This question wasnāt addressed to me, but Iāll answer it anyway. I will try my best not to ābashā whoever our first coach is. I bought FSLs on day 1 and I will always bleed green, but I will be highly disappointed if it is a āno-nameā, especially considering we have atleast one big-name guy who has publically stated heād love to have the job. If we were an established program I would be fine with a no-name guy, but we are not. Our greatest need (by far) imo is someone with great name recognition and personality who will excite the city and the region. We need to build a ābuzzā, sell tickets and corporate sponsorships first and foremost. Hell, even Judy has stated the same kinds of things the last 18 months. So, if she now forgets that and hires someone that nobody in Charlotte has ever heard of we will not be able to do what she has said is most important. That to me, just does not make sense.
Iām just a bit disappointed at this point about how much we have backed off of the stated goals that were recommended by the Feasibility Committee. Some moderation was to be expected, even encouraged; but the administration seems to be following the Statmats example with football now. We had an excellent committee put together that made very realistic recommendations about how and why we should start football. Since it has landed in Duboisās lap though things have slowed to a crawl.
Move to FBS ASAP, valid and achieveable goal that would have created considerably more interest in this city. What does Dubois do? āWhen Iām dead and buried.ā
Now we have a chance to turn it around again with a big name hire, and probably not just Amato. The problem is that would create too much excitment, too many EXPECTATIONS! Thatās not the Dubois way! Why fly when we can take the slow boat.
Iāll support whomever we hire but if its a no-body after at least 1 very public major interest was expressed; itās going to be a lead balloon.
