Fox Sports 730 - The new home of 49ers Sports.

Major was on this morning but I missed it.

A little 49er welcome at 14:30 mark, Major interview at 37:00 mark.

730 is the flagship station for the 49ers. App State football will be on for the next 2 years until we start up. All 49er b-ball games will be live but they may have a few App and Clemson games on.

That is an acceptable arrangement.

clt says that signal strength is a moot point. most peoples can stream live on the interwebs now.

Finally, we’re no longer affiliated with that tar hole-dook-suckfest-piece-of-crap at 610. FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST! THANK GOD ALMIGHTY! WE’RE FREE AT LAST!!

Doesn’t help much when you want to listen to postgame on your drive home after leaving Halton.

At 195 Watts, I’ll be really surprised if you can even listen to the games on campus via the radio.

Well that is good news for me! Finally living in Belmont is giving me an advantage when it comes to the 49ers!

You’ll still need one of those 8’ antennas to pick it up until you get past I-77.

How does Davidson get their games on 95.7 FM (coverage spans from VA to SC and from Yadkin River to Blue Ridge) and we can never get our broadcasts to cover all of Mecklenburg County?

We need the ability to listen to our games from anywhere in the Charlotte metropolitan area. How do we keep getting stuck with these stations with no signal?

kick backs

Cibi, what do you mean by kick backs? That sounds a little accusational.

clt says stream thru your car stereo on the way home.

I don’t think Davidson has all their games on 95.7. They get trumped by NC State games and Coaches shows.

Wifi radio? How much initially, per month, and where do I get one?

Matt Sweirad was on this morning but I only heard the intro. Cant find a podcast. Anyone hear it?

clt streams radio thru his blackberry. unlimited data plan so no worries.

Coach Hibbs and Coach Devos will be on this morning. I heard them saying that they will be having a 49er segment like this each Tuesday. Getting ready to go to a meeting, so cna someone recap for me. Thanks.

Only caught the part with Coach DeVos. She mostly talked about the bidding process for the A10 Softball Tournament and the difficulty of exam-time tournaments.

Podcast is up of the Hibbs and Devos interview. Very happy to see 730 devoting a weekly segment to our programs.

They pay $$$.

I got some DETAILS on this whole thing, radio deal, Davidson on 95.7, Fox Sport 730AM…

It had nothing to do with money or even Steph Curry. It was about availability.

For 5 years, we had an exclusive market contract in Charlotte DMA with CBS Radio for games on 610 (2001-2006). When our contract was up and the Tar Heels left WBT, we got moved to 1660. We were guaranteed to have every game live on 1660 for 3 more years (2006-09). That contract ended in 2009. Last year, we were third fiddle behind UNC and the Bobcats. And, that was the first time in 25 years that we did not have every game carried live on AM.

Before we re-upped with CBS for games on 1660 in 2006, we had a chance to get a partial schedule on 95.7. We negotiated with them to carry our games, but understood that NC State was first priority. We offered the same money, but they had a long-standing “mutual right or renewal” contract. Once our schedule came out, we reviewed our games against their football games, coaches shows for both football and basketball and their basketball games. We would have been able to get on something like 16-17 games. That was it.

We would have paid 4 times as much to get those games on, but then we would have had to find home for the remaining 10-13 games plus the coaches shows. At that point, CSB said they would not carry our games and would take someone else (Davidson, Duke, Wake, App) on full-time instead of a partial schedule of ours. So, it was pretty much cut and dry. Do we carry all of our games and shows on 1660 or 16-17 games on 95.7? We made the choice to carry all on 1660. Davidson got booted off 610 or 1660 and decided it was better to have some games on 95.7 and remaining games on 1310 (or another smaller, weaker AM). Their SoCon schedule works better against an ACC schedule than ours did. We play a lot of the same nights ACC teams do.

The beauty of Fox Sports is that they will grow with us. They wanted us. We are a priority and they are building programming around us. It is not a finished product, but it is a great start.
