I had an epiphany earlier. One great way that many organizations have raised money has been with a calender. Chick-fil-a has been quite successful with their calender. Iām not sure if they still do, but a fraternity on campus (Iām almost positive it was PKA) had a calender at one point. We could do the same thing.
I had a few ideas of what we could use. One was to have Norm being at different locations. I like to think Iām pretty good with photography so I had some ideas for places and setups. One was to have a picture facing the beach and Norms back. He would be chilling in a beach chair on a nice day maybe holding a drink. Another would be for him to be downtown somewhere. Another would be him in Halton Arena. There are only 12 months so Iām sure I can come up with more places if I spend a little more time on it. I realize Norm is an official school icon and we have had trouble getting cooperation in this area from the school, but if we have a guy wearing a Norm mask, or all shots that arnt head on but have a person wearing a hat like Normās, or have a guy that looks like Norm wearing the same hat, then we should be able to okay.
Another idea I had was to have a āWhereās Norm?ā calender. It would be similar to āWhereās Waldoā and have Norm in various locations during a time where it would be crowded. For January and the new year, we could have a scene in downtown right at midnight with everyone going crazy. During bball season we could have a scene in Halton after we win a big game and storm the court. July can have him at a 4th of July celebration. We could have one during the academic year of the quad with the Belk tower in the center and students hanging out or heading to class. Peacher Gary could be on the stump to add to the reason why its so crowded and give something people can relate to and maybe add an extra person to find for that scene. Many students could be wearing Niner Nation shirts, regular charlotte shirts, and have other school items in the pictures. Again, only 12 months so Iām sure I can think of more ideas. I would love to animate it or work with someone or let someone else do it if they are a talented artist. I am good, but I donāt know if I am good enough. I also donāt know if this would be plagarism of the āWhereās Waldoā books but I wouldnāt think so.
These are just 2 ideas, but I am sure we can think of more if these arenāt popular. What we could do to make the calender more desireable is to get local businesses to give us coupons to place on the bottom of the calender like the Chick-fil-a calender. We can also mark dates like the schoolās birthday and sporting event days. Lemme know what you guys think. If we atleast like the calender idea, I am sure there is something we can put on it for pictures.
I like the idea. Are you thinking fund raising for the football initiative or something else? I think my only question is what kind of legal clearance do we or would we need from the school?
Another suggestion is, well since the Alumni would probably be the biggest clients (Im assuming right) I would suggest something like pictures from games, from jubilant students going nuts when Leemire is on fire. pics of the arena, and of course pics of norm. a couple campus shots.
I think for Alumni who cant make it to games or live far enough away that they dont make it to campus often, it would be something they would enjoy more, and possibly buy again.
Also, Alumni who miss the days of going to thursday night games, or strolling through the campus etc would enjoy it more.
Of course this is all based on the majority buyers being Alumni. If it is students, maybe Norm posing with hooters girls or somethingā¦

Yeah, because all Charlotte students are guys, right?

For the football initiative. The legal issues are deffinetly the biggest issue but I just canāt see why there would be any for some of the stuff. There is no way it can be illegal to have pictures of parts of campus on there. There probably would be problems using Norm. We would probably need to ask someone just to be safe.
It is true that it would probably need to be more adult than the āwhereās normā idea. I like that idea the best, but I realize that given the age of most of our market, they might want something more grown up. Game pictures would be sweet but those might be very hard to get.
Do you think there is a legal issue with using pictures in something we will sell? Maybe the U will want loyalties or something? (I hope not, its for the U afterall)
49er, I think the wheres norm idea is very adult. My point was more along the lines of people who dont see the campus often etc. I didnt mean to make you believe I was shooting your idea down, because I wasnt!~
Where is the money collected going to be spent? Or will it all be donated to the school?
Football initiative.
I was going to say, I wish we could just get the guy who wears the Norm suit to work with us. If we could find a way to get him to work with us, we would be golden.
I understand that it will all go to the football initiative. But how? Are you going to give the money to the school? Will it be spent on alumni mailings? Before collecting any money, these questions need to be answered.

Sweet cause Iām big into media arts stuff and I would love to do something like this. The Whereās Norm idea just seems the most fun and legal.
I donāt think the U can want royalties for using its buildings in the pics. I mean would we have to pay royalties to Charlotte if we used a pic of DT? Iām pretty sure if it is outside then it is fair game for photography. Thats why its legal to stock the stars and put them in tabloids and not pay them a cent.

OH! I think we should put all the money in the fund we talked about at the meeting. The same place the money from the t-shirt sale was going to go. Do y'all think it should go elsewhere?

I talked to the Athletic Foundation and they said that the football account exists, so money can go there. Every donation to the Foundation just needs a note saying āI want X amount of my donation to go to the establishment of a football team.ā See my post on the āIf you want footballā¦ā thread.
I think some of it will need to be spent on PR efforts, such as alumni mailings, that will increase the awareness and contributions on the part of alums that live in, say, Oregon or Rhode Island. They are probably less likely to know what is going on here, but might be willing to give money. The school and the Athletic Foundation are not actively soliciting funds for this cause, so someone needs to. Thatās where we come in. But, what % goes where? Can we really raise enough money to properly publicize the initiative?
that it should go towards say, funding the website, signs (banners to advertise at bball games) and other promotional type activities.
But a good portion of it should go to the fund aswell I would think.
Wow, theres an account in the AD for football? They really care!
We wouldnt need too much money to start promotional stuff. Making signs for games, (banners) would help us get in touch with local alumni. Printing off mailing, or buying a spot in the alumni newsletter shouldnt be too much.
I dont know though, I dont know how much all this stuff costs

They donāt care. One person gave money specifically for it, so they HAD to start the account.
I think making signs & banners for basketball games might take away from the basketball team. I think ads in the sports section on the day after basketball games or on Saturdays during football season would be a good idea.
Im sorry. I ment like, the banner spots. Like where the other companies advertise.
I think one banner with the website on it would be ok with the basketball team. Aslong as we arenāt in your face with it why would they have a problem with it? The crowd at Niner basketball games represent the biggest fans we have at this point and we need to make sure they are all on board.
As for the fund for football, is it really hands off? I mean does the AD have the ability to leverage those funds or the interest it gains for other things? I really liked the endowment idea.
