving up to the aac and still somehow having to settle for a RBs coach.
And NA is right we need to stop having this small mind mentality with the program. I mean somehow people think the suggestions we made are too pie in the sky like weâre trying to prove we are an sec program. no one here is suggesting we are going to steal lane kiffin away from ole miss. there is no shot of that happening for a long while. what most are simply suggesting is lets go dumpster diving in the rich conference neighborhoods to see if maybe one of their former coaches who they threw away because they couldnât deliver for the bigger programs could somehow just get us 6 wins in the aac. that basically it.
1000% this. That was all I could think viewing that list.
Lucky for us most of these folks know very little about our program and they have basically nothing to do with the direction we go.
What a program has done in the past is the least you important thing when coaches are looking at roles.
What they are going to look at is can they succeed in the role. If Mike is putting the resources required into the program along with the expansion and conference move, we should have a field of very solid candidates. Then it will be up to Mike to pick the right one.
Mike Hill just need to do this for who he wantsâŚ

Texas A&M has thrown a ton of money at their football program and they might not make a bowl game either this season. We need to invest more into our program but money wonât necessarily solve all our problems.
Money would absolutely solve all our problems if itâs spent the right way

can confirm this is accurate
Its also possible we (hill) interview a skip holtz type and still choose someone like Mack as we (hill) think the up and coming coach is better than an above average retread.
Certainly could be. Hiring the up and coming coach can be exciting but man itâs rolling the dice as we have been seeing in multiple sports.
There is an old business saying âyou donât get fired for buying IBMâ. Iâd rather see an established coach that has been tested than an up and coming assistant that is unproven.
Who the heck is Jerry Mack?
I dont think we should hire an up and coming coach, just pointing out if we do its not necessarily an indication that we are taking a lesser option.
