Fox Sports 730 - The new home of 49ers Sports.

http://gmine.blogspot.com/2011/04/49ers-basketball-football-on-fox-sports.html

It’s better than 1660, but it’s not as high as we wanted.

Thoughts?

Now here’s my biggest immediate concern. Who has preference on being broadcasted when there’s a conflict? Us or App St? I can barely tolerate being booted for an ACC team but not App. No WAY!

I’d think us in CLT listening area… I know there are app state alums…but come on.

I’m also assuming this is in reference to football. Appy basketball is even less interesting than Charlotte on a bad year.

730 also had Clemson basketball this season along with App St.

I hope our deal gives us priority and a little commercial time. I’ve been listening to 730 for a while now and hear Yosef Club ads almost every day. I wonder what the terms of the deal are?

"We are extremely excited for both our program and our fans," said 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "We have had a strong broadcast partner in the past and are thrilled that we will be able to deliver our games to our fans on a consistent basis on Fox Sports 730. In addition, by returning our games to a formatted sports radio station, we look to improve our program's radio presence in the marketplace, throughout the day."
"We couldn't be more excited to begin a long term relationship with the Charlotte 49ers," said Lanny Ford, General Manager at FOX Sports Radio 730 AM. "We are thrilled to be the home of a basketball program with such a strong tradition. And, to be chosen to be part of history with the launch of 49ers football in 2013 is a huge."

The agreement, negotiated and executed by the 49ers Media Rights holder, Signature Sports Group, Inc., calls for FOX Sports 730 to carry Charlotte 49ers men's basketball games and "The Alan Major Show", which is head basketball coach Alan Major's weekly coaches show, for the next two years in addition to football shows that could be developed before 2013. In the third year, the agreement will expand to include the 49ers Football broadcasts and "The Brad Lambert Show", a weekly show that will run throughout the season. The Charlotte 49ers will unveil their football program in the fall of 2013.

"We are excited to be able to answer the call to provide Charlotte 49ers' fans with a sports radio station as the flagship home of all Charlotte 49ers' broadcasts," said Signature Sports Group principal Steve Hall. "We look forward to working with Lanny Ford and HRN Broadcasting (Inc.) as we did for a very healthy and long-standing relationship with CBS Sports Charlotte."</blockquote>

Well that answers the When part. Starting next year (aka NOW) with 2 years of BBall with (maybe) some football related shows, then 1 year of both sports.

Here’s what I’d like to see from this:

49er Club commercials like the ones already on 730 for App’s Yosef Club.

Some 49ers home baseball games getting picked up for broadcast and maybe a Coach Hibbs Show in the future.

49ers are first priority. Can’t be bumped by any other school. The added bonus is now back on a station that is a sports format all day.

That’s good to hear NinerJags!

I like to think so too. I think for us the important thing is to be on the radio in Mecklenburg, and every county that touches it.

THAT’S our target audience!

If we can do that with 1 radio/TV station I’m fine with that. If we need 20 to do that, then that’s what we need to achieve.

The 49ers. We sign deals with AM stations because we’re into technology. 1949 technology. :stuck_out_tongue:

The parent company of Fox 730 has a network of stations. Radio in Charlotte is highly competitive. I don’t think UNC had an FM home and I don’t know that Duke had a presence at all. Even NBA has been AM.

The broadcast power is weaker than 1660 was at night. Their transmitter is located near Belmont Abbey. I’m wondering if it will even pick up on campus at night. They only broadcast with 195 Watts at night. :o

Somebody on campus please verify this. Also, if you live in Kannapolis or Salisbury check to see if you can hear it at night. Thanks.

I live in UCity and can’t pick up 730 at night, but I also couldn’t get 1660 so…

That sucks. Even with a good car antenna you can’t pick up 1660 north of Exit 55 on I-85. I hate missing all of the postgame show.

This really sucks I live in Charlotte (zip 28269) and you can’t pick up this station at night. 85% of our basketball games are at night. So much for listening to the pre/post shows driving to the game. I hope the station can bump up its signal strength at night. For that matter I hope this station can stay in business until 2013. Seriously how many weak signal talk/sports radio stations have went under throughout the years in Charlotte?

How many had the backing of Fox Sports?

Hopefully they can increase the signal strength in the near future. Keep in mind they have only been in business in Charlotte for a few months.

It’s good to have the backing of Fox Sports but it would also be good for Niner fans to listen to the lineup and call in especially now that we know they will be our voice through the start of football.

I usually stream it at work and think the morning line up is decent and they have a new evening drive show that I have yet to hear. I really am not a fan of Jim Rome in the 12-3 slot but I’m not sure what else is out there in that time frame with a somewhat new station not sure they can bring in someone to do another local show.

I wouldn’t take it to heart. Keep in mind that they have been very successful at their level, won consecutive championships and developed a very loyal following. There are also a lot of people from the broadcast areas that attend/attended App and follow the team closely.

I think we’ll be attractive to multiple markets at some point as well but you have to crawl before you wallk.

Also, UNC-T does get bumped from these stations regularly…it looks impressive (and is compared to ours) but its not as good as it looks…I think we will develop a “true network” before 2013 with atleast a few stations that will expand our listening area.

Major was on this morning but I missed it.

A little 49er welcome at 14:30 mark, Major interview at 37:00 mark.

http://foxsports730.com/component/option,com_podcast/Itemid,49/format,raw/view,feed/

730 is the flagship station for the 49ers. App State football will be on for the next 2 years until we start up. All 49er b-ball games will be live but they may have a few App and Clemson games on.
